As a mom with 3 kids, I would never allow my child to travel so far away without me being there for support. I remember sending my oldest to kindergarten for the first time. I felt like I had lost an arm. Can you imagine sending a little girl away for months like that? I'm sorry, but I think Chris really showed how little he thinks about Gigi in that scene. He does it again later when he talks to Lorelai about having a baby...she had to set him straight and tell him that Rory didn't turn out great by accident, it took a lot of work. But he wouldn't know anything about that.

No, no, no. Nanny's aren't allowed. Single parents aren't allowed to have any help at all while they're working. It means they're passing their parental duties off on someone else all the time. I'm certain that Lorelai never had any help at all.

Lorelai was a 100% hands on parent. There is a difference between having help and pawning off your child so you can go and play.

We haven't really seen Chris's parenting onscreen. It's implied, to me, that he's pretty hands on.

Of course single parents should have help. That's a given.

But Chris sending Gigi with her nanny to Paris to see her mom who she hadn't seen for a long time and didnt't know? And I bet the nanny didn't know Sherry.

The parent - Chris - should have taken her there. That was a huge experience for Gigi.
A nanny takes care of a child when the parent is maybe working but not going across to world with the child to visit the child's mom who neither the nanny or the child knows.

At least I thinks so.

I still say the spoilers are right: Lorelai ends it and not because of her feelings for Luke. She ends it because Chris can't be the standup kind of man she needs.

As a mom with 3 kids ALSO, I don't see anything wrong with what Chris was intending. The Nanny was EXCITED to go to Paris, and Gigi was accustomed to having her around.

Also, just because people here SAY that Chris wanted Gigi out of the way to be alone with Lorelai, doesn't mean that's what really happened at all. In fact, it wasn't even remotely written that way.

I'll have to remind my friends of that next time they hire a babysitter when they want to go out to dinner and a movie. I'm sorry, If you hire a sitter, I can't associate with you anymore. You're being a very bad parent. I'll see you around when your kid goes off to college.

That being said, Lorelai *had* to have had help. She couldn't have hauled around a toddler while she was working at the Inn, and I assume she never, ever went out without Rory.

I didn't see either Lorelai walking out that door or Chris begging Lorelai to stay and insisting how much he loves her.

Well, we do know from season 5 (I think) that Gigi was out of control because Chris was not disciplining her at all. Perhaps he got better at it (off camera as you say) after Lorelai helped him. He's in way over his head IMO.

I don't understand why Chris is still working. He said back in season 2 that he didn't want to miss anything with his second child. I know if I had a young child and came into a lot of money, I'd rather spend my time with my kid, being a parent. Maybe if he owned his own business that he loved like Lorelai does, I could understand, but that doesn't seem like the case with Chris.

I was also thinking about his OTT jealous reaction to Luke the past few eps and it reminded me that a few episodes ago he was accusing(out of nowhere) Lorelai of being jealous of Sherry. I had forgotten about that weird reaction.

Do you have a nanny? Know what nanny's are like? They're qualified care givers that this particular child happened to be familiar with. He wasn't sending her off with a stranger. He was sending her TO a stranger, which was wrong. But the nanny was a qualified and appropriate person to accompany Gigi on this trip.

In s6 he's going through the process to get Gigi into a kindergarten/nursery school, not a nanny. He's shown multiple times alone with her, as well. And being the central diciplainarian and person responsible for her. While he's not the best father on the planet, he's not a horrible one, to Gigi.

(a) the dicipline problems were in S6. But (b) both in S5, being in over his head generally, and in S6, dicipline problems, they were shown on screen to have taken care of the problem. S5, ESH when they're together (alone) at the Dragonfly and Chris has a handle on things. In s6 a couple of episodes after BR when Gigi isn't a freak any longer in a telephone conversation.

Well, again, he WAS in over his head. But he was TRYING the best he knew how. He was trying to compensate by Gigi not having her mother around by spoiling her. Many, many parents do that after a divorce or death of a parent. It's natural to want to ease the hurt. I'm not saying it's right, but he's not the only one to have ever done that.

Again, complain about how he was never there for Rory, I will agree with you. However, we have been shown time and again, he is trying to make up for that mistake with Gigi.

I think Chris is really good to Gigi, as pointed out, we haven't really seen so much of Chris parenting skills. In fact, in 7.11, I thought he was really sweet with both Rory and Gigi.

And having a nanny, babysitter or help isn't wrong at all.

To me, the only thing wrong he did was not to think about how enourmous it would be for Gigi to see Sherry and that he didn't plan on taking Gigi himself to go and visit Sherry. It was first after Lorelai talked to him and explained how huge it was for Gigi to go there - then he decided to go with Gigi himself.

Well, there was a certain "casualness" with the way Chris acted about sending his wee little daughter 3000 miles away, and as new millionaire, it's not like he couldn't take the time to go with her. So, as he is now an invested and caring father, why wouldn't he want to accompany his little daughter on this trip, and help ease the transition?
