Yes, it certainly did. And I think both Freud and Jung would tell you that it did affect Rory significantly. At issue between the two men would be the description and analysis of how it afected her, by discussing the unconscious mechanisms at play in Rory's inner psyche.

I like the fact that Rory thinks about Luke too. I mean he was supposed to become her step dad. He gave her his mother's pearls. He was there for her when she grew up many a times. He was always a good friend and I never liked that she went to the diner just once.

Yes, I also thought it was both, besides, I wouldn't want Lorelai, with her endless babbling capabilities to suddenly go mute, not when it's reminiscing about Luke.
