Well, I do wish that after 7 years, one drunken serenade to the love of her life could be enough for me. I know it has to be but I would have really loved the serenade if she hadn't been drunk.

Her blather about how Luke can't say his feelings when the only way she has been able to is by being drunk and singing him a song - and not even one that started out being for him - then, she can't even own up to it. I don't dislike Lorelai - I just despise the writers for taking so little care to do something really well.

I know I've been critical of the writing all season - but that's where the responsibility lies - completely....and the direction, but the writing is the heart and soul of a show. Well done, it sparkles and entrances - like earlier ASP; when it stinks, you get idiotic, soap opera storylines, out of character characters, eye rolling dialogue and a mob of disappointment, angry, sad fans.

I logged on today feeling like this:

It's so clear in it that Lorelai's not truly over him when she says that she is.

But then I read this:

This story was originally founded on a mother and daughter bond that could never be duplicated. 7 years ago we were introduced to their whacky ways and the crazy town they were from and in a few days time that will all be over. Stars Hollow and everything it brought us will cease to exist. This will be the last time we see the townspeople banning together to show their love and devotion to their shining star, Rory. It's the last time we'll see Rory and Lorelai sharing wonderful mother-daughter/best friends moments together. It's the last time we'll see Lorelai glowing with pride because of her amazing kid. It's the last time we'll hear their wit and sarcasm. It's the last time we'll see Emily and Richard be Emily and Richard. It's the last time we'll see Kirk and his insane antics. It's the last time we'll see Michel with his thick, crazy accent. It's the last time we'll see Sookie being the crazy chef and best friend that she is. It's the last time we'll get to see the town gossips be town gossips. We get to see Rory go out on the grand adventure we always knew she was capable of going on.

There is so much to say goodbye to. So much we'll never get to experience again. I don't understand dwelling on a few rough bumps in a long line of fabulous stories.
And like WandaRose, I love this show and have loved it for 7 years. The ending may not be the one I've dreamed about, but it could be a lot worse. I want to enjoy my last hour in SH with all the 'friends' I've come to know throughout the show's run. I want to be able to take it on faith that Luke and Lorelai have changed and will live happily ever after with a few flannel-clad babies. I look forward to coming back and seeing what everyone has to say after the finale, but I think that in order to enjoy the final hour I need to stay away from here so I can stop reading negative comments. Thanks to all of you for the spoilers, clips, news, and opinions you've shared over the years I've been here. See you Tuesday night!

It's also completely contrived so that DR could have Luke throw the party and then make a big deal out of "Look he did something!" The ping-pongness of the LL relationship over these last few episodes is borderline bipolar and almost makes me grateful that DR didn't get an 8th season to play with.

I just have to keep reminding myself that Lorelai doesn't know what we do. She doesn't know Luke couldn't get the song out of his head. She doesn't know that he was actually getting excited about what it might have meant. She doesn't know that he got her a necklace to show her he still cares. She doesn't know he overheard what she said to Patty and Babetter
And I just keep remembering that even though Luke thinks the karoake was "meaningless" and that Lorelai doesn't love him after all, he still throws Rory the party because he wants to see Lorelai happy.

He doesn't wait for affirmation or validation. Or for Lorelai to "reward" him. His love is unconditional. Lorelai's is not.

Wanda Rose, I get that the finale should be appreciated for everything you listed (and at this point, those things seem like the only thing worth watching next week), but tell that to the Promo Dept. They made it all about Luke and Lorelai. If the writers/show didn't make their "JOURNEY OR REUNION" such a big freakin' deal, the audience wouldn't either. Your argument (along with others) is akin to a crack dealer reprimanding their junkies for being addicted. The show used L/L fans, JJ's and Sophies to bring in the ratings but in the end we are idiot fools for focusing on the wrong thing.

ITA. We could still have her married to Dopey and pregnant. That would have been a disaster!!! Who knows? If DSR expected an 8th season, it could have gone that way, if he really wanted to drag it out.

OT: I think that LG knew she wasn't coming back. All along. Why would she request more emotion in the finale? Why would she want every character to have a moment???

I just don't get how a drunken, impromptu serenade that she herself admits leaves her feeling confused is supposed to be the extent of Lorelai's attempt to be with Luke. That's it? And now she's going to be okay going back to being friends.

I sure haven't seen any signs (other than the song) that Lorelai is in love with Luke. She seems ambivalent at best. She's awfully happy to have him serving her coffee and helping with her car, but other than that, she seems pretty meh. Frankly, I've had no clue what Lorelai's been feeling for more than a year. Was she in love with Christopher? Why was it "not right?" Did she fall out of love with Luke or has she been in love with him all along? She's the main character, but we keep having to read the tea leaves and fanwank like crazy to make things make sense for her.

It's not ending the way I hoped it would, but I do like how it's ending. At the end of the day, it's ending, there's nothing we can do about that, so I'm just going to sit and enjoy it, too. I might have wanted LL to have more things resolved, to have learned more. But all in all, I just want the LL ending to have them happy. And they both look awfully happy in the promo, so I'm good.

Great posts CineFille and WandaRose.

This is it. There ain't no more. That's all she wrote. I'm not even trying to make sense of it now, because it is what it is and it'll never be explained. I'll sit back and watch it play out, with the knowledge that at least Luke & Lorelai end in a happy place. It could be a whole lot worse (echoing other thoughts).

See, this is all we have left.

I hope to be convinced. Don't dare count on it.

What gets me, is I still can't imagine pulling out the old episodes, five years sitting there - most of all, I was waiting for them to redeem the show and give those back to me.

Some people can compartmentalize. I wish I could, because all the echoes of previous years remind me of promises so unfultilled, so tarnished - this was a beautiful world, all the memories in everyone's posts are right - but there's too much sadness and betrayal overlaid on it now.

I always thought that when it ended, i'd have those back.

You're right clmorrow....this is what annoys me about the DC. Who the heck is she to demand that Luke has to "show her" how he feels? She didn't even intend to sing that song for him. What would have happened if Luke never walked into the bar? Nothing.

The whole thing is stupid and frustrating and tiresome.

from Ausiello: I rarely get depressed by my blind items, but I must confess, this one's got me down in the dumpers. It concerns two of my favorite actors who, through a remarkable twist of fate, found themselves paired up romantically on a show I have been known to obsess over. Unfortunately, I have since learned that what I thought was a match made in heaven was pure hell for them. Apparently, my dream duo rubbed each other the wrong way right from the start of their brief on-screen fling. In fact, the female half of the terrible twosome has already been overheard referring to her TV squeeze as the most despicable person she's ever worked with. Her other half, meanwhile, has taken the silent but deadly approach: When asked about his former co-star, he simply rolls his eyes and pleads the fifth. This whole thing has left me similarly speechless, save for these two words: Any guesses?!
Hmm, I wonder who it could be. Lauren and Scott?????

Bad writing. period.

I think that I will not watch the old episodes for awhile - this crap is just to fresh for me to just soak up the early delight of watching those older shows. I know I'll enjoy them again - when this stuff has faded and I've rerworked the end of the season to have been the end of season five. Like Lorelai, I too can effectively lie to myself when I need to....

How could that be LG and SP? Their romance went on for 2 years. And, really, with all the stupid rumors out there, why would this be news to MA now? And, I don't think I've ever that SP is one of his fave actors - he barely utters SP's name.
