And yes I forgot about the summer trip. So something or a certain someone might stop him from selling... Or something to that effect?

What are the chances Liz is at Lane's shower? And she says Luke is selling his boat because she and TJ just couldn't store it in their garage anymore now that they have the van and their booth. Lorelai overhears this and goes and sees Luke after the shower or whenever and says she'll store the boat -- he can't give/sell his father's boat to Kirk. Maybe she is even the one who suggests a father/daughter bonding thing. It's a great place for Luke to tell April stories of her grandfather.

ETA: And the boat is in front of the diner? And Lorelai ends up having Lane's shower at Miss. Patty's which is right across the street from the diner right? And she's at a shower with a bunch of townies correct?

Uh huh. This is such a set up.

I'm sure Craig's already on it, but here's basically a recap of the Luke/Kirk part of the DC: Kirk comes into the diner, saying the word on the street is that Luke's selling his boat. Luke says "I called you Kirk," and kirk says that he was on the street during that call and that he was surprised to hear about this turn of events. The guys go outside, and Luke says it's not a turn of events and that he just wants to sell his boat. Kirk mentions how Luke's always been really attached to the boat and that he thought that Luke would take it to his grave with him. Kirk says it would be great for water skiing and that LuLu loves that and carriages, but he guesses that Luke's just selling the boat, no carriages. Luke says it'll be $600 (including the trailer), Kirk tries to get it for $300. Luke says the price isn't going to change, Kirk tries $400. Then $590. Then $595 with a life perserver and a captain's hat thrown in. Luke says $600 and life preserver is a deal, Kirk can get his own hat, and he tells Luke to get it out of here, ASAP.

Mots, thanks for the thread! And I agree that Lorelai would be the perfect person to mention the father/daughter time with the boat. But more likely Lorelai will have nothing to do with it, even though it would be perfect, cause that's the way our luck runs this year.

there's no way Luke was planning on taking April on that boat for the summer, maybe he's giving up fixing it and planning to buy/rent one. I really hope we get a scene of Lorelai stopping him though.

Thanks, Mots.

Well, that was the Luke we know and love.

I think that maybe April sees the boat, asks about it and when she hears it was her grandfather's and her Dad had been working on it, she says that she'd like to sail it with Luke, even though she gets nauseous on the water, but NM is so dry, etc. etc. ..... Perhaps Luke then decides about the "life changes", to take the boat trip with April and that's when he calls Lorelai up asking to store his boat again.

Luke in the DC

I'm sorry I have nothing intelligent to add.

On second thought I do: Thanks, Mots!

With, you're right there, that boat is way too tiny to travel in. the only type of trip I can see with that boat is if Luke/April were to stay at some cabin off of a lake and go out in the boat a lot.

Luke doesn't seem all that interested in life changes in the DC, so something really has to hit him hard and quick soon after that scene. I'm really curious as to what it is.

Anyone else think that Lorelai looks very season 5 or 6 in the DC? It's something about the straight hair. And I just love Mrs. Kim.

Could selling the boat symbolize letting go of his past?

Thanks for the thread Mots

In WBB, Luke told Lorelai he was almost done running the rigging, (which is sailboat stuff), and when he told her progress was slow, she quipped he should've built a motor boat....and he apparently did.

Interesting DC there.
