I think though, a big part of the 'being in love' equation is the willingness to commit to the other person, which is something she's been unable to do with Chris. She was ready to do that with Luke, but felt he wasn't willing to commit to her. There were other issues, but that's one difference I see.

Chris is Lorelai's first love there is no denying that like Dean/Rory, and she still loves him now just not in a forever kind of way. Just like she told Rory in CR she will always love him

If Lorelai loves Chris, I think it's more in the "I-love-that-you-gave-me-Rory"-kind of way. Not in the "I-will-love-you-forever-because-you-are-you"-kind of way.

Hopefully we will hear Lorelai say to Chriss "I never really loved you" or "I thought I could love you" or "I was never IN love with you", so this silly specs will finally end......

It wasn't a question of waiting --because she did-- it was a question of whether or not he truly loved her and wanted to marry her. And in her mind, he didn't. His reaction to her ultimatum drove that home for her, and at that moment, she didn't see the point in sticking around for someone who didn't really want to be with her the way she wanted to be with him. Whether or not this was one giant misunderstanding is yet to be addressed (not Luke loving her, I would never doubt that, but more was he ready to be married to her), I think, but my point is that it's not that Lorelai didn't love Luke enough. It's that she didn't think he loved her. Massive communication issues, I agree, but I don't doubt her love for him. Not one bit. And it doesn't compare to the puppy dog, high school sweetheart, I'll-always-be-there-for-you-and-you'll-always-be-there-for-me kind of love she feels for Chris.

Actually "its more I love you because your my old childhood friend, high school boyfriend kind of way. I mean she always talks about their past fondly. So part of her is in love with their past.

However, the show has demonstrated time and time again, that Lorelai Gilmore does not have a clue how to handle love or most personal relationships. She sucks at it. She sucks at it so much, that Amy felt that way. Dave being Amy's replacement. It's safe to state that Dave most likely feels similarily.

Again, I have no idea why anyone would want to delude themselves, that the car breakdown meant any thing. If anything, it demonstrated that Lorelai was out of her mind at that time with hurt. She was so far gone. She did not know which way was up.

While I do not deny she loves Luke in some way. I will not deny that the show has shown her to be a person so GUARDED OFF FROM ANY REAL HUMAN EMOTION, that it's almost impossible to be in a relationship with her. Since she never compromises. She never back downs. She never bends. All she does is take. She is a selfish immature woman, that needs to grow up. If not, well, what's the point of putting her back together with Luke? So they can have kids, that turn out to be a couple of *******s?

I know what Lorelai said in the car, but I think that was alot of crap. It was probably the hurt talking, and I believe she loves boths guys differently. Your first love is not always your true love, Rory's first love is Dean but her true love is Logan.
Plus Lorelai is very confused with love so I don't really trust her

I think this is exactly what the writers are trying to hit on with the divorce and the post-divorce Lorelai, and eventually, the season 7 Luke and Lorelai. I think most JJs are putting their trust in DR to show a changed Lorelai, one who is willing to admit her mistakes and compromise. Which goes back to your excellent point, Jason, about this season being very reflective. My best explanation for all the crap this season has graced us with is that DR is putting it all out there on the table, to be sorted through, examined, and worked on in the latter half of the season. That's my hope, at least...

I disagree with the kids comment. I have always beleived that Lorelai was an excellent mother and I have no doubts she'll be the same way with any future kids she might have.

I think that Lorelai don't want to have more kids. JMO of course.
