Right now, Luke's the past. Just like Chris was in S5. Just like in WBB, she still loved Chris, but that love wasn't *active*. She loves Luke still, but it's latent, not *active* she's concentrating on her love for Chris.
I believe that Lorelai loved Christopher and during her marriage with him her love for him deepened. It’s difficult for a woman to be in an intimate and committed relationship with a man and not bond emotionally with him.

Is the love that she feels for Christopher comparable with what she feels for Luke? I don’t think so. Thinking that Luke no longer loved her, she committed herself to Christopher and really tried to make her marriage work. She was happy and content with her marriage and Christopher as long as she didn’t allow herself to question her feelings for Luke. She tried to maintain some distance between herself and Luke and seemed awkward around him the few times they met. Maintaining her distance made it possible for her to continue denying her feelings for him.

In the kitchen scene with Christopher, I saw a woman who was torn between the fear of losing something she desperately wanted to work (her marriage) and knowing that Christopher was correct in what he was saying. Lorelai’s desperation for her marriage to work stemmed from her not wanting to: fail at another relationship, disappoint her parents and be old and alone. I think this conflict caused her not to push harder to stop Christopher from leaving.

Looking at Loreali’s facial expression and body language when Christopher confronted her about her feeling for Luke, she didn’t look him in the eyes and shifted around a bit. At the point when Christopher told her that he knew she was not done with Luke, she briefly looked away from him. When he told her that Luke was the reason she didn’t want to have a baby with him, she looked away again. When she quickly reiterated after him that she was not in love with Luke, she blinked.

Christopher witnessed her reactions and discomfort and instantly knew that she was lying. She also knew that what Christopher said was true but she couldn’t admit it to him because of the damage that it would cause to her marriage. Even though she tried to convince him that he was wrong, she didn’t act like she believed it herself (IMO) and so he didn’t believe her.

When Christopher walked out on her, she didn’t run after him pleading for him to stay. She halfhearted called his name after he closed the door and couldn’t hear her. She remained standing in the kitchen and let him go. She didn’t break down and cry when he left, she only looked sad. The next morning, she was still sad and obviously missed him but she was not devastated to the point that she was bedridden. I think part of her eagerness to answer the phone and disappointment when it wasn’t Christopher was that she was worried about his safety knowing how upset he was when he walked out of the house the night before.

Sure Lorelai loves Christopher and sure she’s upset and sad that he left but deep down inside she also knows that what she feels for him is not enough to sustain their marriage for the rest of their lives.

My morning tour:

I went on a tour with ingw (who went on the Deluxe tour last Monday) this morning. Our tourguide wasn’t that great, though he did take us to the Mansion again. Where the driveway/front lawn/yard of the Mansion is supposed to be, they’re setting up a motel room. Tour guide didn’t know for what or for who.
They were shooting a scene in (and I think around) Liz and TJ’s garage. It has Luke in it; what we saw: Luke walks from the garage, crosses the street and jumps into his car, closes the door. End scene.
Luke is wearing jeans, his green jacket and the black baseball cap (backwards, of course).
It’s still winter in Connecticut, there aren’t any leaves on the trees yet. (I know that’s not what the other tourguide said, but this fits way better).
They have been shooting at the diner yesterday, though Lauren wasn’t in that scene.

This is just a quick overview thingy. I’ll try to make it more together and complete later.

Thanks for all that. I'm very curious about the motel room. And about what's up with Luke/TJ, but I'm always excited for a good Luke/TJ/Liz SL.

You have another tour on Friday still, right? You're so lucky. Try to beg and beg to figure out if LG's filmed in the diner at all yet some more. It's always worth the shot.

Will do that. I've asked every tourguide I had so far. They all either didn't know, or didn't want to say. The one from Monday just said 'not that I know of'.

She thought they were finally getting their "chance" and then he finds out Sherry's pregnant. From LGCD, 3.01, & HL, 3.02, to TtDE, 3.06, all the way to DEAR, 3.13. Lorelai's romantic storyline all through most of S3 is about her regrets over the loss of her chance with Chris. You don't hang onto the hope for a chance and then so fully jump at it that you're that worked over without deeply loving someone.

To talk about how Lorelai feels about Chris you can't just talk about S5 forward, it's the entire canon of the show. She loves both men a great deal. And the only reason she could move on so quickly with Chris, after Luke, is because of how much she's always loved him, no matter if it's something she's going to run off and give into at that moment.
No, that's just my point. She didn't know how deeply she could love someone until she began her relationship with Luke. Sure, there were regrets in season 3 regarding Christopher, but that goes along with the he-gives-her-the-whole-package part of their love. It's more important to look at how she viewed Christopher after she began a relationship with Luke -- because if she was able to put Christopher behind her when she was with Luke, which she was, what else does it matter?

She flew into this new marraige because, yes, there is a love between CL and always has been, but I don't think it's something she would have ever substantially wondered about had she and Luke not split up. I truly believe that she believed Luke was the one -- and when it didn't work out, she went back to the person who, pre-Luke, she thought might be able to be that one. But he's not.

ETA: Thanks Eva for all the info and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

My afternoon tour:

Ingw and I decided to stick around, I called Copperboom and then we went on another tour with the three of us.
This time we went to Stars Hollow almost immediately, though we couldn’t get that far, because they were shooting at Lane’s appartment.
The newsstand was all dressed up (which it was on Monday, but I didn’t know if that was normal or not, Copperboom pointed it out); Stars Hollow High School had flags (now that was weird).
Uhm, what else… the motel room was further up now, all the walls were standing, one has a tiny window.

There’s more, I think, but my head is very ‘monkey, monkey, underpants’ right now.

Eva, thanks for the second tour report! They're putting a lot into this episode, huh? From the three tours: Rory/Lorelai in SH, Diner scenes, CS filming, Lane's having scenes, Liz/TJ/Luke. And this is ep. 16, right?

Yes, this is episode 16. I got that confirmed. BUT we were not so sure about Lorelai's house, because ingw had seen that on Monday, and they said it was a 'hot set', but today it looked exactly the same. Gigi's stroller was still there, the magazines were still on the coffee table, Wolf Girl was still on the chair and the flatscreen was still on the wall.

Flatscreens are good. They are even better when they have the japanese name on a box that should have been PANASONIC. If I remember my Japanese Rebranding to avoid issues with American consumers after WWII story right.

That aside, thanks LG, nice info. Always nice to see Liz and TJ. Luke's back-up is very important to me. Also, caf, why do we have to wait and see? Unless you are really intending to be condescending, then we should heed your words in fear of being eaten by a large dat named JEFFERSON. IF you are not being condescending. Well, half of this thread, does not share your view of Chris. We do not see him as an immature. Sure, he's not fancy ciaobella gourmet pizza (REAL COMPANY!), but he has never been worthy of many of you gals level of hated for him. Yes, that last sentence, rolls of the tongue. Nevertheless, there is no wait and see, because some of us accept Lorelai loves two men to varying degrees on her own whacky scale of perpetual motion. It's life. Life is messy. The characters on this show have messy lives. There you go.

One last thing; Rory was not BLAH about her vacation. She was simply underselling it to a woman that would not exactly be overjoyed with theatrics and really big ADJECTIVE usage. If she was underselling it. There are these two stoners that I need to call. Who will definitely set her straight...snooch to the her booch.

If you can't be with the one you love...love the one you're with

Great post Caf and Peachypeep.

Christopher = Rebound Guy. Transference of feelings to try and get over Luke. She did marry him and she did try and make it work believing all the while there was no hope for her and Luke to reconcile.
She loved Christopher but she wasn't ever "in" love with him. She loved him because he gave her Rory. She was familiar with him and it was easy to play house with him. But that is all it was, when the cold reality of life comes into play Christopher is nowhere to be found.

I think that is true in a lot of ways. It is more her fear of being alone and having another failed relationship that seems to bother her more than Christopher leaving. When she woke up and he wasn't there she gave more of a look of resignation than anything else.

That song was written about drug use. Like, if you cant get some heroine. Be happy you have some coke. Stephen Stills is deep, man. DEEP (the proceding was payed for by DARE. Futhermore, DARE does not lay any claim to the factual nature of the previous statements. So say our lawyer...who are really smart smart people.)
