Episode 7.10: Merry Fisticuffs

The CW: LUKE AND CHRISTOPHER COME TO BLOWS -- Luke and Lorelai share a sweet moment when Luke introduces her to Liz's new baby. Christopher witnesses the scene and it adds to his concern that Lorelai isn't fully committed to their marriage. The next day, Lorelai and Christopher get into a fight over whether they should exchange vows at the elaborate wedding party Emily is throwing for them. Luke contacts a lawyer over his custody troubles with Ana, then runs into Christopher and the two have an ugly confrontation in the streets of Stars Hollow. Meanwhile, when Logan discovers that Rory and Marty have been pretending that they just met, rather than admitting their previous friendship to Lucy, he reveals the truth to Lucy. Finally, Emily gives Lorelai a warning about her marriage.

TV Guide: Lorelai dreads each day that she meets with her mom and a prominent party planner in anticipation of the upcoming wedding party. Meanwhile, Lorelai and Christopher can't seem to agree on plans for their future, and she usually gets her way; Logan is in town and Rory takes him to the Yale cafeteria, where they run into Marty, and Rory explains the whole awkward reunion she had with Marty and their subsequent deception with Lucy; and Luke decides to talk to a lawyer about April.

Serious kudos must go out to Lorelai’s ex, Luke, for possibly his best scene ever (it’s about time he fought for something!). He gave Anna an earful and proved that not only is he worthy of Lorelai’s love, he’s completely right about his rights as a parent. After-all, it’s not as if he was an absentee dad (say, like Christopher). He never knew about April, and would have been there had he know. Mabye Luke can hire HIS ex-wife, that lawyer chick who’s name escapes me to defend him in a custody battle!

I would actually like it if they brought Nicole back to help Luke. I know they've done that to death, she cheated on him, but what if she sees him now? She's different, he's different. Come on, they've done more contrived things in the past. Ahem. Anyway, I was under the impression that her firm was powerful, and even she could pull some strings with one of them, he'd have something. However, Nicole, his exwife defending him in court, and his exfiancee Lorelai as a character witness might speak some different volumes..

Luke needs someone who's specialty is family law, and didn't Nicole practice business law?

Then just as Lorelai dumps Chris and is ready to admit her feelings to Luke we have a scene of Lorelai coming into the diner only to see Nicole come down in just the flannel shirt aka WITS, karma bites!

No that it's what it seams, they were talking about the case and she spent the night, but Luke was in the store room or couch and not in the bed! Lorelai doesn't know, this way they could stretch out the last few eps even more LOL

Yes. He is a DS fan, who gets annoyed with the LL fans. He specifically cited people from TWoP as being who he was trying to piss off with that "cover story" manip. In thanks, I don't go to his site anymore. Heh.

Yes but she could help Luke through this hard time, find a lawyer that can help him, plus he hasn't had much "female" support

over the last 6 months, why not have jealous Lorelai also.

Just wanted to say that I LOVE this spec! Oddly, my original thought when I heard about Emily giving Lorelai a "warning" about her marriage was that it would be in favor of LL (or at the very least, not in favor of L&C).

But when I came on here and invesigated a bit further it seemed that many (most?) people thought that Emily's warning would KEEP Lorelai in the marriage for awhile. And I have to admit, since it's in 7.10 and we know they are together at least a couple of eps after that, this makes sense.

However...I think that you're right and if this spec played out it would show a good deal of character growth. If done right I don't think it would be OOC at all for Emily to mention something about marriage (how just being married in general doesn't cut it, but instead the important part is to be married to that right person, perhaps? Of course this would all be said in the way that is so gloriously Emily) that makes Lorelai think.

Theoretically, just the fact that L&C are together for the next couple of eps after 7.10 doesn't have to mean that Emily is pushing Lorelai towards L&C. I mean...maybe she is, but maybe not. Basically I was just thinking that there's probably not ANYTHING Emily could say to Lorelai that would wake her up in an instant, so for all we know it could be a veiled anti-L&C "warning." This would be good character growth for Emily because while not pushing Lorelai toward Luke specifically, she would perhaps be in touch with the fact that her daughter isn't *really* happy.

This...had a point when I started.

Did I reach one? Perhaps I have to think it through further.

ETA: Wishful thinking? Maybe that's my point.

That would bit, "sock man" helping Luke out. I very much doubt any of this happens, what next Lorelai bumps into digger and they kiss in the coat room at Yale?
