Episode 7.18: Hay Bale Maze

The CW: LORELAI AND LUKE CLEAR THE AIR ?? As Stars Hollow prepares for its annual Spring Fling festival, Rory (Alexis Bledel) brings Logan (Matt Czuchry) home and shows him around town. Lorelai (Lauren Graham) sees how serious their relationship has become and worries that Logan is too irresponsible for Rory. Taylor (Michael Winters) angers the town by spending the entire Spring Fling budget on a huge hay bale maze. At an unexpected encounter in the maze, Lorelai and Luke (Scott Patterson) apologize to one another and admit they both made mistakes that lead to the end of their engagement. Meanwhile, Rory has a job interview with the Providence Journal-Bulletin and struggles with decisions about her future. Melissa McCarthy, Yanic Truesdale, Liza Weil and Sean Gunn also star. Episode 7.19: It's Just Like Riding a Bike

The CW: Lorelai stops into Luke's diner for breakfast for the first time since their break-up, but finds they are awkward and uncomfortable together. Later, Lorelai's Jeep breaks down and she asks Luke to help her shop for a new car. While they look at cars, Lorelai and Luke's irritation with one another finally explodes into a fight, which Lorelai secretly takes as a good sign. Meanwhile, Paris gets accepted to numerous law schools and medical schools, and decides she must break up with Doyle so their relationship won't influence her choice of a graduate school. Finally, Rory gets a surprising letter that will impact her future plans.

TV Guide: Soon after stopping into the diner for the first time since the breakup, Lorelai asks Luke to go with her while she shops for a new car, but the outing ends in a big fight. Meanwhile, Paris gets accepted to several medical and law schools, and decides to end her relationship with Doyle so that he won't be a factor in her decision; and Rory receives a letter that will alter her future.

The CW: LORELAI ROCKS A KARAOKE BAR ─ With graduation looming, Rory (Alexis Bledel)is anxiety-ridden over her future, so Lorelai (Lauren Graham) tries to cheer her up with a day of eating and shopping. Lorelai notices happily that Luke (Scott Patterson) is once again wearing the baseball cap she gave him, and invites him to join her and Rory for karaoke night at a local bar. After a few drinks, Lorelai takes the stage to sing a heartfelt number which is obviously directed at Luke. Logan returns from a business trip to California and comes to see Lorelai to discuss his future with Rory. Melissa McCarthy, Keiko Agena, Liza Weil, Sean Gunn, Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann also star. Bethany Rooney directed the episode written by David S. Rosenthal.

I'm really not that upset that Luke isn't going. I wish he was, but I don't want him there with Chris there and Lorelai trying to play nice with Chris (or Lorelai be flirty with Chris, which, let's face it, we know it'll be there, whether it was written that way or not).

Since we know Rory tells Lorelai that Chris is coming, maybe Luke hears that from her and decides to sit this one out and celebrate later? I just can't see it being like Luke isn't invited. With the townies being so upset, they have to think that they could go. And if they even knew Luke wasn't invited, they probably wouldn't push to go.

He'll be a part of the other parties and events. I'm excited for those.

It does seem odd that Luke isn't at Rory's graduation, when he was there for Chilton, and had less history with L/R at that time.

I've always felt that he was at Rory's Chilton graduation because Lorelai asked him. Rory always has shown more love for her father, and seems to accept Luke as some kind of fixture, nice but not overly important. Lorelai has always been the one that has been impressed with Luke's feelings for Rory.

If L/L are making moves to becoming close again, I can't see why Lorelai wouldn't invite him. Unless Chris being there is causing some problems, or making Lorelai feel awkward. That's the Chris we know and love, screwing up things for everyone yet once again.

SPA, when you mentioned that some people were getting a sick satisfaction out of the fans' reaction, did you mean posters, or TPTB at GG?

We may feel that way. Lorelai might even feel that way, although I didn't think the letter made that as cut and dried as some would have liked. But the question is, does Rory feel that way? I don't recall Rory ever expressing that sentiment. I am not surprised that he isn't at the graduation and I would be surprised if he is at any party planned by Emily. Considering that for most of season 6, she was seeing him as the guy that was hurting her mother, intentionally or not, and she doens't appear to have had much contact with him at all in season 7 (even less than Lorelai), I am just not surprised.

Yeah, Katie, I'm not so upset either. In light of everything else, it's really not a big deal. What bothers me slightly about it is NOT the Luke isn't there for Rory but Christopher is type thing, it's more that Luke not being there might indicate that he and Lorelai haven't reached a very high level of commitment. But, who knows how it will play out.

I don't know how any of you can skip the episode -- it's such a pivotal episode for the series!
