CTV's internationally acclaimed and multiple award-winning original series Degrassi: The Next Generation returns to the Fall schedule for its fourth season; promising the most provocative and life altering story-lines ever.

A special one-hour season premiere episode will debut Tuesday, September 7 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings). Pre-empted the following week, the series will air back-to-back episodes (8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) on Sept. 21 and again on Sept. 28 before settling into its regular 8:30 p.m. ET timeslot beginning Oct. 5. That's when Degrassi will air in tandem with CTV's other original half hour hit, Corner Gas (Tuesdays at 8 pm.).

Last year, Degrassi was the most-watched all-Canadian drama series (2+) and the most watched Canadian drama amongst Adults 18-49 (Source: BBM). This year, the benchmark has been raised. The program's most provocative season yet promises to delve deeper into storylines and showcase the cast as they deal with the most challenging situations to date. In the one-hour season premiere special, it's a new year and Paige is called to testify in her rape case. Emotions run high as she must confront her attacker face to face. Meanwhile, family ties are put to the test when Craig receives an unexpected birthday present from his late father.

"We're very proud of Degrassi and the position it's taken in the Canadian television landscape over the last three seasons," said Susanne Boyce, President of Programming for CTV and Chair of the Media Group. "The program continues to push the envelope and we wouldn't have it any other way."

Returning cast regulars are Sarah Barrable-Tishauer as Liberty; John Bregar as Dylan; Deanna Casaluce as Alex; Daniel Clark as Sean; Lauren Collins as Paige; Ryan Cooley as JT; Ephraim Ellis as Rick; Jake Epstein as Craig; Stacey Farber as Ellie; Jake Goldsbie as Toby; Aubrey Graham as Jimmy; Shane Kippel as Spinner; Andrea Lewis as Hazel; Mike Lobel as Jay; Miriam McDonald as Emma; Melissa McIntyre as Ashley; Daniel Morrison as Chris Sharpe; Adamo Ruggiero as Marco; and Cassie Steele as Manny.

Returning Classic Cast members are Stefan Brogren as Archie "Snake" Simpson; Pat Mastroianni as Joey Jeremiah; Stacie Mistysyn as Joey's high-school flame, Caitlin Ryan; and Amanda Stepto as Snake's missus, Christine "Spike" Nelson.

Well Etalk Daily just confirmed that our Very Special Guest is indeed Kevin Smith (not that it was a very well-kept secret!)
For those of you who are unfamilair with him, here is a mini-bio. He has always been an ENORMOUS Degrassi fan.
Born and raised in New Jersey and very proud of it, this fact can be seen in all of his movies. His first movie, Clerks. (1994), was filmed in the convenience store in which Smith worked (and in which he used to watch a youth show on PBS called--Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High)(It features a character named Caitlin, named after the Caitlin character on Degrassi.). He was only allowed to shoot at night after the store closed. This movie won the highest award at the Sundance film festival and was brought to theaters by Miramax. The movie went over so well that Smith was able to make another movie, Mallrats (1995). This movie, as Kevin has said, was meant to be a "smart Porkys". Although it didn’t do well at all in the box office, it has done more then well on video store shelves and is usually the favorite among many Smith fans. During filming for the movie Smith met his new close friends and stars of his next movie, Ben Affleck and 'Jason Lee' and his new girlfriend, Joey Lauren Adams. Smith has said that his relationship with Adams has been much of an inspiration for his next movie, Chasing Amy (1997), Smith's comedy drama which won a few independent spirit awards (and which featureas a character sporting a Degrassi jacket.). Around the time that Chasing Amy was wrapping, Smith broke up with Adams, and then when the spirit awards were approaching he met his soon-to-be wife, 'Jennifer Schwalbach' . After Chasing Amy, Smith started on Dogma (1999), a controversial film about Christianity. Around this time Smith's wife gave birth to their first baby girl, Harley Quinn Smith. Harley Quinn and Jennifer both have roles in Smith’s next and newest film, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001). In this road trip comedy, the cult heroes, Jay and Silent Bob go on an adventure to stop the production of a movie being made about them, find true love, and save their monkey.

Smith also has written scripts for such comics as Daredevil and Green Arrow. He also wrote a script for a new Superman movie but decided to leave the project. Smith has three more movies in the works for the next couple of years and has opened a comic book store, has a production company, writes articles for Arena magazine, and does short films for the Leno show. He has accomplished so much and he has only been around since 1994

Man, what a busy week. Kevin Smith was in town (he's gone again now, but will be back in a couple of weeks for the filming of 421 and 422), and there was a ton of press coverage of that... The good folks from Noggin were in town, and we were talking with them and CTV about a whole bunch of Degrassi stuff including what might happen in Season 5... There was a reporter from a really big American magazine in town for a couple of days interviewing everyone for a major spread... meanwhile we were in the recording studio with Alexz Johnson working on the Instant Star album... and making plans for the possibility of yet another major star in the season finale to Degrassi (I mean in addition to Kevin Smith and Jayson Mewes who as you know will be reprising their roles as Jay and Silent Bob in the final three episodes of the season)... and we've packed off another group of the cast to Vancouver for this weekend's mall tour.... and plans for a picture book all about Degrassi planned for release next fall have taken a huge leap forward... all in all a pretty busy week!!! (oh yeah and we shot episodes 419 and 420 while all this was happening!!)

I have just returned from being down in L.A. again (second time in less than a week!) had lunch with Kevin Smith and some others down there and also saw an amazing concert featuring Brian Wilson... meanwhile here we have just wrapped filming of Instant Star 109 and 110 and next week Kevin and Jayson Mewes are in town for the filming of Degrassi 421/422!!!

Oh and I should have noted a couple of scheduling items on CTV. This coming Tuesday we are pre-empted (I think there is a Paris Hilton special or somethng like that) so the next episode on CTV is November 23rd (Bark At The Moon). The next two weeks will be the Secrets Parts 1 and 2 which because it's secret I can't say too much about except that it's about an issue that is not normally discussed openly on television, they are dynamite episodes, so be sure to watch them!
Then another programming note, during the final week or so of the year (or sometime around then) there will be a Degrassi marathon of reruns of episodes from last season, every night of the week (well not including weekends)!!

Hard to believe but we are down to our final three days of shooting Degrassi this year!!
Well, actually we will be doing some additional shooting on Friday for a couple of hours when normally we would be shooting Instant Star (we start the final three episodes of Instant Star on Thursday) because of a special guest for Degrassi who couldn't make it until Friday--I'll wait to let you know who it is until after it's filmed but it is someone really special!
Today we are shooting both in the studio and also some exterior on our backlot--it's sunny but very cool here today, hopefully we won't see the actors' breath, but it is cool enough that might be the case!
Oh, and EPIgrrl is back from down under woohoo!!

Yes, since eTalk has already announced it I can confirm it's true.
Alanis Morrissette will be playing the role of both herself, and of herself playing the Principal at Edmund Fizgerald High School which is the made-up high school that Jay and Silent Bob go to in the film-within-a-tv-show that is the final episode of Degrassi Season 4. Pretty fun stuff!!

Today was mostly an Instant Star day (now that we have completed filming of Degrassi for this season)--we had a meeting about the Instant Star website which will probably go live in about 4 weeks--it's looking great. A ton of work has already been done on it. There will be lots of contests, and if you are registered on degrassi.tv (which of course you are, otherwise you couldn't be reading this!) then you will be automatically registered on instantstar.com using the exact same name and password... and it will be easy to go back and forth between the two sites.
Then this afternoon we completed the sound mix for episode 105 of Instant Star--meanwhile back at the studio we were shooting episodes 111 and 113 of Instant Star (we're shooting out of order, so we will shoot 112 at the end).
BUT that doesn't mean we're not working hard on Degrassi!! We are holding brainstorming sessions already to start the stories for 501/502, and we're still editing and doing all the sound and music design for the final Degassi episodes of this season... AND working on some secret Degrassi projects for next year!!
Looking forward to getting our American friends back to seeing new episodes of Degrassi...

We'll be interested in the reactions to Secret Part 1 and Part 2. The 'secret' relates to oral sex, which is not something that is often dealt with on television--but it is important that it be dealt with honestly and authentically and that is what we have tried to do!

Anyone on msn or any other similar service who claims to be Cassie Steele or anyone else on Degrassi is NOT. Our cast do not make their email addresses available to anyone except their closest friends--and they would never say that they were on Degrassi (it would open a flood of emails that would clog their mail servers).

Someone mentioned that Degrassi is moving to Monday in January--that is partly true BUT the first two Tuesdays in January Degrassi will remain in its normal Tuesday 8:30 timeslot. It is on Monday January 17th that Degrassi moves to 8:30 on Monday on CTV... it will stay there for the rest of the season...

Tomorrow we do the sound mix on episode 420 which is the first episode Kevin Smith appears in... it's a good one!!

Time Stands Still last Friday got the highest ratings ever in the history of The N...

And starting Saturday for two weeks I'll be on a holiday at an undisclosed location somewhere really realy really warm... so you won't see too much of me on here during that time, although if I find an Internet cafe nearly where we are staying I will try to check in from time to time!!!

Paige falls for a new teaching assistant; Craig asks Ashley to join the band.

Craig and Ashley get back together, despite their own concerns and those of some of their closest friends. With Craig's band Downtown Sasquatch floundering without Jimmy, and their recording date just days away, Craig turns to Ashley for input. This completely rubs bandmates Spinner and Marco the wrong way, making them feel like Craig has taken over the process. And they also suspect that, despite Craig's denial, he and Ashley will get back together. Similarly, when Ashley tells Ellie that she and Craig might get together, Ellie offers her straightforward opinion that "guys suck." At the backs of their minds, both Craig and Ashley - especially Ashley - know that getting back together might be too risky for their friendship. But, when the band is in the studio, after Craig bowed to Spinner and Marco's pressure and kicked Ashley out, the lyrics for the song they're recording, "Everything Is Dust" brings everything into sharp focus for Craig. It's all about Ashley. He ditches the band, tracks Ashley down, and lays it all on the line for her. He wants to be with her. Lucky for Craig, the feeling is mutual.

4.11 Voices Carry Part 1

Craig gets carried away over Ashley's father's wedding.

Craig is overwhelmed by his feelings of love for Ashley. Since they got back together as a couple, Craig has made Ashley the centre of his universe, even giving her priority over his music and his band. Ashley wants to believe the best in Craig, and she is convinced that Craig has changed. She has forgiven him for breaking her heart, despite what her mother thinks. Craig rents a hotel room, where he and Ashley finally say "I love you" to each other, before doing what people in love do together.
Then, suddenly, Craig decides that he must propose to Ashley immediately. When he does, at Ashley's dad's wedding rehearsal party, Ashley is shocked. She admits that she can't just marry Craig on the spur of the moment. She doesn't want to move their relationship along as quickly as Craig does. Feeling rejected, Craig goes back to the hotel, where, in a fit of frustration, he trashes his room.
Meanwhile, Ashley tries to call him. Is she reconsidering Craig's offer, or is she just concerned for Craig's well-being? We'll have to wait to find out!

4.12 Voices Carry Part 2

Craig's medical condition; Liberty and JT kiss.

Craig battles with his inner demons. He rides a rollercoaster of emotions from having his spontaneous marriage proposal to Ashley rejected, then accepted, then announcing their engagement at Ashley's dad's wedding, which embarrasses Ashley. Ashley calls off the engagement, sending Craig into a fit, in which he confronts Ashley's mom, dad, and her dad's new husband, makes a scene at the wedding, then goes home, where Joey confronts Craig about his missing credit card. Craig loses all self control and, as he pummels Joey in a rage, Ashley enters to break it up. Both Joey and Ashley know that there is something wrong with Craig; this behaviour is out of character even for him, and they help Craig get the help he needs. He is hospitalized, diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, and by the end of the episode he has begun treatment for his condition. Ashley understands that Craig's outburst was the result of his sickness, and she promises to stay with him. It appears that Craig is the unfortunate victim of mental illness, and everyone close to him is giving him the support he needs.

4.13 Bark at the Moon

Manny moons after a new student, much to Spinner's dismay while Paige schemes to find time alone with Matt.

Manny resists Spinner's desire to make their relationship "official." For a while the two of them had been flirting, but now Spinner wants more than a girl-who-is-a-friend. The problem is, Manny isn't so sure she wants them to have a real boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Both of their lives have been complicated recently, with Manny's recent breakup with JT, her past with Craig and her abortion still haunting her, not to mention Spinner's recent nasty breakup with Paige. Spinner accuses Manny of not being over Craig, which she denies, and Manny accuses Spinner of being on the rebound, which he denies. Manny even flirts with the "new guy" Chester, possibly to try to prove to herself that she doesn't need Spinner. But, after Spinner cuts out of work, risking being fired, to be by her side at the school dance she organized, Manny eventually realizes why she had been resisting Spinner's attempts to make it official.
After all she's been through, as much as Manny wants to be with Spinner, she also doesn't want to have her heart broken once again. Spinner promises that he'll never break her heart, and they kiss.

4.14 Secret Part 1

Craig's prejudices about illness; Emma connects with Jay.
Emma discovers the dark secret of what goes on in the van down in the ravine. At the beginning of the episode, Emma's parents, Spike and Snake (Mr. Simpson) wonder if Emma is okay. Ever since the school shooting, Emma hasn't been herself. The problem is, nobody, including Emma, really knows why. And when Emma discovers what it takes to earn a bracelet like Amy has -- oral sex -- she is both shocked and intrigued. For some reason, she decides to go to the ravine, and get into the van with Jay, to "earn" her bracelet. We, like Emma, are left to wonder why she would ever do such a thing.
And when her parents catch her sneaking into her bedroom in the middle of the night, she bursts into tears, telling them that she has been scared, that she can't sleep, ever since the shooting at school. But, after her parents leave and Emma looks, almost proudly, at the bracelet she's earned, the question is: Do you believe her?

4.15 Secret Part 2

Emma disrupts the school play; Jimmy breaks out of rehab facility.

Emma quickly discovers that there's more than one way to become afflicted with STDs such as gonorrhea. The day after visiting Jay in the van in the ravine, Emma finds out that oral sex isn't "safe" sex. When Jay's girlfriend Alex is diagnosed with gonorrhea, Emma quickly realizes that her sore throat might be a lot more than just a cold. And, predictably, the word about Emma's condition spreads through the school gossip channels, to the point that her Dracula co-star Nate refuses to kiss her during their performance, afraid he'll get the disease.
Emma blames Jay for giving her a "social disease," despite the fact that Emma freely chose to do what she did with Jay down in the ravine. Jay insists he didn't do anything wrong, and on some level she knows he's right. The virtue Jay sees in her is no longer something she can see in herself. When Jay tells Emma the "real" her wasn't the girl in the ravine, Emma's not so sure.
Finally, Emma decides to face up to the fact that she may have an STD, and tells her parents she needs to go to the clinic to get tested. When Snake realizes what she means by this, he can't look at her in the eyes. Perhaps he wonders where the "real" Emma has gone as well.

4.16 Eye of the Tiger

CTV: December 14

Jimmy returns to school in a wheel chair; Danny's jealous of JT and Liberty.

Jimmy has finally returned to Degrassi after staying in the hospital and the school is glad to have him back, all but one: Spinner. With guilt tearing at his soul, Spinner tries to make it up to Jimmy by helping him with everyday things from getting him water to getting the basketball coach to name the MVP trophy after him. While glad to be back, Jimmy is still dealing with his fate: being confined to a chair for life and knowing Spinner had something to do with setting Rick off doesn't help. Finally Spinner can't take it no more and confesses to Jimmy the reason why Rick came after him; Spinner and Jay made Rick think the paint and feathers incident was Jimmy's idea. Understandibly Jimmy is upset and severes ties with Spinner.

By the next day the whole school has learned the truth and Spinner must walk a mile in Rick's shoes, all his friends stay away, even his girlfriend Manny ignores him. Looking for an escape, Spinner comes across Jay and the two proceed to drink their problems away. Later Spinner crashes a party in Jimmy's honor and proceeds to nearly drive away drunk, until Jimmy and the others stop him. Jimmy lets Spinner know that he is dead to him. Now without friends, Spinner faces the music and confesses to Ms H. about his and Jay's involvement in the paint and feathers incident. Ms.H. is left with no choice and Spinner and Jay are expelled from Degrassi.

Meanwhile JT and Liberty's relationship continues, but its clear that someone named Danny is very jealous, feeling that JT is spending too much time with his sister. So when Liberty askes Danny to watch out for their father while she spends time with JT, Danny doesn't let Mr. Van Zant know and the couple is caught by none other than Liberty and Danny's father. Sending JT away and forbiding them to see each other causes a rift between brother and sister and even results in a fight between JT and Danny at school. However after everything is talked out amoung the Van Zants, JT and Liberty are back and sweeter than ever.

4.17 Queen of Hearts

Ok, I was on the-n.com (It's a shame I know) and I can't believe is crapola the-Mary from the-n said:

I know we're all bummed that it's the season finale of Degrassi, but a) tonight's episode is pretty major and will satisfy the legion Sean-starved masses with lots of serious Sean action, b) nothing lasts forever and c) you gotta admit this season kinda rocked and will probably make for some very satisfying re-run watching. Pardon, "encore" watching. Oh, and d) the next season will be so far off the chain, light waves from the season will not reach the chain until the next Olympics. It's scientific!

That was the most stupidest thing I have ever read and knowing we have to wait awhile for the "next season" just gets me even more pissed,(even though I'm watching the new episodes on SS)

hey guys i just wanted to say some stuff about the gvb rumors. some of you have been saying that you think it's somebody either from rfr or degrassi going to be on it. I don't think it i will be because they are upping the prize amount to 40,000 dollars. by doing that it wont be somebody famous because when jake and lauren were on they didn't get any prize money. the only reason the prize money would increase is because the contestants are regular joes that need the money.

... the big event that was being planned in the U.S. has gotten postponed... don't know for sure whether it will really happen eventually or not. I believe though that there may be some events timed to the release of the DVD on September 28th, and if I find out anything about that I'll let you know!!

The big event isn't going to happen. If Alex is Craig's "long lost brother" that would just be ridiculous and I would be pissed at the writers. He's probably an uncle or cousin that Craig hasn't seen in a while.

I just found this and thought it was cool. It's a sports article and they made a reference to Degrassi in it.

Chargers over Browns: Marty Schottenheimer returns to Cleveland with loaded team, seeking revenge like Rick on "Degrassi: The Next Generation." Only Jets have covered spread vs. San Diego.
