If she wanted their approval, she'd do everything they asked of her, only to fall short. She did the opposite of what they wanted. Lorelai knows how to win their approval--have the appropriate husband, country club membership, friends, job, etc. Everything she has chosen, she has chosen for herself. She wants them to *accept* the choices that she's made and realize that, yes, she's OK.
Since we have yet to watch how this unfolds, nobody can really say. I will say though, that the marriage doesn't work on CHRIS' end, not Lorelai's, from what we have seen and heard thus far. I do believe she is happy. I haven't really seen evidence otherwise, except for she wanted him at the hospital. Again, if she was miserable, why would she even want Chris there?
The times I remember were mostly last episode where she looked longingly at the Rory/Logan relationship and how Logan dropped everything to be there for her. She was missing Chris, and that's what made her unhappy. Or at least that's how I took it.
She was hiding the ring to avoid hurting Luke when he was already worried about April, not because she was unhappy! She would have refused Emily's wedding party even if she had eloped with Luke and the awkwardness outside the store wasn't because she was unhappy with Chris...it was simply awkward. | this is how it seems to me too........ |
