This is where it's blurred a bit IMO. Since Lorelai is truly done with Chris, I'm not so sure that it's actually wrong for her to be in a relationship with Luke. If L/C were still trying to "work things out," then I'd be inclined to agree with you. L/C both know that it's over between them. The actual divorce is a mere formality. YMMV

I was hoping that they would be divorced by the end of the season.
Well it IS possible. But I'm not counting on it.

It's a bummer that Lorelai may still be legally married to Christopher when she and Luke reach their "new understanding" and kiss. To me that is supposed to signal their brand spankin' new beginning, clean slate. Why would DSR choose to keep that hanging in what could be a series finale?

C'mon. That blows on so many levels. The L/C trip is supposed to be done, fini when L/L get together for good. Maybe DSR is counting on using the spectre of Christopher (in the form of a never ending divorce) to keep L/L from reaching the altar next season.

I really disagree. They made a point to show that Luke and Nicole's divorce was final before Luke "saw her face". And there are more than a few of us who aren't real keen on Luke kissing Lorelai while she was still married to Christopher, even if it's just on paper. It's just wrong wrong wrong.

Bad enough the stupid Parisan elopement isn't even supposed to legal, but now it's not over.

IA! It would be ridiculous for them NOT to let us know that the marriage is over. For what reason would they do so? If it has no relevance to the sl, then they should wrap it up. The implication from the finale is that L/L get back together. So Luke is going to sleep with Lorelai while she's still married to Christopher? pfft.

It would be such good drama.

Just because we hear about it next season, doesn't mean that it didn't happen earlier. If it is not important to the story line, then maybe it is a character other than L/L who talks about it, in the past tense. With no date given as to when it happens.

I live in MA, and I moved out and started divorce proceedings in May and was divorced by Oct, and we had custody issues, and money fights. It robably could have been faster if we had had no children and assets to split. My darn anullment took much longer than that, and before that was finalized I was seeing someone.

Well no worse that what happened last year.

If it's over and just needs to be made legally over I can live with that.

If L/C are truly done with each other, and the divorce allegedly isn't going to be a major plot point, I don't see the sense in dragging it out until next season. There's no reason that it shouldn't/couldn't be wrapped up this season.

And my statement that it would be "wrong" wasn't (necessarily) about the moral issues. I just hate to think that they would be starting out together with excess baggage between them.

I didn't mean to cause a massive freak-out. The season 8 decision was made awhile ago. If this is the series finale, I highly doubt that they would leave that open-ended. So many things happen off-screen anyway. IF this is the last season, is it really that hard to imagine that the divorce became final.

I think DR is trying to be realistic for once. And just because Chris isn't a true threat anymore, there's nothing that stops him from dragging out the divorce. This would be boring and frustrating as all heck, but I'd take it over Chris as a true romantic complication any day. JMO

"Realistic" would be acknowledging that the marriage couldn't be lega in the first place.

I call bull on this whole thing.

Random and Off-Topic, but I know there are a few Studio 60 fans on this thread:

According to NBC's Website, Studio returns Thursday, May 24th at 10/9c.

Carry on with L/C divorce topic.

heh, thanks blaab.

I don't see why the divorce ever really has to be brought up again, we never saw the wedding, or Lorelai actually agreeing to marry Christopher, why do we have to spend anymore time thinking about it? We know they're not getting back together so why even deal with it?

These are not 100% spoilers. They're just "talk." They could be true, but they could be complete bull as well.

I get that, but I still don't think it's anything to lose sleep over. At least they'd be equally guilty. And I still think that it's not quite the same. If Luke "saw her face" before the divorce was finalized but waited to ask her out, then they'd be the same.

LOL I was just on the S60 news thread. This weeks podcast did say something similar.

Back on topic - I'm just hoping like many things the divorce is just assumed and not bought up again. But I do find it stupid that they haven't even talked on the phone since they split, has he even spoke to Rory?

Seriously, it would be complete horse**** for DR to claim "realism" for slowing up the divorce after everything that's happened this year. ARGH!

Honestly, the whole big finale kiss would be tainted for me if L/C were still legally married. I'm not a prude or a moral crusader. It just doesn't make sense to drag out the divorce when Christopher is not going to be a part of the sl anymore and this is supposed to be a new beginning for L/L. I mean, is their new "understanding" going to be "I love you, but I'm still legally married, so I'll see you in 6-8 weeks and then we can start our new life together." oh, swoon.
