Oh yeah that Lorelai/Emily/Scotch scene ... I am thinking Emily will start off with some I dunno more classic Emily response, but somehow she cannot continue with that 'approach' and will toss in something that could be seen as funny. The scotch helps out and Lorelai will start to show being not very able to keep herself from laughing ... Emily looks at her and will show a grin also and they both end up laughing and making funny remarks ... and I dunno, that will be sort of a tensionbreaker and they will talk easier, both not so much in their roles that normally lead to attack/defend stuff ...

And all that happened I am sure leads to Emily seeing more how much Lorelai really cares, not just about her dad, but also about Emily. I am sure she will be there for her mom in the hospital. I am sure her helping out with Richard business so Emily can take care of some things and all will be very appreciated. Emily might let go for a bit and even lean on her daughter for some support. But most of all I can imagine Emily loving the fact that her daughter is there at a time where I am sure Emily needs her and can use some unwinding and well I can imagine Lorelai needs some too. And she knows Chris wasn't at the hospital and Chris wasn't there at the FND ... and Emily already had made that speech about marriage and all. And Emily might feel that Chris is the one who apparantly is (also) not committed. But I think her line of thought on that Scotch night will mostly be, like Elduccia said, :"oh to hell with this" ... Who cares really? Richard is back home and I have my daughter here to spend some time with during a time where that is much needed and appreciated ... I can imagine that in the end that really is all that matters to Emily ...

I think Emily will "force" him to slow down, I hope we even get a scene between them arguing about it. In the end Richard probably will keep his job as teacher at Yale, but won't work at Driscoll anymore. So, he still can work - it was quiet obvious in RISH that he needs to to something, if he won't die of boredom and end up annoying Emily to death, he's a picture perfect workaholic - but it's not as stressy as jetting around the world (talking about that - how is he able to do business trips anymore, if he teaches at Yale? TA's? ), making contracts and stuff.

I think that the Emily's problem toward Luke was not only about the social class.
She has never liked anyone except Christopher, and not even him, she just wanted Lorelai to be with the father of her child, because it's a deep problem that has never gone the way she hoped it when Lorelai was 16.
She didn't seem to like Max, , neither Jason and Luke obviously also because of the class issue.

Now that Lorelai has finally tried being in a real relationship with Christopher and proved herself and her mother that they're not meant to be at all, that she doesn't really love him, maybe it will be easier for Emily to accept her, accept Luke and everything that comes around.

Lorelai has always refused to accept her family's advice, and marrying Christopher for Emily was just Lorelai being stubborn, but now they can move forward, because maybe Emily will understand that Lorelai's choices are not only made to disappoint her, maybe she really had a point in doing what she did.

Oh, I think Emily's disdain for Luke had very much to do with social class - she referred to him in such a derogatory way too many times for that not to have been a immense part of the reason for her dislike of him. Yes, she wanted Lorelai with Chris, but over the years before Lorelai became involved with Luke, Emily even set Lorelai up on a date, was pleased about her dating Payton - both from her social world.

I think at the end of season 6, E/R did at long last accept the fact that Lorelai was going to be marry Luke and so they were making the best of it - I never thought either of them really came to accept Luke in the way of respecting him as a person and acknowledging that he was a good man.

I would like to hear Emily say that life is too short to be with someone who isn't right for her (Chris) and not berate her for the marriage failing. Emily just nearly lost her husband, she may be more aware of how important it is to be with that "one person"....at least that is what I hope comes out of the Emily/Lorelai scene.

All those arguments with Emily about food and alcohol and work could be more stressful than all three combined with an extra cigar thrown in as well. I wonder if they'll joke about how her watching his every move and fretting over him (all out of love, of course), is causing more harm than good.

I don't agree with the podcast people. It didn't feel like the worst episode this season to me. And IMO there were definitely ASPesque sounds to it: the teaser, Sookie & Lorelai, Paris & Rory.
I thought it to be one of the better written eps of the season, aside from a couple of scenes that didn't quite fit. The TV guide people, are, as usual, clueless.

I re-wachted 4.14 - The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais this week and realized that if indeed Logan's venture fails there is some interesting scenery for Logan/Richard and also Logan/Richard/Lorelai bonding in future episodes.

This the episode where Lorelai asks Luke US$ 30.000 for the DFI and Trix throws in Richard's face that his first business failed:

Quote:
TRIX: How is the money holding up?
LORELAI: Excuse me?
TRIX: The money. I was somewhat aware of your financial situation before you took this on. How much do you have left?
LORELAI: Plenty. Enough to finish.
TRIX: You're in trouble.
LORELAI: No.
TRIX: You are hemorrhaging money. I see it in your eyes. It must be costing a fortune to get a contractor to stick to a projected completion date. And you're not working now. Unless your partner is a Rockefeller, you are in serious financial trouble.
EMILY: Mom, I don't think this is the best time to discuss this.
TRIX: Well, if we were eating, we would have something else to do, but since we're not... [to Richard] How could you let this happen?
RICHARD: How could I let this happen?
TRIX: She is your daughter. It is your responsibility to know when she is in deep financial trouble.
LORELAI: I'm not in deep financial trouble.
RICHARD: Trix, Lorelai is a grown woman.
TRIX: Ridiculous. This is a family. It is a family's responsibility to make sure that this doesn't happen. We have a reputation to uphold. How would it look if a Gilmore goes out into the business world and fails?
EMILY: I hardly think she's failing, Mom.
TRIX: Well, she looks like she's failing to me. [Lorelai chuckles nervously. Trix turns to Richard.] And I am surprised at you. After all, I helped you out when you had financial problems.
RICHARD: Trix!
TRIX: You made that terrible investment in Dubliners Paper Corporation when you were first married. I told you not to, but you wouldn't listen, and of course, I had to step in and bail you out.
RICHARD: Now, hold on here, Trix.
TRIX: You would have lost this house if it weren't for me.
RICHARD: That is not true.
TRIX: It is not true that you pigheadedly lost that money?
RICHARD: I was twenty-seven years old. That is the time to take risks.
TRIX: Well, when you have my money to bail you out, taking risks is not much of a problem, is it?
RICHARD: [angry] You're making me sound like an incompetent child.
TRIX: Oh, please.
RICHARD: [angry] I have built two extremely successful businesses, Mother, and both of them without your help. [Emily smiles brightly] And I do not appreciate you now, many years later, throwing in my face the fact that you once helped me out financially!
TRIX: Do not raise your voice to me.
RICHARD: I will raise my voice if the situation warrants it!
[The maid enters with salad plates.]
EMILY: Oh, no, not now. [to Richard] You paid that money back in two months, also.
RICHARD: That's right, two months. How deep in financial ruin could I have been to get that money back to you in two months?
TRIX: I'm leaving this table.
RICHARD: Let me help you with your chair.

And that was the last exchange between Richard and his mother, which lead to him feeling very regretful and guilty when she died - another great episode in general (The Reigning Lorelai) with a wonderful scene between him and Lorelai - mock turtle soup (and a few excellent Lorelai/Emily ones, as well). Classic!

Back then ASP was a master at weaving in humor into otherwise sad situations. One of my fave scenes of Lorelai was when she went to buy underwear for her grandmother - it was so touching but also had a whiff of humor in it. The balance was perfect.

That, for me, is what was missing this past week. I would have loved some wit in the custody hearing, a little something even in the L/L fight or in something Luke said to Lorelai when he called her to say he won, something in the Rory/Lucy scene. It was all just so mediocre and unimaginative. Oh well.

Sometimes I personally felt ASP could take the humor a bit too far (Lorelai and Sookie at Fran's funeral), but most often it was just right, it was a perfect blend.

Very short tour report:
They were shooting at Lane's (again), and there were blue balloons in Lorelai's house.

That was the only thing we really got this time. But we had fun, and we giggled a lot.

Okay, and whatever the podcast people say about Because I Said So (I just read that part of the transcript, well done 2ggobsessed) IT IS NOT TRUE. sorry for yelling.
But seriously, Lauren is in more than 10 minutes, she has one of the funniest lines of the whole movie (and it is a really funny one), the acting is great (Lauren's amazing, of course) and .. yes the dog is cute.
