Sadly, it seems to me unlikely there will be a season eight.
How will we ever get a satisfying closure in 4-5 episodes after a whole year's mess?

This is the first year that the secondary characters ever had to worry because of AB and LG's 7 years contracts made the show a done deal - if the show was renewed, then everyone was coming back.

This is very different situation now and I can imagine that there is a lot of anxiety on the set. I can't imagine this would go on for more than a month at this point.

I just don't think it's fair to do this to the rest of the cast and crew. Either do another season and be happy with the money they can give you or say you're done. This is the part of show business and sports that I don't like. I guess I think they all make too much money as it is and that they don't really need anymore. YMMV.

ETA: I think I'm still bitter from the baseball strike back in the 90's.

I agree but IMO they may be along further that we know even with Sassys help, look at the ratings for the demo they want, apart form AI it's kicking the other competitions butt so the CW can't afford not to get them back.

I'll second that as well. I'm almost having difficulties getting excited about the upcoming stuff because we have this big contract/re-signing thing looming over us and know that even DR doesn't know if he's writing for a season or series end. This is driving me nuts.

Part of me is just thinking that LG and AB are just going to push until they reach however much is the max that DO and the WB can give them. But the other side of me is thinking that if They were going to sign, they would have done it already.

Thanks, Nic! How can Luke find out earlier? And who else could possibly know before Babette? Taylor maybe? That would be funny... we haven't seen him much outside of town gatherings this season. It's about time for some good ol' ranting-Luke/Tayor encounters.

And how in the world is Luke going to react? Ahh... so many questions

I cannot wait to see the Emily/Lorelai scotch scene. I really really want Emily to say something encouraging to Lorelai, just once. I think she got a good look at the situation on several occasions, and I hope that she decides that she's ok with Lorelai for who she is. Maybe she'll say something like she's always admired Lorelai for the strong, independent woman that she is, that even though she shut Emily out of her life for a period of time, she is still proud of who she is and her accomplishments. Hmmm, maybe not quite that embellished, definitely not Emily-like, but something along those lines would be nice.

ETA: ITA, Melodie, I'm sick of hearing "maybe this" and "maybe that," please just make up your minds, yes or no. DSR has to be writing the final episodes about now, when will we know for sure? Because at this point, I'm all in for an 8th season and cannot begin to describe my disappointment if we don't get it. There is just no way to wrap it up this season, no matter what.

I do think they can wrap it up this season. Things actually seem to be leading in that direction on all fronts. But, that's just my view (obviously). A two hour finale could be a good way to get some things in - the first hour could be in current time; the second could be a mini-time jump - maybe like 2 or 3 months only to see where things have progressed. That is what I would hope they do.

I just can't imagine that either LG or AB are the sort of folks who would choose to keep all these people in limbo for too much longer - that would surprise me more than anything.
