Peter begins a relationship with Mia and a friendship with Riley. Finding a balance between a new girlfriend and a new guy friend gets confusing, especially when Riley is suddenly kissing Peter. Holly J has all her ducks in line, until, she learns her parents in real financial turmoil so no more rides to school. Also, from now on, brown bag lunches, and no more trips to the mall. Desperate to keep up her top dog appearance and appease her financial crisis, Holly J spills her guts to Spinner in order to land a job at The Dot (despite her atrocious waitressing skills). Hurt by her family’s struggle, Holly J lashes out at Mia and plans to destroy her new glam status. Mia’s secret about Tom has landed in Holly J’s hands, and she’s thinking of sharing it with the world.
Things are close to perfect for Peter who is happily enjoying the band, Mia, and his pad. Until, Ms. Hatzilakos unexpectedly drops in for a visit. Part 1: Spinner and Jane have plans for next year – she’ll start pre-law and he’ll attend police college. When he doesn’t get in, he can’t bear to tell her, so he lies. Jane catches him and starts to wonder if her future includes him.
Clare gets invited to the dance by K.C. AND Connor. When it looks like their struggle for her attention will jeopardize Robot Wars, she decides to go with neither.

Riley’s the star of Degrassi’s first ever football game win! Shep is floored at how much Riley’s improved. Things seem like they can’t get any better for Riley, except for the fact that he’s keeping some serious secrets. Not only is he repressing the fact that he’s gay, Riley is also using anabolic steroids. He uses them and girls to complete his “real man” image but when his social life leaves him unsatisfied, he is driven to take more steroids as an “antidote” to his gayness. With the steroids’ side effects ramping up – Riley begins to lose his temper and acts out at school. Will he be able to maintain this straight jock persona he’s created? Or will his efforts to be someone else lead him to crash into his true self and hurt the people he cares about?

We had the first read-through for Season 8 yesterday--it was emotional seeing some of our favourite returning actors--and there are a set of new actors as well who are going to be great... we start shooting in just over two weeks... it's been incredibly busy getting everything set up over the past while, but the scripts are starting to really come together...

In answer to a question, there will be at least 18 episodes in Season 8 but there may be 22 episodes... we're working on it--if it's 22 episodes the last four will be **special**!!

We're shooting the new Season 8 opening title sequence for Degrassi next week... we've just been planning and storyboarding the concept... and the director did a demo by using a MiniDV to tape some of the office staff pretending to be the actors, in various sets, just to get a quick sense of the length of each sequence, and how the final opening will look once the real filming happens and it's all edited together... we're toying with the idea of reintroducing the vocals to the music track... whatever it takes! ps for anyone who is interested in Janny, you'll just have to keep watching... life sometimes delivers us twists and turns... what one day seems in one direction, may on a different day not look quite the same...

We're going to try some different approaches to the theme song, maybe speed up the tempo and use a male voice or voices, don't know if or how it will work, we'll see... the shooting of the opening went really well today!

Tomorrow is a holiday in Canada, and we've been on hiatus--but back again on Wednesday shooting 808/809 (Lost in Love parts 1 and 2). Yes, you read right, 808/809. What happened to 807 you might ask?? well it will be shot next along with 810. We wanted 808/809 to be a two-parter (you'll see when it gets aired) and so we wanted the same director to shoot both, hence the slightly odd scheduling... wait a minute--does the title Lost in Love remind anyone of Valentine's Day??? hmmmm....

We're still working on the opening... you will find that there are subtle (and not so subtle) homages to the past--think Season 5 but modernized!! The theme will definitely have a vocal track, and we are still trying to figure out whether to go with a male vocal (possibly with a female background) or a female vocal (possibly with a male background)... we've even had one of the cast members singing part of the theme.. looking forward to making the decisions and putting it all together!
btw to help figure out the timing of the opening before we actually shot it, the director did a quick mockup by using a camcorder to shoot some of our office staff (including my son Max) acting out the opening. After you see the real opening I'll try to post that demo, you'll find it pretty amusing!!!

Here's an up-to-date list of episodes this year (all subject to change of course!). For logistical reasons we are shooting a number of episodes out of order, so I've put the list below in the actual order we will shoot them in, but with the correct episode number as they will be broadcast.
For those who have asked, no 808/809 are not Valentine's Day episodes, although they will be Valentine's Day-like (i.e. the Degrassi time frame for them is not February, but the subject matter will be particularly appropriate to be broadcast in February!!)

Meanwhile back at the Epitome studios we're in the middle of a hiatus on Degrassi, and will start shooting again in September with the special four-part series of episodes, some of which will be shot in Hollywood... these episodes are being shot out of order due to performer availability, and will be the final four episodes of Season 8... they are set over the winter school break...

Tuesday we start shooting the four-part special episodes, that will also be combined together and versioned as a two-hour movie... as already reported on some sites, it will be Hollywood-themed, and will feature Paige, Manny, Jay, Craig, Ellie, Marco, Peter, Mia, Emma, alongside many other members of the cast... as well as featuring some very interesting additional actors...

It's quite funny seeing the rushes--with Marco shoveling snow (as he talks ont he phone to Paige)--it looks so real, but of course it was hot and humid outside really!!!

Yes, about 10 hours away now.. Canada gets to see the first episode first, but then on Friday The N is going to broadcast the first two episodes as an hour-long, so they'll be ahead again, but then next Sunday Canada will catch up!
The Sunday after will be 803 (which is an amazing episode), and then the following Sunday instead of 804 (which will run a week later) it will be "The Curse of Degrassi" Halloween special!
More characters than have been listed will be appearing throughout the year.. fan reaction to the new season is going to be very interesting!!!
GENERAL SPOILERS:
• One character will have Asperger's Disorder. It will not be revealed right away. Half way through the season HE will be diagnosed. Linda would like to do for Asperger's what was done for the gay character - "trying to put a human face to what other people would call weird or stupid or not right."
• There will be a new principal, "The Shep"
• They are NOT writing or planning it as the last season.
• They will be showing us a whole new perspective on college life; she mentioned sororities & fraternities and gave the impression that they will be following the kids at their separate schools. They will be dealing with the pressures of dorm life as opposed to Marco, Ellie, and Paige, who lived in their own apartment in Seasons 6 and 7.
• If I caught her correctly she also said that Sarah was filming all last week (June 8-14th) , and Stacey definitely had scenes today (June 17th) since she was at the studio.
• They will be introducing new grade 9's. A couple of the new characters will be siblings to established characters.

• Allia "Alli" Bhandari - Grade 9 (14-years-old): Known as "Sav's Little Sister," "Our Little Genius" or "Backwoods Bhandari," Allie is tired of being labeled. She has never felt like she fits in anywhere ... not at home with her conservative parents or at school in her gifted programs. All Alli wants is a normal high school experience -- although she's not entirely sure what that is. She knows it includes more fun and at least one cute boy and she knows she needs to deceive her parents in order to have it. Sometimes Alli goes too far in her quest to be like everyone else and it gets her into trouble. But she's always been able to get herself out of it -- so far.

• Leia - Grade 11 (16-years-old): Shy and insecure, Leia arrives at Degrassi not knowing anyone. She hopes that her demeanor will be interpreted as cool and aloof. Never afraid to speak his mind, Lucas’ sharp tongue gets him in as much trouble as his quick fists. • Emma Nelson – Smithdale University (18-years-old) - Emma has graduated and is off to Smithdale with her best friend Manny. Away from home and a small fish in a very large pond, Emma looks to bolster her confidence in some very unlikely ways. Embracing a more casual lifestyle, Emma hooks up with her roommate Kelly and finds herself involved in a whole new kind of extracurricular activity. (CTV Media)
• Jimmy Brooks – Hudson University (19-years-old) - Jimmy’s finally in a good place. He’s forgiven Spinner and has his best friend back. Jimmy’s really come into his own and moving on with his life. Now that he’s put aside his anger over the shooting, his future is bright. He is going to work at walking again and nothing will keep him and Trina apart. He has his eye on the prize. (CTV Media)
• Gavin “Spinner” Mason – The Dot Manager (19-years-old) - Spinner may not be the smartest kid from Degrassi, but he’s got big post-grad plans for himself and girlfriend Jane. He’s trying to get into Police College next year while Jane’s doing pre-law but for the present will manage The Dot. After all the challenges he went through last year, overcoming cancer and finally graduating, nothing can stop Spinner from attaining his goals and achieving happiness… but sometimes Spinner is Spinner’s worst enemy. • Jay Hogart – Mechanic (19-years-old) - Jay’s always been a bad ass who’s only looking out for number one but last year we saw a much softer side of Jay… a Jay that can be loving and sincere. So he replaced Manny’s college demo reel with an x-rated one that he and Manny made. So he stole the company tow truck and landed in jail. So he stole the engagement ring back from the pawn shop. So maybe things don’t change. Is Jay just trouble, or can he be redeemed? (CTV Media)
• Archie “Snake” Simpson (35-years-old) - Snake had it tough last year when he had to win his way back into the hearts of his students after, against his better judgement, he provided comfort to Darcy, putting his entire career and life in jeopardy. When rumours of inappropriate behaviour circulated, Simpson was forced to leave school and was a complete mess. Now cleared of all suspicion, he must maintain a very clear path and concentrate on teaching. When the new Principal comes in and screws with the new gifted program, Snake feels he must step up… but carefully. (CTV Media)
• "The Shep" (40-years-old) - "tough new principal and football coach."
- "Degrassi's new principal 'The Shep' Sheppard was everything that was wrong with Lakehurst. More interested in being loved by his students than giving them the best educational experience, The Shep favours the popular crowd and does everything to promote his image as 'the party principal.' The Shep supports the school's athletes at all costs, even at the expense of Degrassi's academic programs. Worst of all, in any kind of dispute, he sides with the popular crowd or former Lakehurst kids over the less socially comfortable students and even without provocation might pick on those he calls 'special', in the hopes of 'toughening them up for the real world.'"
