Hrd to feel sorry for Christopher when he lept on her when she was vulnerable, gave her no space or time to recover, did over the top things like the drive in movie to make him look like the guy who would dote on only her (unlike bad Luke who was shocked and rattled re April) and was welcomed into the family with widely open arms by R&E. Everyone, including Rory to some degree by saying very little, conspired to ensure this disaster. No one recovers from a broken engagement in a couple of months sufficiently to make a decision about marriage to someone else. They all should have known better. I suspect as usual Lorelia will be left carrying the bag when realistically, since she was in a state of grief, she should be given a little leeway and Chris, R&E, and Rory should be asked what the heck they were thinking. Her relationmship with Luke was no secret, Emily saw plenty of what Lorelai was going through right before the break up, Chris knew that when he last tried to interfere between L and L, Lorelai didn't speak to him again for months, none of them helped her over the break up, but Chris was sure ready to exploite it.

This is what's been killing me ever since we found out he 'knew he was her number two'. Didn't he think about how it would affect Gigi?

For all that I'm so appalled by his treatment of Rory over so many years, for all that I would have needed a huge Christopher/Rory father/daughter arc before I could even begin to bear his face on my screen, for all that I still think - moving to the adult-to-adult arena - that his actions in Partings were the lowest of the low, regardless of whatever Lorelai said or did, as it happened on the very night she broke her engagement....

For all that, perhaps the writers got to me a little. I still haven't watched most of 7.07. Rory will probably have grandchildren before I get to that. But, somehow, I lapsed into thinking that this man wasn't being a total jerk with his second kid. Maybe because circumstances forced him, since he was neglectful of Gigi, too, until Sherry literally left him holding the baby.

Didn't mean to resurrect those old trees, I'm just saying, that as much as I've hated his selfishness and parental neglect, I still found a glimmer there - if not for Rory or Lorelai, at least without a lot more admission and reflection than I think he's capable of, at least that, moving on and being older, to give that new little girl a chance.

Same goes for Rory. It's going to be season 2 finale + aftermath all over again.
From whence sprund my undying hatred of his character. Well, technically, a few eps into season 3 - when it appeared he hadn't told Rory himself, and most of all, when we found out he had 'promised' her. He was a grown man and father, in his 30s, when he did that; he hadn't been 16 for very many years.

Lorelai has to take the blame as well since she agreed willing to it but Chris at least had a clear head when he went into that relationship. Lorelai was confused, hurt and living in denial and he just used that to get to her and swept her off her feet. He should have known that once she comes back to her senses, lets her feelings get to her or gets confronted by the past and starts to think about it, it would bring trouble and most likely a "boy did we make a mistake or what" moment.

Great post, ckomodo! I especially like this part, because it is one of the biggest holes in this stupid story that no one could bring themselves to say: are you sure you want to do this now? Like Luke said to Lorelai when she proposed to him.

Sure, you can feel Chris exploited Lorelai ... I just disagree. Lorelai came across a little too eager for me to be the one to be exploited here. Again she was the one calling Chris after the IT-talk, she was the one inviting him in, she went with him to Paris, she told him she loved him, how great it was that he got her and how she did NOT want this to end. She did not listen to Rory, she did not listen to Sookie, she did not stand still for one Frakking second after her classic dump of Luke. It was all about Lorelais need to be taken away and well Chris for a long time wanting to do exactly that, sure, he went for it. I could agree with someone saying they exploited eachother ... but naaahhh I do not feel Chris exploited Lorelai ...

To say he had a clear head and therefor he was more wrong ... I dunno. Maybe that can be said about the night in Partings. Lorelai coming to him in distress. But after that night Lorelai told him he shouldn't make something bigger out of this than it was. But later on Chris was honest, he couldn't just hang out there ... He told her how he felt. That she was IT and he would wait for her. And he LEFT, there was no pressure, he LEFT. And there we go, Lorelai picked up that phone ... and she went on dates and asked him in ... she knew what he wanted and still she called him and yep was very happy to go along with this all.

So again, even though Lorelai after Partings KNEW and found out that night meant more to Chris than to her. He claimed it was so right, while she was saying to Rory how this was a mistake. But still after his little speech and after Lorelai hearing Luke say: Let's not fight this anymore ... etc. After that she was the one I feel who took the initiative by making that call!

ETA Thanks for those spoilers. I was especially happy about the Rory call being about a job at the NYT

Hmm, speaking of leaping on someone when they are vulnerable. How long is it timewise between 7.13 and 7.14?

A couple of days. True true, I don't know what I am thinking about that TA right now

Quote:
Two days after his by-pass surgery, Richard (Edward Herrmann) is on the road to recovery, and Rory (Alexis Bledel) returns to Yale, where she finds that Richard's economics class is now being taught by an attractive young professor, Tucker Culbertson (guest star Cameron Bender), who flusters Rory with his charm.

Coming in last minute, after catching up.

Thanks to everyone and all for the abundance of new info. Thanks for keeping the first posts updated, Caf.

Glad to hear from you in LA, lorelaisgirl. Hope you continue to have a wonderful time.

I like all the titles, but choose the smarmy triangle one.
Everyone involved willing, if there is a season eight after all, I fear those triangles will shape the new season as well. What happened to two plain dots connected by a straight line? Geometry anyone?

Will we (and Luke) know the outcome of the custody hearing tonight?
