I think they all take what they can get. If Alexis didn't want a full season but would agree to a lighter one they took it. Everyone was in for another season besides AB so I think they compromised somewhere.
I don't think Lauren has to do more work now. They have other characters on the show who will be involved more.
Zach and Lane - they built them up pretty nicely this season so why not go into more detail next season.
We have Luke and April who could definitely do more. I mean Scott had a pretty light season now so why not go full force next year since it's the last.
Sookie and Jackson could come more into play. Same goes for Richard and Emily.
They all had a pretty light season this year.

I wish I could see things as you do, peachy, and be more optimistic, but I'm not sure I'm convinced DR has slowed anything down, at least not in his eyes:

Rory off into the world, Bon voyage to her, meeting CA, breaking up with Logan - is not slowing down.

LL together, as spoilers say, even if not married - is not slowing down, not in TV world, not in TPTB's mind.

The whole town appearing in the final episode/s.

Emily/Lorelai getting to some point of understanding in "Kayak" and GGO.

I wish I were more optimistic about an eighth ....

ETA - Same goes for your optimism, Capp. Wish I'd be infected by it already, I am trying to keep close so as to contract it.

And what you said about how it can work for all if it's Rory lite - makes sense, if only .... I hope they found a way to make it work.

remember the episode where we all said Luke was more ooc than usual when buying the twickman house - the one where he hugs lorelai about getting the dragonfly into the magazine - anyway what if the two of them become so ooc in the last five eps we don't know who they are

I know it's early but before I forget - is it ok if I take the next thread ? I know I only did it once with the MT but that one here seems like a piece of cake compared to the MT - only one post to copy and paste
