Sophies

In Episode 5.03, Written in the Stars, Logan tells Rory that she should call him "Master and Commander."

Master and Commander is the first of Patrick O'Brian's novels about Jack Aubrey. Sophie is the square-rigged ship that Aubrey is Master and Commander of, and those who crew in her refer to themselves as Sophies. It is the ship where Jack Aubrey first makes his name.

So, it is in this spirit that those who ship the Master and Commander and His Lady are known as: Sophies.

"Lorelai? Lorelai?"
With graduation looming, Rory is anxiety-ridden over her future, so Lorelai tries to cheer her up with a day of eating and shopping.

Lorelai notices happily that Luke is once again wearing the baseball cap she gave him, and invites him to join her and Rory for karaoke night at a local bar. After a few drinks, Lorelai takes the stage to sing a heartfelt number which is obviously directed at Luke.

Logan returns from a business trip to California and comes to see Lorelai to discuss his future with Rory.

"Unto The Breach"
On the eve of Rory's graduation, Emily and Richard throw her a party and perform a song in her honor. At the party, Lorelai and Christopher are reunited for the first time since their separation, and both are relieved to find they can still be friends.

Logan surprises everyone at the party by proposing to Rory, but she is too shocked to give him an answer and begs Lorelai to help her decide what to do.

On graduation day, Rory and Paris receive their diplomas, and Rory finally gives Logan her answer. What do you think she'll say? Meanwhile, Lorelai is embarrassed about her karaoke serenade to Luke the night before, and Luke is hurt when he overhears her saying it didn't mean anything.

TVGuide: Richard and Emily throw a party for Rory on the night before graduation, and they perform a song for her. At the party, Lorelai reunites with Christopher for the first time since their breakup; and Logan surprises Rory with a big question that she waits until graduation day to answer. Also, Luke is hurt by something he overhears Lorelai saying regarding him.

Just as Rory lands her dream job as a political reporter, Luke enlists the help of everyone in Stars Hollow to throw her a graduation party. Emily and Richard attend the huge party, where Rory makes a speech thanking Lorelai and the whole town for giving her such a great start in life. Luke's thoughtfulness brings out an unexpected reaction from Lorelai.

Finally, on the morning that Rory leaves Stars Hollow to start her career, Luke opens the diner before dawn to share a celebratory breakfast with the Gilmore girls. CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour makes a cameo appearance as a guest at the Dragonfly Inn.

From Nicolalala: Rory is going to Iowa. She gets a job with an online magazine. She'll be following Barack Obama on the campaign trail.. Lorelai cancels Rory's party, but Luke plans it as a surprise.

sportygirl at TWOP: So my sources tell me that Ausiello is correct and that the show WILL be coming back for an 8th Season. There will be a pick up for 22 episodes, but Lauren and Alexis will have the right to opt out after 13 episodes (which, if they do opt out, means that most likely the CW would have the right to cut back its order from Warner Bros. because who wants a show without the girls?). Also, DR will be back as showrunner, despite the concensus being that he has not done a great job this year (big fat "duh" on that one).

Ausiello Report: Lauren Graham is allegedly warming to the idea of returning for a shortened season

From SassyPaws: "... a season 8 looks more likely than not at this point..." Craig @ FanBolt: CW not giving up on the show, though part of the cast doesn't want to come back.

When the scene starts though it looks like Rory is already agitated because she's walking super fast and trying to get ahead of him and it looks like she's irritated with him. Then they make their way to a horse and carriage with two white horses. I'm guessing Logan got it for her as part of the proposal or in case she decided to say yes. They did this scene a few times, sometimes the scene seemed to have them both angry, and some of the takes seemed more mellow, even including a smile or two. There is a ring box, it was hard to see at first but it looked like at first Logan has it, then he takes Rory's hands and hands it to Rory, and then at the end she hands it back (though a few times I think Alexis still had it when the scene ended).

Kristin in E!Online interviews Matt Czuchry: He thinks that Rory and Logan's storyline would resonate with young adults because it highlights the tension of Logan taking on his family responsibilities, and Rory finding out what she wants for herself professionally. He thinks Rory should remain single if this were the last season [in reaction to Kristin's comment about a "big Rory and Logan wedding"].

From GGMinn: Rory will have no new love interest.

Alan Sepinwall of The Star Ledger chats with DR at the CW party: "The first part of the season is (Logan and Rory) trying to deal with a long-distance relationship. Something will come and change that."

Maureen Ryan of The Chicago Tribune quotes Dave Rosenthal: "We have the benefit of seeing the future and knowing where we want to take them. So while something may be disturbing in the short run, or upsetting or confusing to a fan, we as the writers recognize that, yes, that’s upsetting but ultimately that's the journey that this character has to go on, they're required to do this or that...ultimately we're interested in personal growth. Obviously if characters never went through difficult times or never suffered, or had to face obstacles it would be hard for them to grow."

I was reading the episode discussion thread and I don't understand why people liked this episode, some praised Paris. Are they watching the same show?

If they're unspoiled, they're going to keep thinking Rory will stay with Logan, according to Paris's storyline, so in that since, yes, it is the same show.

If they do know, it's hard not to be mad at Rory, because we see Paris starting on her next journey with her man; it's hard to know that Rory will not do that.

Because, Paris was old school tonight. All kinds of awesome. "Bite me, Harvard!" Who would expect Rory to actually process this situation as a reason to break up with Logan? After all, Paris was not happy at all, when she didn't have Doyle. And the spoiler free don't know what is coming. Was it Liane who said this is going to be fallout from not getting the Reston? I think that is how they are going to play it. Like, she gambled on getting that and it didn't work out. So, she is now too paranoid to gamble on Logan. Silly twit.

eta: Jason, I had the same thought about Logan just being tired of dealing. It has been pointed out more than once that he has generally been the one to prod Rory along, and to make the effort, especially in season 6. And I don't even think they are setting him up to look like the villain of the piece, because he is doing everything by the book, from what we know so far.

She's an incredibly silly twit. Again, if she does not gamble on Logan. Logan should leave and never come back. She does not DESERVE HIM! She does not deserve love! She deserves to be miserable and alone. Good for her. The jackass.

ETA: Oh yeah...this is my silly suggestion for the night episode 21 airs. We should ALL have Logan avatars. If the writers are going to use silly JJ logic that night. We might as well use silly JJ tactics, and all have LOGAN avatars not Rory and Logan avatars. It will be our little small bit of support for a character getting this hosed.

I can definitely see this happening. Silly twit, indeed.

Yeah, that was me. And judging from the promo of 7.20, it seems that Rory is all messed up and regretful that she didn't just accept the Providence offer, that she took this "gamble". She perceives her career as standing on shaky ground--she certainly didn't get the kind of offers that Paris did--so she is unable to "factor" Logan in. On the other hand, Logan may have gotten the job in SF. But seeing as she's become insecure about her career prospects, she's not about to follow him (and take another gamble on her career).

In the end, we know that she'll be covering Obama. As Captain pointed out, hardly a "rookie" or dead-end job. She'll hang on to that for dear life, given the fall-out of the NYT Fellowship, ProJo, and her other applications.
