I kinda wish they grew up together, just because their bond was so damn cute. But I guess if he's a secret relative there's more storyline to milk.

Well, it doesn't work for me. A wake-up to her feelings for him being romantic. Even if she hadn't had a serious boyfriend, she'd dated before. She was going on dates before he went into a coma so she knew the difference between being romantically interested in someone than not. So that should have woken her up the fact that those feelings for Barry were romantic. She doesn't need him to tell her that he loves her for her to realize it when she once saw him almost die.

His backstory sounds more like Victor Stone/Cyborg: 1) High School athlete = he was a football player. 2) Connected to S.T.A.R. Labs = his parents were scientists at S.T.A.R. Labs who experimented on him to augment his intelligence. He went into athletics instead as a way to rebel against what his parents were doing. His father turned Victor into "Cyborg" when Vic was badly injured in a lab accident while visiting (read: confronting) his father at work (in the TV show, the "accident" could be the particle accelerator explosion).

I know Cyborg is supposed to be in the DC movies and may not be "allowed" on TV, but the backstory description fits him perfectly.
