I am not asking people to change their minds but wondering when the past will stay in the freaking past...and when the bitterness will stop....but heck i guess i am talking to myself..

Rory sharing a few stories like the coffee cake and mashed potatos could lead Lorelai to this inspiration and some major embellishing. Rory does not have to verbalize "Luke was so important in my life" for Lorelai to decide that all on her own.

Where does this say that Lorelai accurately reflects Rory's feelings for Luke?

Mickey - so if Lorelai say in her eye Luke is/was the most fatherly figure in Rory's life then it doesn't matter? this is from Lorelai's POV it really doesn't matter what Rory thinks unless she has to write a letter.

I'm not saying this will or will not happen.

I can see why people thought that. I saw it clear as a bell, the first time I watched it. I remember being surprised, and a bit disbelieving, when I heard ASP say she didn't see "it" until ep 6, when DP pointed it out. Really? Because they had an unusually flirty relationship from 1.2 on, IMO. (Of course, I watched the first 4 episodes of s1, in one night. But it seemed obvious that they were the set up from the "Behold, the healing powers of a bath moment.)

Wow the last thread sped out of here like a whirlwind. What was it 1 day from start to end? Nothing like the previous two threads over the holidays. Thanks for the new thread blaab.

We speculated of Christopher’s reactions to the letter from Lorelai’s point of view, but what if he is also hurt because he suspects that Rory feels the same way about Luke’s importance in her life and feels he has only himself to blame for not being that person. When Christopher and Lorelai argue over the letter, does she mention the fact that she and Rory were reminiscing about Luke and the contents of letter were the result? Christopher and Rory have never sat down and discussed how his absence in her life has affected her. He acknowledged his remorse to Lorelai in GB but she verbally told him it was in the past and that they will deal with the future together (or something like that). He never expressed his feeling to Rory. On reading the letter however, Lorelai’s written words might seem to contradict her spoken words to him in GB causing his concern over his delinquency to resurface. (You may be able to overlook the spoken words but the written words cannot be so easily forgotten because they are permanently etched in black and white).

How does Rory herself feel when she remembers the importance of Luke in her life and how the breakup has impacted her relationship with him. Do these memories in any way cause her to reflect on any childhood dreams she may have had of wishing it was dad instead of Luke?

This letter may be instrumental (though unintentionally) in being Lorelai’s confrontational voice to Christopher on his failings as Rory’s dad, something she verbally avoided doing all these years. This letter could also be instrumental in bringing on Christopher’s epiphany to the fact that he has to change his relationship with Rory so that he can be a more active presence in her life and be there for her in ways that he has never been before.

There is something about that phrase that annoys me and seems so weird. Does that mean that if Lorelai hadn’t seen Luke at the mall with April she wouldn’t have remembered anything? It just seems so unrelated. What exactly is it from this run-in at the mall that causes her sudden memory that didn’t occur when she saw him with Doula or when he came to visit her at the Inn for the reference letter?

While she was involved with Luke are we expected to believe that she also forgot Luke’s importance in Rory’s life and 8 months later she forgot him as well? Wow, an 8-month separation can do miracles. Was she really suffering from amnesia after all? Did she get into an accident that we were unaware of? I can see a person trying to forget, and to some extent succeeding, a painful experience but I can’t see how running into them one day after you’ve seen them a number of times suddenly triggers a forgotten memory. That’s just too contrived for me.

There are at least 4 people, including myself, who fall into both categories. You shouldn't feel so alone.

Although, I don't tend to remember to refer to myself as anything other than a shipper. It's a left over from my XF days, when there were really only two main groups, Shippers and Noromos.
