Oh, I would love for something like that to happen. Something small, like you said - a sigh to show that she really does miss him and the friendship they shared.

I think there will be an insignificant amount. Two or three scenes, and at least one wil be short.

I can't remember if I ever posted this here; it's just some thoughts I had after the first promo(s) for 7.18 came out. Just a way to head off disappointment if there are no L/L fireworks tonight:

I do think the apologies will be sincere on both sides. I do not, however, think the scene will play like a lot of us are wanting or expecting. Everyone is looking for a huge moment where Lorelai stands (or perhaps kneels) before Luke, tears in her eyes and a catch in her voice, as she abjectly denounces everything she's done over the past year and begs Luke's forgiveness. The music on the soundtrack swells as an equally emotional Luke accepts Lorelai's apology and they throw themselves into each other's arms as the scene fades out.

It's obviously not going to happen that way. The scene is apparently going to be more low-key (although no less sincere), and it should be. A year has passed, and they've both moved on. What's important is not abject apologies, but for both of them to acknowledge to the other that they were wrong and they know they were wrong.

Also, remember that things are still tense and awkward between them at the beginning of 7.19, so this was never intended to be some huge, cathartic moment that makes everything okay between them. It is, however, a huge step in the right direction.

I don't mean significant as in the literal amount of screen time (though 3 scenes is much more than we've had all season anyway), but significant because of how it will effect their storyline. 3 scenes that show them moving forward is much more significant than one measily scene of them walking on egg shells around each other. And those 3 scenes from tonight will lead to more significant LL scenes next week, and the following week, etc. etc. etc.

You've got to start somewhere, and I'm willing to accept and enjoy what we're going to be given tonight.

Completely agree. I'm just so happy that we're moving somewhere again, I'm not going to take that for granted after the last 17 episodes of stupidity.

Re any real drama between Luke and Lorelai tonight - it's hard to have much optomism that the general blahness and lack of feeling of the whole season can change suddenly. The whole season it's been like all the characters changed from funny, vital, interesting people into emotional lightweights who are occasionaly silly but never witty or honestly funny. We've had health emergencies, a wedding and a maritial break up, a potential loss of contact with a child, etc. etc. and there's been less drama then seasons where all that happened was Rory liked Jess. Which is why I keep hoping for a season 8, maybe, maybe, the new writer's will find themselves or something!

This is all so weird. Being excited for the episode, and actually HAVING an episode. And knowing it won't be small beans, and we know what's gonna happen. AND LL will be together at least twice! And that's something. We can't set the bar TOO high, but we have reason to be excited! Definately!
