Dead Like Me Spoilers & Speculations

Dead Like Me looks delightfully Dark

I've been looking forward to this series ever since I caught the promo.

The Shotime channel has ordered 13 episodes plus the two-hour pilot of Dead Like Me.

From the shotime site:
Dead Like Me:
From creator Bryan Fuller ("Star Trek: Voyager," "Carrie") comes this comically offbeat original series about Georgia "George" Lass (Ellen Muth), a disaffected teenager who's surprised discover that an afterlife really exists after she's struck and killed by a piece of the MIR space station that hurtles to Earth. There, she finds that she's been assigned to be a "reaper," delivering souls to their eternal reward under the watchful eye of her boss Rube (Mandy Patinkin). Rebecca Gayheart, Jasmine Guy, Callum Blue and Cynthia Stevenson costar

She discovers that the afterlife does indeed exist, where she has been assigned a job as a 'Reaper.' It's her job to reap the souls from the living and guide them to their eternal reward. Besides coping with her new job, she must learn to deal with being young and starting out - and of course, being dead. 'Dead Like Me' is set to air on Showtime in 2003.

the official mgm release on dead like me

Quote:
Series Preview:
DEAD LIKE ME PUTS THE LIFE IN AFTERLIFE
New Showtime Series Stars Mandy Patinkin, Ellen Muth, Rebecca Gayheart, Jasmine Guy, Callum Blue and Cynthia Stevenson
By Paul Gendreau

Death really becomes her in Dead Like Me, the new MGM Television weekly one-hour series for Showtime, which recently began production in Vancouver, British Columbia. Marking the return of Chicago Hope's Mandy Patinkin to series television, this quirky and darkly comedic look at life, death, and life after death promises to be one of the 2003-'04 television season's most highly anticipated new offerings.

The new series follows one Georgia Lass-played brilliantly by Ellen Muth ("The Truth About Jane," "Cora Unashamed")-a young woman facing adulthood with few marketable job skills and even less enthusiasm for what lies ahead. Her mother (Cynthia Stevenson, of Hope & Gloria, "Air Bud 2"), seemingly joyless in her own existence, pushes George (as she is called) to get a job-any job. On her first day of work as a file clerk, George meets her untimely death when struck by a runaway toilet seat from the MIR space station as it hurtles towards Earth at some 200 miles per hour, leaving only George's smoking shoe on the spot where the young woman stood.

The good news for George is that there is life after death. The bad news, however, is that her life after death includes another job assignment-this time as a Grim Reaper, one of those individuals whose task it is to snatch souls at the point of death and shepherd them along to their afterlife destinations. George joins the ranks of the other "undead" reapers, led by senior reaper Rube (Patinkin), a by-the-book type whose job it is to make sure George learns the ropes and starts producing. George's co-reapers include the characters of Betty (Gayheart, of Beverly Hills, 90210, "Scream 2"), a bubbly and oft-times bubbleheaded beauty; Mason (Blue, of "Devil's Gate," As If), a regular guy who attempts to help George in her transition; and Roxy (Guy, of A Different World), a no-nonsense reaper who moonlights as a meter maid to pick up extra cash.

While George is learning the ropes of her new job in the afterlife, she must adjust to all the anxieties and concerns of any young woman starting out on her own. However, in this case, she is one of the "undead." Ironically, George's death serves as a wake-up call, offering her a unique opportunity to rediscover love and laughter, and to gain a better understanding of life "after the fact" than when she lived it the first time around.

Showtime has not yet announced a premiere date for this series. But rest assured: readers of MGM's Sci-Fi Newsletter will be the first to know.

Found a blurb about Dead like me .. dated 2/10/3 stating that showtime will air Dead like me in HDTV.

The other info is pretty much what we already know:

Quote:
DEAD LIKE ME centers on a disaffected young woman who is suddenly killed when a piece of the MIR space station hurtles to Earth and hits her in the head. Georgia "George" Lass, played by exciting newcomer. Ellen Muth is surprised to discover that an afterlife does exist, and that she's already been assigned a job. Her new boss is Rube, played by Broadway and film star Mandy Patinkin. Also starring in the pilot are Callum Blue, Rebecca Gayheart, Jasmine Guy , with Cynthia Stevenson.

Thanks for the link .. and good site start.

You've got everything I'd been able to find so far as well.

I hadn't seen the filmjerk blurb about ep 6's afterlife sex. So that was fun.

Wonder when showtime will get around to putting it up on the official site.

I just caught the preview of this last week after QaF. It does look interesting. Hopefully I won't get all invested in it only to have it canceled, as has happened to me with several series this season.

The official site is up .. And yeah it so looks delightfuly dark .. the first page is a poll on who you think will bite the dust in the first ep.
http://www.sho.com/deadlikeme/

The intro goes something like this:

Hey People Die Every Day

For a grim reaper .. the question is

where, when and who?

shows a parking meter expire .. then says

Dead like me a new show about life after life.

then you get the blurb:

Grim Reapers get a bad rap. In fact, they don't actually kill anybody. It's the gravelings that do the dirty work. The reapers just collect the souls and take them to their final destination.

And on this day, they've got their work cut out for them. Someone with the initials B.M. is going to die at 2:36pm at a bank on Franklin St.

You can watch a little clip that shows all the folks who might be the one.

I put a couple of new pictures up on my site. I'm really looking forward to the show. The details I've heard about the first few episodes sound great.

I am really looking forward to this one, the commercials make it look pretty good. Dark comedies are always fun! What I hate is that Showtime has been advertising this freaking show "out of order" NON stop for almost 2 months now and I have only seen 2 commercials for "dead like me" and they were both on Saturday. Howdy MP .. I hear ya .. the Out of Order is getting annoying already. But it's nice to see ya getting spoiled for a show again. It's only a few short steps away from total spoilage. :evillaugh:

Thanks David .. I'll pop by and see em.

I've been enjoying the commercials for this series. I hope it's as good as it looks and I'll be tuning in to find out.
