I thought Lorelai showed growth tonight. Not once did she complain about herself. Not once did she try and make herself the victim. She didn't bring her problems anywhere near anyone else. Even though she was alone, she dealt with it on her own because she knew what was happening to Richard was much bigger than her and Christopher. And she complimented Rory on her relationship. I thought there was definite growth in Lorelai. Yep, she has given us a crappy 6 months, but it doesn't mean she can't come out of it and redeem herself. She was a sad, lonely woman tonight even though she is supposed to be in a loving marriage. There is no loving marriage there. She's a pitiful woman and I feel sorry for her. I just hope with the next few episodes she can find her inner strength again.

I think that's because she's had a hard time getting past his shutting her out. I think the pain is still really raw for her. Plus, it's possible that DR doesn't want Lorelai to be clearly "pining" while she's married to someone else. JMO

...She practically grew up in Stars Hollow and that shaped her into the character we knew and loved from previous seasons, but after the break-up with Luke, she started doubting everything she knew to be true to her. She was determined to try things from the perspective of what she could have been had she not run away at 17. That is why her character is so messed up... because she made herself the polar opposite in order to avoid any reminders of what could have been. Much as practically the whole CS reminds her of Luke, so does her life in SH. In an effort to be who she "could have been," she attempted to change EVERYTHING in her power... of course, as we are seeing, she could never truly let go of SH or the CS, even to be with Chris, because Chris represents a life that, subconsiously, she could never truly be a part of. Bringing him in was an effort to put up blinders to avoid evidence she couldn't put in a box.

IA. I'm glad you posted this because I saw the same thing, but was starting to doubt my perception, lol.

The only thing that bothers me, and this is from a JJ POV, is that I can see Luke's genuine love for Lorelai, even though she's married to someone else. Even though you can see it, it isn't inappropriate. However, I have a harder time seeing it from Lorelai's end. Sometimes, she acts like he's a distant friend. They lost an opportunity to have lorelai be emotional about her dad. In the hospital room. She just kind of sat aroudn and smiled. I just I am disappointed. The character's just so much better than all of this.
