Thanks for the new thread Mots.

I'm loving the posts above.

Maybe it's the cynical and disgruntled fan in me, but I'm going to say it anyway. If they continue to do this to my favorite TV couple in Season 8, then I really don't want a Season 8. I want them to work out their issues this year. I want to see them at least moved in together (and I don't even care if it's above the diner, in the crap shack or even the house E/R were buying for them) by the end of the season. And if there is a Season 8, I want LL to be a happy couple dammit and if they need to add some drama to the season, they need to focus on another couple. Because seriously?! this JJ heart can't take another roller coaster ride that I've ridden for the past year and a half!

I grant that a happy marriage might require Lorelai to shift her view and priorities somewhat, but that might be an interesting transitional process in itself. And Rory will always be a primary focus and friend for Lorelai.

I always thought the only relationship that, if resolved, could possibly end the show is Lorelai and Emily.

ETA Thanks to Mots for the spiffy new thread.

Bingo. That's what I thought too - the big IF was whether Lorelai and Emily (and Rory) would ever find a place where they could accept each other's very different lives. Not whether or not Luke could grow some balls or IF Lorelai could stay out of Chris' bed. And you're right, the charm of this show was showing small things big and big things small. Well L/L's happiness is a big freakin' zeppelin casting a huge shadow over the rest of the show, ready to crash and burn and take everybody with them. What I wouldn't give for another Bid-a-Basket moment. Or a simple arm around a shoulder because one of them were upset or scared. Or a disgusting Santa Burger. All those "little things" made up Luke and Lorelai. Not the Elusive Wedding at the End of the Series.

Ciao, love the passion you added!
Yes, that was passionate, wasn't it? If only DR who is suppose to be L/L lover would show us that much passion.

Ciao, Luke would be so proud.

ITA. And ASP found that wonderful formula, she cracked the genetic code of making people care when the big things were small and the small things big. It was working so well. I still don't get why on earth she felt the need to forsake her enchanting discovery and go the conventional way of all shows, plot wise, with the main couple.

BRAVO! I am getting more than sick of it. Are they more ****ed up than Lane and Zach? More than TJ and Liz? More than a philandering F Scott Fitzgerald Wanna-be who banged his way through Christmas break last year? I hardly think so. And yet....only L/L have to jump through ten million hoops, run through the fire-y fires of hell, walk barefoot on broken Zima bottles - before they can co-habitate, let only get married. Only Luke and Lorelai have to be PERFECT individuals before they can be happy together. Only Lorelai has to marry her childhood sweetheart before she can committ to the only man she ever loved. And only Luke has to raise a child before he can think about starting a family with the woman he loves.

This is so ****ed up. And L/L fans are being played and used, just so long as we bring the ratings. As long as we are in a relationship with L/L, if I could borrow a rant from Luke, we'll be back. At no time in television history has two people been made to suffer so endlessly and painfully for so long just to deliver a payoff that will last ten overly hyped and promoted minutes. And taking four million fans with them.

In the meantime, two twentysomethings have been annointed The Chosen Couple and will exit the show in an aura of Great Love, ready to lead the way for all the poor suckers who are incapable of having a mature relationship. Yippee. No offense to sophies here, but it's been seven years and I can't take it anymore.
Whew.
Great post! And I love the bolded part, lol So true.

I have a small rant, and this comes after skimming most of the previous main thread.

When people (specifically LL fans) say that we deserve the happy LL ending we were promised, why is it that others tend to jump in and say that we don't and that the "fictional characters" are the ones that deserve it? Is the line between fiction and reality so blurry that people can't see who really deserves closure? When the show is gone, the characters don't live on - we do.

And with that I say... we DO deserve a happy LL ending. We've waited eons for these two characters to come together (not since S5, like RL - but for 6 1/2 freaking years). We deserve a happy ending for these two characters just as much as the 2 1/2 year build up of RL - for the Sophies.

And not only do we deserve the above - we f'ing deserve a writer that's capable of bringing back the old dialogue - unlike the crap pile we've been getting this season. And NO, Mr. Ausiello - it doesn't have the same feel!

End of rant. Happy New Year!

Randomness will ensue, just a warning. Huzzah for ranting. Happy endings dominate. If I wanted depressing and over the top I'd watch Love Story. The OC got canceled and will be ending in February. Sadly enough, my Friends marathon was put on hold because VH1 has decided to ruin my life with an America's Next Top Model marathon. Speaking of which, anyone with east coast VH1 should turn it on right now because Tyra's about to have her best freak out ever. WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. HOW DARE YOU?!

Oh yeah, thanks for the new thread Mots.

There is a (small) point that an organic story shouldn't be changed purely by dictum of the fans. Of course, misleading the fans or manipulating the storyline artificially damages the integrity of a show at least as much!

I have a related beef. I don't "just want Lorelai to be happy" at the end of the series. Do I want a happy LL ending? Sure. But a satisfying conclusion to Lorelai's 7 year, 22 year, 38 year story is more important to me than her happiness. That's actually one of the reasons I really hate CL -- even if Chris had matured into a Bono/Bill Gates/Gandhi/Derek Jeter/Chippendale model combo who put his daughters first and made Lorelai blissfully happy, I wouldn't want her to be with him. Because that voids Lorelai's growth, her choices, her story, her importance, and this is her show.
