Choosing not to lie in that situation was the right thing to do. It was obvious that Logan truly did like Lucy, and that he believed she was a nice girl. He had already expressed concern about the lie in general in the first scene. He wouldn't have blurted anything out just to hurt Lucy or to be a jerk to Marty. However, you can't force him to add to the long chain of lies - that could only cause more trouble in the end, with Lucy finding out that everyone was lying to her.
