Hey, if there's a really great karaoke scene of any sort (before, of course, the ultimately revealing IWALY song that Lorelai sings), I will be crying laughter.

I really hope the writers took the opportunity during this 'karaoke' idea to give us a funny karaoke moment. No karaoke night can end without group number by a bunch of people, mumbling words with the music and laughing hysterically.

Doesn't make sense. Before April rode into town he was practically living with Lorelai, renovating the CS so he could move in, and even complaining to her about not setting a wedding date. He wanted to get married; it's not like he got cold feet and decided, HEY, I'll just say I need time to get to know April so I can get out of marrying Lorelai!

Nope, I think April WAS the reason why he was distancing himself from Lorelai - cos as he said himself, he could only concentrate on one thing at a time and he thought things were cool with Lorelai. He figured he could put all of his attention into his daughter and Lorelai didn't object either.

He didn't use April to shut Lorelali out of his life; he had no clue he was shutting her out. I think that caption is worded incorrectly.

god you thougth the whole 12 episode arc was an excuse? For real?

You didn't once think...hey this guy got handed a lousy deal. His mind was reeling. He couldn't figure out the proper way to handle this. That maybe april wasn't an excuse not to marry her but oh yeah...an issue he had to come to terms with and try to understand why someone he once cared about thought he was such a dirtbag that he didn't deserve to know his own kid!!

I just saw the LL rift as a product of Luke UNINTENTIONALLY shutting Lorelai out (and Lorelai's crap as well). I never thought April was the "excuse". I thought April caused the problem -- not that I have anything against April whatsoever, because I don't. But I doubt Luke would have backed off had he not been consumed by a life changing event such as learning you've had a daughter for so many years. You know?

I think y'all are missing my point. I'm not saying that Luke never wanted to marry Lorelai, and that April gave him an excuse to keep her at a distance. I'm saying that Luke kept Lorelai at a distance BECAUSE of April's appearance.

But I thought we had a spoiler that said at the end of the Maze conversation, Lorelai will know that Luke always wanted to marry her?????

thats what i thought before but then you said the caption was accurate and the caption said he used her as an excuse to distance lorelai...not the reason why he distanced her. They need to take a course in writing for an audience 101

I think the caption IS accurate even though it's worded a bit weird.In that caption,you could probably replace "excuse" with "reason." I think the caption is trying to say that when Luke shut Lorelai out, April was his excuse.

I think that Lorelai will be the one that makes the physical move first. It was Luke who asked her to dance first , Luke who on his dark day went over to Miss Patty's and kissed Lorelai quiet, Luke in SGT who kissed her to make up, so I think this time because the Gazebo is set up for dancing, Lorelai asks him to dance and while they are dancing she kisses him, maybe Luke is the one who does the talking about getting back together.

Oh I think we are creating a giant misunderstanding. To me, "excuse" and "reason" are two different things. I think we're on the same page though.

They're not the same,but I do think they're similar. The point I'm trying to make is that I think Luke used his tunnel-vision to justify(to himself) keeping Lorelai at a distance.

Anyway, I'm pretty confident that the person who told me(that the caption was accurate) has the same interpretation I did. If I turn out to be wrong about that, I'll give a heads up.
