I would think that they would be heavily promoting it if it were the end of the series. As gjoni said, the promotion would probably attract more viewers. This is one of the reasons I am still hopeful for a season 8. MA said they had not written 7.22 yet when he was discussing CA so maybe they extended the hiatus to give DR more time to write the last episode, banking on a change of heart by AB? I really think they would have announced something if it was the end. Or they will announce something with the first new episode after the hiatus.

All AB was contracted for was 7 years and that is all she is obligated to fulfill.

I believe that Liz/Spikette just gave the right answer: when they'll promote the new episode after the hiatus they'll probably go all "tune in for the last five episode of Gilmore Girls".

I swear to God: if they had handled the LC vs LL thing more properly I'd be definitely ready to let go of this show.

I do understand ABs POV and I'm not saying it's an easy choice. But from a characters POV I don't agree that her story is over. I would enjoy seeing Rory doing what she was meant to do, struggling to be who she wanted to be, etc.

In my own little scenerio I know many people wouldn't agree with, I think it would be fun if she came back the Hollow and took over the Gazette. It's a small paper yes, and it's a small town, of course, but it would interesting to see her take something small like that, make it into something successful and see her grow from there. I'd love to see her interacting with the town once again, covering town events, arguing with Taylor over important topics, bringing politics and real world issues into Stars Hollow. It would give her a slower pace to start out at, in a fun and familiar environment. She can even bring Logan along and together they could consquer the small news journal world.

I really do think it would be interesting. Not to mention seeing her really interact with her mother again. I think it would bring around some of the old GG feel while still having things moving forward. But like I said, I know most wouldn't agree with it because they'd see it as a step back for Rory.

Maybe because of the hiatus, it's too soon to promote the end of the series, since it's still a few weeks until a fresh episode, one of the last five, airs. On the other hand, I think knowing it was the end, more people would even tune in to watch these hiatus repeats, especially people who've severed ties with GG some time ago and haven't even seen these yet.
Eh, what do I know anyway? Obviously so little of this TV business monster ....

None of us has any idea what plans AB has for her own life - so, whatever she decides will be fine by me. Someone may think she has her whole life in front of her so why not give one more year to this show - but, she may have plans to for herself that are, rightly so, private for now.

That's my beef. ASP tanked the show and DR just continued on this unsatisfying horrid path and, for me, they wasted their last year simply because they were stuck with the contract ASP arranged for DS and we got screwed. It's not AB's fault and I don't think she has to do another year to give them time to give viewers closure that will be more satisfying.

I'm still wondering just how much time L/L will have together in the next two episodes - at the very least. Right now, sadly, we know so little about what's coming up....rats.

You know who would love this scenario? LG herself, whose pet peeve all these years since Rory went off to Yale has been that, in her opinion, there just haven't been enough Lorelai-Rory scenes since season 4.

Ausiello Report (LINK):

"Exclusive: CW Delays Gilmore Girls, Tree Hill
Looks like we're stuck with Gilmore Girls reruns for another couple weeks.

Sources confirm that the CW has pushed the show's return back a week to April 17. As a result, the season — and possibly series — finale moves from May 8 to May 15. According to a CW insider, the net "wanted more original Gilmore episodes in May."

Meanwhile, due to the surprise success of those Wednesday-night Pussycat Dolls reruns, One Tree Hill won't return with originals until May 2.

The good news? None of this is affecting Veronica Mars, which is still slated to return on May 1.

Any questions?"

What does that (the part I bolded ) mean regarding a season eight, if anything?

I think this really should be on the R&L thread, but it's here so I'll respond here.

Managing the Stars Hollow Gazette is really something one might choose to do in retirement, when a person is looking to slow one's life down. A young, vigorous person who wants to see the world (and maybe make a name for herself in her chosen field) isn't going to be able to do so running a local circular. I'm sure the citizens of Stars Hollow read more than just the Gazette and will be able to follow Rory's career and have her bring them real world issues via another platform.

I think the times we've seen Rory most excited was when she thought she could get Logan to take her to meet Seymour Hirsch, when she had the opportunity to work for Mitchum Huntzberger, when she became the editor of a major university newspaper, when she was planning her trip with Logan to Asia, when she met Hugo at Logan's party and was offered the chance to write for him, and when she interviewed with the NYT guy. That says to me she wouldn't be happy limiting herself to Stars Hollow and a small paper, which justifiably must focus on the community it serves and not as much on the greater world that interests Rory.

And next we have Christiane Amanpour, which will probably cause Rory to pee her pants.

It means that they want GG episodes to air during May Sweeps instead of in April. I don't think it means amything about S8. It is possible that they doubt GG will return so they want to promote the finale as a big may sweeps event.

What does that (the part I bolded ) mean regarding a season eight, if anything?

It means that the network wants the show to return, no matter what...

They could always kidnap AB and brainwash her into accepting a new contract, I suppose...or maybe they could do it to LG...LOL

Maybe LG and/or AB are still playing a game of "chicken" with the network, either individually or as a "package deal" and that is why we have not heard anything about anything yet...(last year, as I recall, we heard about the ASP stuff rather late...)

If the girls accept a "last minute offer" it would only be one that gives them mucho, muchisimo dinero

Which they richly deserve! The WB is and will continue to mine millions from syndication.

In general, I'm against brainwashing, but in this case I could be okay with it. lol. I really want an 8th season.

It will have to be a truckload of money.

ETA: Thanks for the advice, Audi. I don't know that I could have survived without it. lol.

I'll happily provide that link The GilmoreGirls.org Great8Mandate. I usually just lurk here but thought I'd chime in with this info and a reminder that the Great8Mandate is still in full force at this link. Any additional support you all can provide is greatly appreciated.

No. In fact, the moment she told Luke the truth about sleeping with Chris she started to redeem herself in my eyes. I hated everything about her being with Chris and marrying Chris (except knowing that it couldn't last forever) but maybe because I myself have shown spectacularly bad judgment at times with men, I've already forgiven her. She believed Luke didn't love her. At a very vulnerable point in her life, she had Chris saying "your it for me." Emily had been telling her that same thing for years, and then Luke reinforces it - "you belong with Chris...."

Now, that the EIF is over, I'm very excited to see what happens next!
