What I would also love is a tiny moment in maybe 7.21 where after talking with Luke, Lorelai turns away and ends up bumping into something and we see her face as she realizes it and knows why.

I haven't been a big fan of some of the stuff they have been repeating this year from seasons past, but this one little thing would definately make me incredibly happy.

I just realllllly want Luke to say something to Lorelai about her being embarassed, I mean that to me would show progress. Him keeping his "hurt" inside...is like them back at square one.

Sadly though, I'm not expecting him to say anything. Or her.

Maybe the point of "Lorelai is glad that she and Christopher can still be friends" is supposed to contrast Lorelai's realization that she and Luke can NOT be friends ONLY, even if that is all she can hope for. We see her agressively renewing a friendship with him, but by the time Rory's graduation party happens, she won't be able to deny that she will always feel more than friendship for him. Hence the "new understanding" in 7.22.

Sounds right. But I would have preferred them to realize they can be just friends off screen. Just my personal preference though. Hee. I am still very curious why Luke is not at the graduation? Maybe something to do with April.. Since the boat trip is canceled it might be the only chance he has to spend time with her?? Or it really is a ticket issue..

I am a terrible procrastinator.

I really hope that's the case. It'll a good contrast if DR and Co. meant for it to be that way. Lorelai can be there with Chris, and decide to be his friend again, and leave it at that. It's totally clear that no matter how hard she's trying to just be a friend to Luke again, it's not going to continue to be enough for them.

That makes the most sense both storywise and DR heavy-handed-anvil wise. I've little hope that anything is going to really happen LL wise in 7.21 other than Luke hearing that comment, but a whole "Lorelai sees his face" thing would work, and then she could slow down as she passes the diner on her way home and we could have 'revelation' music playing in the background.

I'm glad people can think more rational than i am when it comes to c word. That actually makes sense and i hope it plays out this way!

As far as Christopher is concerned, as we're on the subject, I'm actually glad we'll get to see them realize they can be friends. It would not make sense after all we've been through with C/L/L to see Lorelai estrange Christopher of her life. The point was really to show that they were not meant for each other as lovers. The problem between them was that this question was always up in the air. They got closure with the relationship and the marriage (whether we liked seeing in or not) and now they need to keep this friendship. I think in the future they'll see each other only for an event concerning Rory and Lorelai won't turn to him when something's bad (and Luke is not "available"!). I really agree with you there Ciaobella, it might help Lorelai realize that contrary to Christopher who will only be a friend ever, Luke on the contrary, is more than that.

Maybe the reason Luke is not coming to the graduation is to avoid having to write a scene Luke/Christopher and maybe Lorelai in the mix. That would be a hard scene to write and maybe a bunch of fan screaming: "hell no!! not again!!"!! I can imagine the tension, and seeing how LL are getting closer to each other, It would not play in favor of the fact that she dumped Chris because she did not and could not love him other than as a friend. No Luke implied in the equation at the time. And the triangle SL could resume at any time.
With Luke not being there, it eases the focus on the possible friendship between Lorelai and Christopher and also the fact that he's here for Rory.

For our prayed-for eighth season, he doesn't need to come back, things we'll be settled with Lorelai, he can go visit Rory when she's offscreen and all is good in the world!

Sorry for using the C word so much!

Auré

Jeez, only 5 pages overnight!

I'm just hoping that Christopher's(I'm being polite) appearance is minimal. We see him cheering Rory on at graduation, he tells Lorelai the divorce is final and they decide they can still be friends, end of story. That should take about,oh, 30 seconds.

Thanks GGAva, for doing the podcast transcript.

Hey folks!
I'm not at home at the moment and my connection to the internet kinda sucks (supposed to get better next week). I'm coughing the podcast right about now and I'll do a transcript tonight. I'll post it tomorrow evening. Sorry for the delay.

I very much like this, Ciao. Maybe there will be some creative parallel scenes -- Lorelai and Christopher being civil and clearly just friends vs. Lorelai and Luke being civil but clearly bursting with (good) tension. I'm really, really looking forward to every one of the new episodes. That's a good feeling!

Exactly! When Luke overhears Lorelai deny the "Love Song" was meaningless, it confirms his idea that they are only friends. Ditto for the reason why he replaces the black cap for the blue one - hopefully Lorelai will hear Luke explain that he did it cos he lost the black one. So here we have two idiots who are under the misperception that they are Just Friends. It will take something eye-opening for them admit to each other that it's not enough, and it will never ever be.

I'd love to see a repeat of that scene in F&S where Emily looks at both Luke and Lorelai and says to them, "You're idiots. Both of you." Right before Lorelai kisses Luke.
