For some reason, him paying solicitations to the townies does not please me. Rory doesn't need their approval, like Lorelai appears to.
I think it sounds pretty cool. It's not like the townies are just some random weirdos. Rory grew up with them and SH is her hometown. I think it's sweet that she'll be introducing Logan to her "other" family (the townies knew Rory far longer than E/R did). They treated Chris like crap because he's a freakin loser, but Logan isn't. I'm sure he'll charm the pants off them and they'll fall in love with him just like Lorelai and Emily did. I'm glad Rory's remembering her roots and feels comfortable merging them with her new life.

What is wrong with Luke AND Sookie paying Richard a visit?

Who was the guy at the hospital when he was not needed and just went to support his friend?

...and please don't cut of my quote mid sentience, it total gives the wrong impression as to what I was saying.

Rory's called the bridge for a reason, she's why they all make an attempt to get along. Take her out of the picture, what incentive does Lorelai have to continue contact? It's not like she really likes her parents. She holds them in quite a bit of contempt.
But even with Lorelai history a lot has changed and maybe a pregnant Lorelai will be different this time? Plus this is TV so DSR can hove them do anything and if that includes E&R having dinners at the CS in S8 with Luke then I'm all for that!

AggieShan08 from TWOP, who went on the WB tours last week and expanded and clarified some of the information to me. Shan said I could post what she said here so we can make more sense of the spoilers for 16 and 17. Some of these might have been in some of the tour reports that she and I missed seeing, and I'm sorry if any of this was already clarified.

-In ep. 16, in the diner, Zach asks Luke to dinner, and later on there’s a scene in the diner with Zach asking Luke a lot of “questions.”

-In ep. 16, when Lorelai’s preparing for the shower at the CS, Sooie’s there, but not being helpful because she’s looking at pictures in an album. There’s a photo of Lane and Rory when they were about 8 listed as a prop. Lane’s dressed as a dragon, Rory as Charlotte Bronte. It would make sense for the picture of Lane/Rory to be part of what Sookie’s looking at. Paul Anka’s also in the CS.

-There is a scene of Rory in NYC in ep. 16. (Which probably could have been inferred because of the interview.)

-In ep. 16, a lot of people wheel Lane to Patty’s, including, but not limited to, Lorelai, Zach, Mrs. Kim, and Rory. The baby shower is a lot of the second part of the episode.

-Towards the end of ep. 16, Zach is in the diner and he gets a call about Lane going into labor.

-In ep. 17, Lane and Zach, together, ask Luke to be the godfather. The three of them are in Lane’s apartment when they ask.

-The girls reminisce about Younger Rory and Lorelai, and Mia and Leonard (like the name in the sides list for ep. 17), not ‘Howard.’

She also gave me the links to a few pictures at her PB:

Thanks for bringing that over Katie, and thanks to Aggie for sharing.

Could we possibly get another scene of GodDaddy!Luke holding the twins?

I just heard ovaries explode across North America, ciaobella.

I am curious why reason they pick Luke. I mean, I can think of some, but other reasons they wouldn't. (1. Brian!) I am most curious as to what the show goes with.

I don't think it would be wrong if Luke paid a visit to Richard. And I'm sure Luke would do it if asked.

But the truth is that Emily didn't take well Luke's presence in the hospital. So, except if something big between LL happens in 7.14-7.16, I don't think Emily would allow Luke to visit or take care of her husband while she's in a road trip (7.17).

Yeah well, it will probably be the only time we see Luke holding twins. So we better record it .

Thank you,

My reasoning for Luke being there might be (from Richards POV) a thank you for the help with the car and nothing more, that sounds like Richard to me.

As for Sookie, well if she is supplying the food I can see her coming over. Also think of the comedy if Emily starts ordering Sookie around like a maid LOL

i did just think of one thing about kayak's, mostly they are one person, so maybe that's the referance, Lorelai "paddling her own canoe" , i.e. being in control of her own life, and being single, and strong, as in "I am woman, hear me roar, except, she's a kayak, a one person thingee.

She didn't even introduce Max to Emily till after Emily had reacted badly to finding out she was getting married. She pointedly kept her parents from knowing about her relationship with Jason. She didn't want them to know about her dating Luke, and didn't want to even have him remeet them. While keeping the engagement from them seems natural, due to the rift. She also didn't bother to even tell them when the wedding was going to be, nor even if they would be invited, till Emily asked.

Unlike Rory who freely told Emily & Richard about Dean, Jess, Dean again & Logan.

Lorelai might want their approval, but on her terms, her timing. Not freely, as Rory's been inclined to do. And while she might want their approval, and love the bits of it she's gotten, part of the reason she hasn't gotten it very often is because she shuts them out of her life for the most part, and that hasn't changed. The only reason it's different with Chris is Emily & Richard have their own relationship with him.

Yup. I think this is very likely. I mentioned pretty much that same thing in the last thread. Maybe a drunken metaphor with Emily or maybe just a random Lorelai rant. But this is how I think it's going to play out. The start of Lorelai getting back to a place where she's ok even without her "package."

Emily has been criticising Lorelai since she was a child, and Richard was never the father the little girl craved. I'm not saying they were malicious in their parenting, but they obviously did not provide Lorelai with confidence, self-esteem and support even before she left home at sixteen. If Lorelai shut them out it was in response to her not feeling loved and accepted by them. They started the cycle and Lorelai continued it. Hopefully it will end and we are seeing some signs of that.

And if Rory is more loving and open than her mother, it's because Lorelai raised her in a much more loving and encouraging manner.

Ciaobella, I know why she cut them out of her life. I'm not saying either side was right or either side was wrong. I was responding to someone that thinks she's going to have a more open relationship with them in the future.

At this point, I don't see it. As of last season she was still trying to prevent them from knowing much about her life. That's a fact. While I hope it will improve, I don't expect miracles. And I don't expect her to necessairly include them in her life openly in the future. Not as things currently stand. Perhaps they will be different after the scotch & roadtrip, but we'll have wait and see.

Like you said, as Lorelai herself has said, Rory has a very different relationship with Emily & Richard. It's not full of decades of hurt & disappointment on both sides.
