Now that I think of it, Ausiello probably just forgot to put in the undecisive wording "season/series", it's probably insignificant, though he has been careful about it till now.

In addition, I feel breaking RL up does not bode well for another season, since they could most likely loose many viewers who ship this couple, unless it's a temporary breakup.
