So as of Wednesday the 8th season was still up in the air? That's sad, lol.

Quote:
"We knew before we got Chris and Lorelai married that they would end up divorced. And by the way," Grae said, "the whole story between Chris and Lorelai, in some ways, was a legacy of Amy's." According to Grae, the last scene that Amy Sherman-Palladino ever wrote was in the final episode of season six, when Luke rejects Lorelai's marriage ultimatum, and Lorelai once again turns to her childhood sweetheart, Christopher, for a little more than just condolence.

"If not for that, maybe we wouldn't have gotten Chris and Lorelai together this year," said Grae. "But that was the situation we were handed, and we were interested in the potential fallout from that moment."
David Grae/Rosenthal Interview too.

From the interview:

Although Rosenthal makes the final call on all aspects of the show, he said that "oftentimes, the person who has the clearest vision and is the most passionate about something wins the day."
If only ASP had been willing to listen to others. Although I supppose DR must have been deaf the day he decided to have L/C elope, lol.

Re: L/L getting back together and who makes the first move. I suppose I like the idea of Luke throwing the party, because it is more romantic. Lorelai pursuing Luke is all female empowerment and stuff, but it's just doesn't float my romantic boat. Also, it emasculates Luke, imo. IRL, Luke probably would be friends with Lorelai, but never consider a relationship with her in a million years. To me, Luke making the final decision on whether they will be back together shows his strength, and I think it has to be him mking the final decision, due to Lorelai going to Chris. I don't want to see Luke sitting around waiting on Lorelai to ask him out. YMMV.

However, I know that guys can be clueless and need some encouragement. I see Lorelai offering that encouragement. Also, Luke overhears her denying her feelings. She might be trying to avoid the busybodies. I'm guessing she comes clean, because that is one thing I would hate, seeing her denying her feelings. I want her to be strong enough to be honest. I do think she must give Luke some encouragement, or he wouldn't be planning the party.

I loved the DC, because it was so funny and well acted, besides being very realistic. I didn't care as much for the car shopping scene. I didn't like the evil look in Lorelai's eye at the end. It looked kind of mean, as if she didn't really care for Luke. I know I'm in the minority on this one, lol.

Happily ever after isn't a show, it's an ending. To do a show every week, you need conflict,
Meh.... whatever! You can be happy and have conflict??!!?

And what they are too polite to mention is that ASP also left them with an "A" storyline contract for DS!!!!!

While I appreciate them blaming Amy (at last) for Lorelai ending up in Chris's bed, they didn't have to go where they did. Lorelai's wake-up call that she needed to get herself together should have been the morning after. Instead they nearly ruined a great character and pissed off millions of fans by actually having her marry Christopher. blech.

But the fact that they are doing interviews is good, don't you think? If they were going to end this year, I don't think the writers and producers would be out talking.

Thanks for those interviews. It's a really interesting read, especially DR and Grae talking about this season.

Yeah well, they were the only one's interested, and the fallout from the way they handled that moment backfired on them, big time!

Thanks for the new thread and articles/interviews. For some reason, nothing they said about the show really suprised me.

Thanks for the interviews! So interesting. I'm so jealous of the student reporter who interviewed LG!

Yeah, and they kissed in S4, and after making up in S5, and getting engaged in S6... I'm really tired of "LL kiss!" being a spoiler.

Yep, and after the 8038 LC kisses we had to suffer through this season....wow, ONE LL kiss is really...wow....

Me neither. None of it was new. They're still not bothering - or they don't dare - explain how they think anyone can believe LL's last-minute reunion means they magically live happily ever after.

How can writers think there's no drama in putting these two characters together and watching them try to make a go of it after everything that happened?

Even without the memories of lying, cheating, and jumping into a new marriage - doesn't integrating two step-children, dealing with Emily and Richard's endless disapproval, figuring out where to live (after Luke renovated the house - without enough bedrooms - then Christopher lived and left his flatscreen there). There's always been ample conflict material in a new marriage, and there's so much more to deal with now.

If the writers' vision is so limited that all they can see is "your're pretty, no you're pretty" then I give up. I still can't believe how severely lacking they are in imagination, in understanding, in just about everything, except a bag of cheap shock-tricks.

Rita Mimoun, who seems to have disappeared from GG rather quickly, said last summer that having marrying Andy and Nina Everwood would have given Everwood a whole new dynamic.

Totally agree.
