I think this is where their perceptions differ, though. Lorelai probably feels that she made herself perfectly clear about the break-up.

Ah, but remember, it was Lorelai that famously said to Rory that when it came to the language in regards to matters of the Heart, it all "came out in Moron".

You know, after going wedding dress shopping recently with some friends, the dress Lorelai has on really isn't all that bad. I've seen so much worse, lol
But yeah, a different dress for the next time would be good.

I think that there might be a mix of old hesitant Luke and the new luke that jumps. I think once LL first reach the point where they're getting close to being more than friends again, Luke (if they play him as really true to the way he's always been) would need to process a bit because of everything. But I think he'll end up making his mind up rather quickly, maybe even deciding to let go of things that they'll never be able to change or redo, and from that point, he'll jump fully into a relationship with her.

Well, honestly, if I was Luke, I wouldn't have had a freakin' clue...I would have thought that I just had a fight with my fiancee; which is obviously what he thought, given the final scene of 7.01.

I think Lorelai said enough when she told Chris that she "wants to want him." That confirms that she doesn't want him. I don't think we were ever supposed to feel that this was all worth it, and I think that's true to life. Sometimes people just mess up. Not everything has some grand payoff.

Katie, why does it have to make sense? Everyone does stupid things that don't make sense sometimes. Accepting that is HOW I make sense out of Lorelai's actions. I think people are trying too hard in attempting to apply logic to something non-sensical.
Well I need an better explanation because I WANT to like Lorelai again. In order to like her I need to understand and re-connect with her. A viewer has to empathize with a character; it's what keeps us coming back to see what happens. And even if we can't fully empathize, sympathy works too. And yet nothing that Lorelai has expressed emotionally makes me feel sorry for her or what she did. Certainly not "it wasn't right" after months of acting like it was more than right.

I think they are just both going to realize that they miss each other so much, and that yes they screwed up, but being apart is so much worse than just letting go and getting things righted.

I think we'd be more willing to accept however L/L reconcile this season if we knew we had an 8th season to really fully see it play out.

As it is, the prospect of seeing the package wrapped up in just three episodes sounds like we're getting a re-gift.

That's probably because Lorelai felt that it WAS right at the time. Second choices can still be right. I think that when she talked to Sookie in 7.14, she finally admitted to herself that Chris was the mere rebound guy. And that she didn't want to settle for second best. I think people are hoping for some grand explanation that will never come. Lorelai made a dumb choice. The marriage wasn't right, and I don't expect Lorelai to give us a pbp about why that is the case.

ETA: If I may ask, why is everyone so bitter all of a sudden? We were positive a few days ago. Why is there a sudden need to dwell on the past some more? LOL

Maybe because when we're not talking about it it's easy to not dwell on CL. We were just talking about the good stuff in ep. 19 for days. But as soon as we reflect back on the earlier eps this season, we get bitter again. Maybe it's also because every day it looks more and more like there's only 5 episodes of this show left, which makes us bitter about how much time was wasted on CL.

Man, I really did get all pessimistic, I hate when this happens.

I think, as fans, we deserve an explanation about what's been going on inside Lorelai's head for the last year. "It wasn't right" just isn't going to do. Feeling and emotions may not come all tied up with a nice bow in life, but this isn't real life, it's TV and the audience waits (and if you're a GG fan, waits and waits and waits) for that resolution when everything makes sense and we sit back on our couches with a satisfied smile (and hopefully a squee or two) and are content with what we see on the screen. After L/L have their talk in Ep. 18, we should be able to finally understand what the heck's been going on for the last year. We've spent enough time analyzing anvils and color schemes and the meaning of the Wolfgirl painting. Just tell the damn story!

I get that, but wouldn't it be better to write it all off as Lorelai's emotional instability and assume that she's "better" now? LOL

voncey, I really do get what you're saying. I just think that DR is going to go the realistic route here, so that's why I keep defending that tactic.
