See, I don't think they should have stayed just because they could have. I think it has ended for a bunch of reasons - not just one reason. But, I do think it is possible (only possible) that they might have agreed to stay for a shortened season if the show were still the once stellar show it used to be.

Dick Van Dyke did something really remarkable way back when. He pulled "The Dick Van Dyke" show when it was at the height of its popularity and creativity. People thought he was nuts but he said he wanted the show to be remembered well and for it to end when it was at its best so people would always think of it as the pure gem it was - I'm sure that sad for the fans of the show back then, but man, in hindsight, what a concept! And, really I've never seen a dud when I've seen those old shows - they were all so good.

I can actually see GG being held up in the future as an example of what to avoid when you have a successful, well written program.

Your dad's right, that's why sometimes I think that a comparison can't be made because maybe we belong to different worlds.

I just wish AB and LG had not led people to believe there was a chance they could be swayed. If it was over for them, they should have said it MONTHS ago so the show could have a proper send off. I don't blame them, but I must say it doesn't make them look too good in my eyes. Honesty is the best policy. I wish everyone had more time to prepare for the end. But after all is said and done, I will enjoy the two episodes I have left and be grateful that there is some kind of reconciliation between Luke and Lorelai. Yes, still in my zen place today. I will probably save my sadness until the end hits me between the eyes next week.

Yes, I do agree that the lower ratings and all the articles written about how the show should end this season did have some effect too. The shows were getting better, but they still weren't as good as they used to be. Perhaps as some have said the show should have ended at the end of season 5. It began to go downhill last year so I can't put all the blame on DR and the loss of ASP as some articles do because she was no great shakes last season in the writing department either. Perhaps it is simply the best time to end the show for many reasons, as clmorrow so aptly put it.

What do you mean? Because GG wasn't "winning"? It's the CW's highest show.
The last 5 episodes have been great. They finally let go of a losing storyline and had a chance to fix the mistakes they made this season. I don't think the "journey" as DSR put it was ever finished. JMO.

Well, I apparantly can't stay pissed off that long at LG, because that woman has no shame ... and I kind of like that ... Of course referring to the guitar fiasco bit

I have uploaded the clip Canopus provided to YouTube: Lauren Graham Ellen 08-05-07

Thanks again Canopus!

So . . . .

I'm still waiting to see if anyone's going to write a smutfic about Luke and Lorelai's summer boat trip up the coast of Maine.

She really tries to not put the blame on anyone, and say something good about the way the show's ending. But it's clear that while it may be a great season finale, and I agree,it's a terrible series' finale, as she sort of admits it,at the same time that she tries to be diplomatic.

And I agree that it was all CW doing. The fact that the girls didn't say since the beginning that they weren't coming back, shows that there was a great possibility for them to come back, but obviously with better conditions. CW apparently didn't agree with them, and canceled it.

At a certain point the CW probably realized that they couldn't afford to spend that kind of cash on a show whose ratings were sliding. The girls changing their demands every time a tentative agreement was reached doesn't help. I don't blame them for drawing a line in the sand at some point and saying no. It sets a bad precedent when you let the actors think they call the shots from a business point of view. I don't think either side was right or wrong. They were both doing what they felt needed to be done from their respective points of view. It's just a shame that the fans are the losers.

Thanks for the video, canopus and blaab

Don't know if this will make any difference, but SassyPaws posted this at TWoP. I find the last part particularly satisfying:

Quote:
Apparently the girls were under the impression that the advertisers had threatened the CW with withdrawing all network ad money if they did not deliver Gilmore's coveted females teen audience. That led the girls to believe that they had the backing of the advertisers and could force the network do anything they wanted. They greatly miscalculated since apparently the advertisers are really pleased with the crop of new pilots and, though they like GG, they aren’t that concern with its demise.
Despite the public persona that has been presented by Lauren, according to my sources, she was totally shocked when the network ended negotiations and is not happy at all with the fallout that is rippling through Hollywood.
