Seeing that Rory graduated valedictorian from Chilton, it seems it would make more sense for her to dream of somehow being told she wasn't graduating from Yale.

But maybe she's feeling like a failure from her days of dreaming to be a "political reporter" at Chilton, oh wait, no, that was a correspondent in war torn countries like Christiane Amanpour.

They can't consistently write for one of the major characters, that is if they're still viewing Rory as a major character. No wonder they're finding it too complicated to actually write for this character as someone who is in a serious relationship having the relationship and a career.

IMO this is how Rory ends up in bed at the CS in the promo.

She doesn't want to stay while Paris and Doyle "make up" so goes home to SH. Has the dread and next morning tells Lorelai.

She's always been driven, a high achiever, and her mother and grandparents gave so much so that she could begin to pursue her dreams at Chilton. Her dream about being kicked out of Chilton perhaps symbolizes how she feels that she's failed them, failed everyone's high hopes. That Chilton (and Yale) was all for naught. (She tells Lorelai in the promo: "I disappointed everyone.")

What kind of upsets me is that this is another career/future "crisis" in Rory's life this season, and Logan won't be in the episode to be with her or show her any comfort. I haven't seen much of this (except for 7.13, but that was about Richard). When she stepped down as YDN editor and had the melt-down from that--we didn't see her talk to Logan about that or what he might have told her. Anyway, I kind of wish we could have a scene in 7.20 where Rory tells Logan the news about not getting the NYT fellowship.

Actually, Rory was indeed kicked out of a class at Chilton. It was the episode The Deer Hunters, where Headmaster Charleston compared Chilton to the real world, and said that maybe that place wasn't for Rory. At the end Lorelai was also suggesting Rory to come back to her old school and Rory asked if her mother didn't believe she could succeed there.

It all comes back to that. Her doubts that she can make it in the real world, or that she can make it at all, period.

nola, I think it means that Gravity could be picked up for midseason 2008, with MC in the cast.

If that is true, probably Matt wouldn't be looking for another new show before that and could stay with GG for a shortened season, if that's DR plan.

But that is me guessing. Jason, Captain or other who understand more about those things could explain better.

That's all I get out of it, too. I'm not sure what the 14 - 20 minute presentation means. I think at least some of it (mid-season) is new information.

The pilot had been put on a back-burner so it could make it to the mid-season replacement stage if it goes forward again. As of a couple of weeks ago, no pilot had been shot for it though.

thanks for clarifying gb, christine and gossipcom. I'm speccing that we probably won't hear about MC signing on for S8 until after 7.21....i think dr&co. don't want us to know one way or the other about MC's status before the break-up scene.

nola I agree with you there - plus I think they'll be trying to work out the type of contracts they managed to get the others signed to so they can plan the season around them then work out one for MC if necessary.
