She didn't rob Huntzberger, she robbed strange people, that's all. She decided, aware what it meant, and not drunken, to do something bad; stealing isn't extravagant or an element of group therapy, it is, what it is - and Lorelai expected, that her daughter had a sense of right and wrong. It's why she disappointed her and hurt deeply.
But Lorelai didn't cut Rory off over stealing yacht. In fact, she joked about that. She cut her off because Rory went away from "the plan" and at the same she took refuge with Richard and Emily. To Lorelai, that's the ultimate betrayal. Always has been. Before Rory said she was going to drop out of school she was going to get her a lawyer, nothing would have kept her out of that court room. It was all about Lorelai's own hurt.

Or about Lorelai being cut out by her parents. Maybe hurt - or maybe she just recognised that there was nothing she could do.

We don't know if she was torn, we don't know what she thought about the court appearance, because ASP never showed us that scene or day.

We may not have seen that scene or that day from Lorelai's perspective, but we DID see Richard calling her about the lawyers meeting. If Lorelai felt the least bit torn, she would have made one of her famous sad faces.

Not when she was talking to Richard. Has she ever made a sad face while talking to either of her parents? Rarely if ever.

LG may not have liked the 'rift' storyline (and said so publicly), but she played that scene, in my opinion, as Lorelai wanting to hear nothing whatsoever about Rory's case or court date.

From Richard, she didn't. Because that cut her out of it - to participate meant going along with their approach, which she did NOT think was good for Rory.

And there's two truths here. She was right - it wasn't. But also, it gave Rory the opportunity to find out herself, to grow and find - or in the end, confirm - herself.

Lorelai was still pissed at the world, plus she was on a high with the engagement and having a secret from her parents. She was not gonna back down, maybe Luke knew when not to say something so didn't push it after the scene with Paris.

Crap. This situation was a really big deal involving a third party -- officialdom -- who, by the way, has not personally and deeply hurt Lorelai. In fact, it has no idea who she is. And yet, Lorelai was treating the whole "daughter's felony hearing" like one of her parent's invitations to X-mas dinner or to a coming out party. Rory could've ended up standing trial. How would Lorelai have liked that outcome ... and her not being there. Would she have turned up for the trial or would she have waited for a special invitation? I wonder what Miss Manners would say?

IMO if it had gone to trial the whole separation would have been way shorter and Lorelai would have went, maybe if only to complain about the crappy lawyer they got.

Rory was an adult. She left!! She moved in to her grandparents pool house without so much as a 'see ya' to her mother, she left her grandparents to explain, knowing full well she basically committed the absolute worst betrayal as far as her mother was concerned, after such a cowardly act if she wanted her mother to show up at the court hearing then she should have been the one to call and ask.

Why not, going to a hearing which is "under control" is way different to a trial which may last a week or so with the chance she could be locked up.

Hey it's JMO

BWAH!

The boards seem to get either pissy or funny when we are bored. Thanks for adding to the latter.

I hope gossipcom's spec is right and that Logan is at the hospital with Rory. Because aside from that horrid dinner, has he ever been around Richard, Emily, and Lorelai all at the same time? Good times ahead.
