Forget his parenting skills then. I first typed that as "people", so consider Chris the person -- most people don't disappear without letting someone know where they're going to be, especially family. Sure, Rory's an adult, and she'll probably have Logan there with her, but does that mean she wouldn't appreciate a little support from her dad too? How will she feel about Chris bailing on Lorelai?

Well, Emily didn't want to speak with Richard either when she looked for the plane, but she immediately answered Lorelai's call. It seems as if it's a theme.

In any event, we're not talking about everyone someone ever knew in college. We're talking about this specific couple who, at least, some of us know who don't fast-forward through their scenes.

I was just saying that it is possible for people to change their ideas of who they would like to be with as they go. Even if they have been together for a while. And I don't fast-forward through their scenes.

If so...spec: Kitchen disaster from baking cookies. Courtesy of GG ( perhaps with assistance from Lorelai and Chris). Type of disaster will be either 1) Major food mess, which Gigi herself can cause, OR 2) Fire/burning in the oven. No doubt that the cookies will be burnt ash.

You make some valid points. I have on some occasion forgotten my cell phone at home and if anyone was trying to reach me that day, I would not have known about it until I returned home.

However, knowing that Christopher's absence from the hospital leads to Lorelai's epiphany and (possibly) results in the breakup of their relationship, leads me to conclusion that the writers are not going to use any of the logical reasons you mentioned for him not knowing about the crisis and will go the route of him knowing but choosing to ignore her calls and not go to the hospital.

But if Chris is ignoring her calls and doesn't know anything her "epiphany" could happen while she has no idea where he is. It's not illogical. This doesn't have to be Lorelai's sole reason for breaking up with him. It can easily just be a trigger for bigger realizations that don't go away once she realizes where he was.

I would prefer that Chris doesn't know for Rory's sake. I can't understand how people can be so gleeful about an action that would destroy a relationship that RORY VALUES even if we have never gotten to see it on screen. I don't see how Rory and Chris's relationship can overcome this divorce if Chris knowingly ignores the fact that her grandfather is in the hospital, seriously ill. And I don't understand how someone can claim to care about Rory and still want this to occur.

The Lorelai comment...huh? Again, I will never understand how comparing Lorelai and Luke to Rory and Logan will solve anything, ever.

All she did was state an observation of young couples today, one that I agree with. No one's saying Rory and Logan are like all the rest, but it's a valid point. And no, I don't fast-forward through their scenes.

Jason- you were grouping: "Again, I see LLs and JJs, turning Rory into a plot device. That's how I see it." But it was an observation you made, and I understand that. Just wanted to remind you that I'm not included in that.

That’s interesting then that Lorelai leaves Gigi at home alone with Christopher while she goes shopping with Rory. Now that they are one big happy family, shouldn’t Lorelai be including Gigi in their girls’ shopping spree? Wouldn’t Gigi prefer to go shopping than stay at home, unless she returns after Lorelai and Rory goes shopping.
