Lorelai and Luke not getting married in the finale will end this series in a wash. There will be no payoff to our investment, just breaking even, since they'll only be where they were before Christopher came along. But it's a nice trick they pulled - tearing L/L apart for two years, so even just a committed declaration will looks good.

If it ends with L/L declaring their committment to each other, we may as well have just stopped watching after WitS, when L/L were together and ALL IN. At least we wouldn't be exposed to all the ugliness that followed.

BTW - the "replace AB" was a joke I know they would not do that and the current SL is a perfect out for the character, I just don't know how the show would feel without here, maybe a wacky long lost cousin could show up, then again we could have Anna die and April come live with the newly wed L&L in the CS

You and I will just have to agree to disagree on this one. Because I don't think it's anywhere near the same. L/L are not the same people that they were way back in season 5. Luke is a much better person now, and I believe Lorelai is getting there as well(sorry, but I refuse to go around the "she's a piece of trash for marrying Chris" tree again). I think they'll be more in love and more committed to each other than they were before. And I don't think they were anywhere close to that in season 5 and season 6.

I think everything points towards a Season 8 and a good LL ending in a way the fans will appreciate it.

But if all my hopes and believes in this will be destroyed by some "last 5 GG episodes ever" promo I do not exclude the possibility that I would cry one tear or two of dissapointment and anger

...damn we have deserved a very good LL endling!!!

and btw: can anyone access the TWOP forums? I alway get a DBE trying it

Not to go around the tree again, but neither Luke nor Lorelai were truly "all in" in seasons 5 or 6. Yes, they truly loved each other, and it's clear that they were destined to be each other's "lobsters." But there was too much lying, miscommunication, and compartmentalizing on both their parts to make a permanent relationship work, and a marriage between them with all those issues between them would have been disastrous.

If this season ends with it clear that both Luke and Lorelai have learned from their mistakes and are ready to truly commit to each other and let each other in, we'll be miles ahead of where we were in 5.3, 5.22, 6.9, or 6.22

I agree and as I said before once they commit this time it could be a VERY quick trip to the "I do's" so who knows with the cancelled party maybe something is up, hey maybe Luke finally knocked up Lorelai and she needs to take it easy

Same here and it's not just GG, the forums are down but the other non forum part of TWoP is working.

Not to sound like a Petey the Parrot, but how will we know? How will they know? They were sure back in S5 and S6 too. The only thing that will SHOW the audience that this time is for real is to give us what we never saw before from either one of them: a wedding ceremony. This show THRIVES on anvils and symbolism. Seeing L/L exchange vows will say it all and leave no doubt.

I'll be disappointed if we don't get a wedding, because it would have been a fantastic townie scene. It also could have given us some really good R/E scenes as well.

I think my biggest rant is about all the lost opportunities on this show.
