Thanks for the thread, Lindsay.

Welcome, Chik1n.

I think I'll always feel dissatisfied and regret not leaving at the end of season 5. The direction telegraphed back then, along with ASP's interviews, got a lot of people's hopes up. It looked like the show would follow Lorelai, Luke and Rory to a whole new level. I'll always think that would have made an artistically complete whole, an unusually substantial and rewarding achievement for TV.

Instead, it turned into two years of destructiveness I wish I'd never seen. Followed by a last-minute reunion I didn't especially need, since it was obvious two years ago that LL would "be together after the show ends". Heck, they could have changed the ending and I'd still believe that. After they sent her to Christopher, I lost respect for the show's opinion, anyway.

We watch TV to see episodes, not to imagine them. I'm surprised we need to keep saying that. The story they served up this year was unpalatable and offensive for many viewers who'd been led to expect something different. They pulled a bait and switch - and while some didn't mind the switch, the rest of us feel played for suckers - because they weren't honest and didn't give us the choice. I regret letting them get away with destroying my good memories of Stars Hollow, it's a place I once loved and I still don't know if I'll ever be able to dissociate and forget these ugly memories enough to really get it back.

You know what is sad, we never got to see Lorelai in spandex and a tube top, and on that happy image good night...

That's the point.

And I also watched this particular tv show to enjoy and relax and be happy and dream of (as it once was). And not to ruin my nerves and be angry and sad during one and a half seasons.

The chemistry was still there - ASP decided for some insane reason - to underplay their plysical stuff last year before blowing it up - it was if she was so afraid she was gonna sink into "you're so pretty, no you're pretty" that she went too far in the other direction.

That scene in the finale captured it all - for me, it was the best moment of the finale together with Richard's saying what he did to Lorelai - full of emotion. AB just always leaves me cold and the director should have gotten her to stop with her fiddling every other second with her hair. ASP ran a tight ship, you didn't see a lot of those personal mannerisms by the actors.

If you look back on old seasons, you don't see Luke hitching up his jeans every other minute or patting his hands on his shirt or smiling as SP - she kept all that stuff at bay - and it really worked. But, man, AB after all these years - still (in my opinion) cannot emote well. She could have been talking about the laundry when she was talking about missing Logan - it didn't come off as authentic at all.

I still would have liked this episode better if they had L/L reunite in the episode before then have them both kind of nervous, excited, giddy about what it all means as they both went about doing their thing before Rory left - I wouldn't have even minded having Lorelai crash into the stage or something as an indication of her smitten kitten state of mind. It could still have been the second storyline...oh well, what's done is done.

The only scene where I wasn't taken aback by Luke laughing was in the one with Sookie - the way he softly laughs when she is getting all excited about his doing this and that Lorelai will love it - reminded me of Daisy Miller when Sookie dragged him aside to ask if he and Lorelai kissed - he uttered the same type of laugh. I knew this week in that scene that he knew why she was all excited - yay for Sookie being the L/L champion she was.

Hard to imagine having an opportunity to bring about a wonderful closure to such a beloved show and just squander the last year and throw us a few second kiss - I really do hope DR has to wait a long long long long time before he gets another gig and if there is any justice, I hope it will be on one of CW's stupid new programs.
I have been thinking the same thing all week luke and lorelai being able to connect more intatemly (sp) would have been really great storytelling and the chemistry would have just brought tears to our eyes. - what we missed out on because of the stupid storylines is upsetting because we know they can do it and we wanted to see it - that is what televeision watching is all about -- I did also loved the scene with Sookie and Luke it was very old school everything you said was brilliant - done correctly this could woulda shoulda been an incredibly year

I love the close up pic of them - what pics are you talking about Lancer

If I should make a list over which seasons I liked best, S7 would actually come before S6. So I have no problem with DSR. I do, however, have a problem with ASP and am not sure I will ever watch anything she does. Not until the series has ended LOL
DSR shouldn't have counted on a S8 has much as it seems he did, but he must have had good reason for it. So I can't, personally, blame DSR for this and I rather think that he would have made a good S8...if only...

ETA Finally watch GA season finale..Interesting!! Now with GG over and GA on hiatus, maybe I can finally catch up on LOST and House. I still need about 6-8 eps in both LOL

Small things I loved about the finale:

Luke's laugh when Patty tells him how they got the tablecloths.

Emily's familiar, "Of course we came. We're her grandparents."

Brian saying that he could squeeze through the school doors because he's skinny.

ITA and have nothing to add to your sentiments at the moment Caf, nst, cappu about needing to SEE the story and not be expected to imagine every bit of it. I'm referring to the LL story, of course, which occupied a huge chunk of the show ever since scene two. They messed it up, perhaps intended on mending it, but wasted too much precious time, so that we got barely a thing in the end.

Thank you for the last and final transcript, lancer. Thank you for them all.

But there's a "but". People see the show not as a whole, read different things into the lines, each of us can choice different favorite storyline to follow. The best example are GG threads on FF, with many sub-themes, for different shippers groups. So, when we see and interpret the things in a such different way, why can't we play the show in our imagination?

well at the same time we got to see the end with Rory and Lorelai as well as with C/L as well as with R and Emily - even with Mia and the girls - what we didn't see was L/L

well said.

i remember telling a friend that GG is different and that this is a show that will move forward so the wedding will happen in season 6. he said"no way. it'll follow the usual soap opera rules and they will mess with the couple." i defended GG. guess how i looked after we got a turtle?? guess how quiet i was after the season 6 finale??

this show had so much life. so much to give after those five years. they had a huge fanbase and great ratings and a really satisfying storyline. i still doesnt fit into my head how one person can screw up all of this with just a few episodes. ruining the maincharacters in a way where a getting back to their former selves isnt possible anymore. and i still cant believe how people let such a mistakes happen twice in leading the maincharacter into the arms of a man who always let her down and with whom she never belonged. keeping LL apart with no screentime at all wasnt much help for this poor storyline.

i still cant believe its really over forever. that 2 years went by with nothing good happening. its still kinda unreal even if its sinking in the more i think about it

If anyone is looking for a great pick-me-up episode, Forgiveness and Stuff will be on ABC family in a little bit (at least in central time). It's definitely one of my favorite episodes ever. I love the LL chemistry and interaction in that ep. Plus it has the appearance of the blue hat :-)

I also love the moment in F&S when Lorelai thanks him for the Santa burger and he says "it's no big deal" - sigh - even then his gesture were about his feelings for her and I like that the finale mirrored his numerous "it's no big deal" lines over the years.

I also loved how his numerous times saying "you're all dressed up" was his way saying he thought she looked pretty/beautiful.

I get that Lancer will miss Lorelai in that get up, what I will miss is never seeing Luke as we had to see Logan and Chris - in their boxers. (There was a scene with Chris in boxers, right? I didn't watch any of that ickiness, but I recall reading about it) Seven years and no scene like that for with Luke - just another unfair thing.

And, as weird as it is, I know there are possibilities of seeing SP in some future thing in such a state of undress but it won't do anything for me because for me my girl crush was -and is - on Luke - not SP. Very weird I admit. I mean SP seems like a nice enough person, but he doesn't trigger any reaction - not the way Luke does.

And, it really all began for me with F&S. Luke was so uncomfortable being in the hospital but he hung in there. Also, watch the way Lorelai looks at him as he walks away with Rory at the end - the first time I saw that look on her face when she looked at him.

One of my favorites!!! Emily's "You're idiots, the both of you." (Still oh-so-true, although I wish DR didn't play up the idiot in them so freakin' much this season- oh wait, that was mainly Lorelai) And when Lorelai gives Luke his blue hat And they look out the window of the diner- no, Lorelai looks out the window of the diner, Luke looks at her

Thanks for the new thread by the way! I'm starting to get sad again...

With Gilmore Girls over, I'll be left with Grey's Anatomy and Men in Trees. If you are looking for a show with a little bit of a Gilmore Girls flavor, Men in Trees might be one to try. I think they will probably rerun most of the episodes over the summer, then have a full new season starting in the fall.

Anne Heche's character Marin Frist is a fast talking, quirky New York relationship specialist who moves to Alaska after a broken engagement. James Tupper is the romantic lead who is a little bit Luke-like. The town, Elmo, Alaska is full of quirky characters. For those of you who are older, it also has a bit of a Northern Exposure vibe.

what station and when is that on? i want another show like gilmore girls!
but nothing will ever replace it!

Men in Trees is on ABC; it should be coming back in reruns this summer. I think they are going to run it on Friday nights. The new episodes are scheduled for Friday nights.

The website has a fair amount of information, even a fun blog that the writers do about the show.

Whomever mentioned Once and Again before, I loved that show too and have thought about buying it on DVD. Sela Ward is gorgeous and a terrific actress. How about a Sela Ward/Scott Patterson combo? That would be fun.
