I want Rory (and Logan) to be a bigger part of this show, like they used to be.

Fortunately for you, you can buy peaches.

My guess is that once "The Looor and Chrisss show" is over, they will.....

I also guess that by 7.15 Lorelai is a divorced woman (if that silly marriage is legal of course.... )

Yes, I read the spoilers, but since it does not say explicitely what Rory's dialogue or thoughts are, I'm going to express skepticism and wait until she actually talks to hear her point of view.

Not saying that Lorelai's words doesn't mean anything to me, they do in their ways. But they're not good enough to convince everyone of Rory's feelings. Someone already mentioned (Sandylnn, I think), that Lorelai doesn't speak for Rory. That's the point I was trying to get across. The letter may say a lot but it may not be the bestest proof to convince all viewers.

Don't mind me. I knew it when I was writing it that I was contradicting myself. Onto a discussion where I feel I have a better grounding in my point of view.

It sounds as though, by episode 7.11, we may be able to see Rory's interpretation of her and Luke's relationship. In episode 7.12, we will see how Lorelai defiines Luke's and Rory's relationship based on the letter. (a) Maybe Rory and Lorelai both think that Luke was like a father figure. (2) Maybe both of them thought that he resembled a great family friend, not a father figure per se, but an extremely close family friend. Maybe only Lorelai thinks that Luke's like a father figure and Rory merely thinks of him as a family friend.

Or perhaps, the answer is (2), and that Lorelai DOES say in the letter that "Luke was like a father figure to Rory," in order to emphasize her letter's point better, even though she knows she's dramatizing/exaggerating it a teeny tiny bit for effect. After all, if Lorelai does not conclude that Luke was (almost) like a father figure to Rory, what would the judge be able to take from her story? Nothing more than he's a nice family friend. And it doesn't exactly have the PUNCH that you need when you're trying to convince the judge that Luke is a great FATHER so that Luke could win the (partial) custody case. IMO, the difference between being a 'father figure' and 'close family friend' is hazy in our case. I don't think Rory looks up to Luke like a father figure but I do think she thinks he's a great close family friend and an important part of her Stars Hollow family, and he matters to her a great deal. The connection is more akin to 'older male role model' from a family relation. I think that the definition of what makes a father figure is so relative, and that's why it's so hard to pin down an answer. We may all have different perceptions of what a father figure is and this is only fuelling the debate more. In my perception of what a father figure is, I'd say Luke's "ALMOST LIKE A FATHER FIGURE", at best. (Other possibilities: Like an uncle, older brother, first cousin, or stepfather). That's my take on the story, and I'm sticking to it.

There have been more than a few times on this show where Lorelai thought for sure she knew what Rory wanted or what Rory was thinking ... only to be proven wrong. In fact, it's a theme.

I have to say --just for future reference and so this doesn't come back to bite me-- I am way more of a JJ than a Sophie. But a Sophie nonetheless. I think I defend LL more because RL shippers, or certain ones, come off as very argumentative. Save Jason, who I enjoy arguing with.

ETA: I'm off to watch a movie. Hope it doesn't get too heated here...

The only actual verbalization I recall is in the Ins and Outs of Inns when Rory was pissed at Jess for getting Luke in trouble with the townies and her saying that Luke has done a lot for both her and her mom. Also after the dust up over Logan with her father and Luke, she only expressed concern about Luke -

So much on this show goes unsaid - I gave up a long time ago waiting to hear much of the important stuff - just watched for actions, behavior to appear on screen. I always thought Rory and Luke had a really sweet relationship - but never saw him as a father figure and I don't think he did either. Just a good friend.

I just don't get this argument at all - she clearly had both these men in her life in different capacities - what's the big competition all about?

We don't know that anyone is going to call Luke a father figure - I actually doubt it - just a gut feeling - because Lorelai is now married to the actual father figure and may not be inclined to use that term in the letter - But, I still doubt she sees Luke that way either.

Man - you'd think Luke was the anti-christ or something. I don't see anyone clamoring to make sure Lorelai pays back the money he invested in her renovation or her business or for Rory to return his mother's pearl necklace - because he is such a horrible horrible person after all. Sheesh.

It's perfectly normal for kids to take for granted the people in their lives who make their childhood easier. Luke fullfilled an important role for Rory who, let's face it, didn't have a father around. He was a kind and dependable male presence in her life. He doesn't have to be a "father figure" to have figured importantly in Rory's life, and she is at an age now where it would not be inappropriate for her to look back and realize that what she took for granted was actually something pretty special.

I also don't see Richard as a "father figure" but a caring and wonderful grandfather to Rory - another relationship made even more important because of Chris's neglect.

What really intrigues me is why there is so much hostility directed at Luke...

Lorelai struggles to write the letter until she and Rory run into Luke and April at the mall and Lorelai suddenly remembers how important Luke has always been in Rory’s life.
I had to look for the meaning of the verb STRUGGLE to understand the meaning of that sentence...

-To exert muscular energy, as against a material force or mass: struggled with the heavy load.
-To be strenuously engaged with a problem, task, or undertaking: struggled with his math homework.
-To make a strenuous effort; strive: struggled to be polite.
-To contend or compete: “Right and wrong … will ever continue to struggle” (Abraham Lincoln).
-To progress with difficulty: struggled through the novel.

and I was wondering WHY was Lorelai strunggled to write that? she had forgotten even her years as Luke's friend? what were Luke and her while he was "important" in Rory's life? FRIENDS, just FRIENDS, I have been thinking that we met Lorelai/Rory at the same time that Rory started her relationship with Richard, we HAVE SEEN that on TV, every week, when ROry had the biggest problem in her life (the Yale's situation) she went to Lorelai at first, When Lorelai failed to support her , she went until Richard arms... NO LUKE... RICHARD!

Lorelai suddendly remembers ... I suppose that she is the one thinking that... I bet that Rory knows nothing about that letter.. and of course other paralel story Rory is writing a letter for a friend.. exactly the same that Lorelai is doing, a letter for a man that has been her friend for a long time...
I think that letter is going to be good to re-start their friendship.. that's all. JMO of course. Maybe Chris is going to be mad but for Lorelia it is just friendship.. JMO.
