Luke has been more of a father to Rory than Chris has been. It's not so much a matter of what he's done -- the coffee cake, coming to her graduation, helping her move into Yale-- but more of a matter of how he deeply cares for Rory. This shows in practically all of the older episodes. Rory is like his second daughter, even if he expresses that in a strange way. In the episode where Jess and Rory get into an accident, when Luke and Lorelai are fighting, Luke says something along the lines of "I care about her more than I care about myself"...idk the exact line but I'm positive of the content.

Luke is UNCONDITIONAL. He may be emotionally stunted at times, and it sure takes awhile to get things through his head, but he is a very, very loyal person.
