Thread Rules
  • This thread is to discuss spoilers of the show, which includes analysis and speculation of what might happen on the show, or what people would like to see happen regarding Luke and Lorelai. The thread should not be used as episode discussion thread. That should be done on the Gilmore Girls board.
  • Be respectful. Not everyone is going to agree with you at all times. It's perfectly fine to disagree with someone as long as it is done respectfully, but do not attack other posters.
  • Don't tease! If you have spoilers that you aren't able or willing to share just yet, it's inappropriate to come on the forum and tell everyone that.
  • Please note that asking and/or begging for more spoilers isn't necessary. Our sources give what they can, whenever it is possible, and when the time is right. Asking over and over again won't make them come any quicker, or any more detailed.

Feel free to discuss everything about Luke & Lorelai. Have fun posting!

I think L&L would have still broken up but they would not have been apart for so long and of course there would be no Paris eloping. Chris might have been just a friend and Lorelai would have gone to Luke's much sooner.

And damn, why do we still don´t know Santa´s secret ??? DR is good....
ITA and yes I want Santa's secret! Maybe Luke dressed as Santa for some Stars Hollow Christmas event! and someone saw Lorelai kissing Santa, maybe not, but there is always next year. Maybe with a 6 months pregnant Lorelai

It would allow Lorelai to open up about Chris, Luke, herself, and whatever else her epiphany is about without being concerned about what the person is thinking and it would let us, the viewers, really know what she's realizing.
So it could be a scene like in F&S but this time with words, I love it.

He didn't keep April from Lorelai for months, he didn't cause Lorelai to turn into a passive-aggressive shell. He didn't break down the communication lines between Luke and Lorelai. While, ultimately, he did cause the final straw to break, he had nothing to do with the actual reasons Luke and Lorelai fell apart. We can blame him for a lot, but he is not the sole responsible party for what we've suffered through in the last couple of seasons.

And this isn't meant to be a "Blame AS-P" post either.
Christopher wasn't the cause of L/L's relationship failing, but he has alot to with Lorelai's immaturity and marrying her while she was still grieving. She could never call him on his negligence and he took advantage of that. What other guy, who claimed he loved her forever, would sleep with a woman who just broke up with her fiance? He knew she was upset; did Lorelai have to beg him to bang her? I don't think so; he took advantage again of her weakness and continued the dysfunctional cycle. And this time it was HIS fault because she was an emotional wreck. He saw an opening and he took it.

I'm waiting for that ep where Christopher Haden gets his well deserved smackdown. It's long overdue. But instead of Lorelai giving it to him (I'd rather have her tell him to coldly get lost), I want Rory to do it. Rory was always the common glue Chris and Lorelai used as their excuse for their co-dependency. It would be great if Rory told Lorelai AND Chris that all she wanted - no, needed - was for them to be her parents, not married to each other.

I understand that and I'm in no way attempting to defend Christopher. I thought he was disgusting for taking advantage of Lorelai. I do blame him for that and strongly dislike him for it, but his stupidity in that particular situation was not what really caused the break up. It ultimately did, but the L's had their issues prior to it.

Basically, when LC fall apart it should be based on their own marital issues, their differences of opinion, their differences in personality. I'm probably not stating myself very clearly, I just don't think Christopher is to be blamed for everything that has happened in the last year. Blame him for his part and his part alone.

Right he deseves a smackdown but Rory is not the right person to do this.
The only thing she can do is to have a talk with her mother.
She can say: Mom i see you're not happy and dads behavior is really stupid and when you wanna leave him , do it. It's ok by me, i'll back you up.
You don't love him the way you should i can see that and i don't wanna see you unhappy for the rest of your live.
And don't think that you're failing you're not.

I think Rory's thought in this case are very importent for Lorelai and if Rory would say something like this to Lorelai, it would be a huge help for her to make her decision.

ITA - Irreconcilable differences seams to be the catch cry for most divorces.

I wonder if Lorelai will ever accuse Chris of taking advantage of her that damned "Partings" night, instead of being a true friend. She hasn't so far, only seeing it as her own mistake at the time.

Thanks for the thread, Mots.

I doubt she will, but if things get heated all bets are off, I'm thinking the reverse of ISBL when Chris told Lorelai off in the diner. Maybe Chris turns up late to the hospital or what if he's at the CS, at the end of the ep and they have a fight over why he wasn't there. Babette could hear it and the whole town would know in hours. Maybe he heard from is new best friend Jackson that Luke took Lorelai to the hospital and thus the pity party continues?

I'm also thinking Rory won't have a big talk with Lorelai about the break up before it happens but she will be upset since things are looking so good for them, so unless Rory sees something in the next 2-3 eps I think it will be a much bigger shock to Rory than L&L break up, after all it's much quicker, they are married not dating or engaged and to Rory there are no signs of trouble.

No, I don't think she will, nor do I think she should. What Lorelai has to learn here is to stop blaming Chris or Luke for her mistakes. Partings was all Lorelai's fault, from the untimatum to sleeping with Chris. the elopement was Lorelai's doing, she could have said no and not giving in. Any CL divorce will be Lorelai's fault because she doesn't love chris. Even late season six cannot be blamed all on Luke, since Lorelai should have spoken up. She's going to have to start realizing that she did a lot of this too, and not riding her choices and mistakes off on Luke's or Chris's shortcomings.
