“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns with a vengeance for the fourth exciting season in an all new time period, Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET. In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team were driven more than ever to put an end to the Hydra organization. Little did they know that they were up against the deadliest threat they’ve ever faced – an extremely powerful Inhuman, Hive, who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward. The team was able to thwart and kill Hive and take down Hydra, but they are all still mourning the death of fellow agent and Inhuman, Lincoln Campbell.
In light of the Sokovia Accords, and with Hydra obliterated, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been legitimatized again and no longer needs to operate in the shadows. Since the world presumes that Coulson is dead, the organization needed a new Director (Jason O’Mara) to be the face of the organization. Coulson finds himself back in the role as an agent and teamed with Mack (Henry Simmons), and together they are tasked with tracking down and confirming the presence of Enhanced people, aka Inhumans. They have been trying to track down and capture Daisy (Chloe Bennet), aka Quake, who has gone rogue in an attempt to atone for sins from the past. But with the world believing that Daisy is a dangerous outlaw who has taken down banks and bridges, the new Director has no qualms about taking her down for good. Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) is tasked with training specialist strike teams, and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) have taken a big step forward in their relationship. But with Simmons’ new promotion as Special Advisor to the Director in Science and Technology, Fitz, as well as her former team members, finds it hard to confide in or trust her since she’s now the Director’s confidant.
Robbie Reyes (Gabriel Luna) will roar into the lives of Agent Coulson and the team as a junkyard mechanic who can turn on a dime into the terrifying Ghost Rider. Will Robbie be a friend or foe to S.H.I.E.L.D. – as well as the world, itself? Meanwhile, Fitz discovers that socially awkward genius and friend Dr. Radcliffe (John Hannah) has started putting the finishing touches on a new, secret invention.

That’s certainly a tall order, but it sounds like TPTB at S.H.I.E.L.D. already have a plan to address that. “Sometimes it’s nice to move away from how mustache-twirly that is and get a lot more personal and gritty with it,” EP Jed Whedon says. In the meantime, Clark Gregg offered up some scoop on how Coulson is dealing in the wake of that big change: “He’s not the director anymore, his destiny is not so much in his own hand as it used to be,” Gregg says. “The person he cares about is on the run and seems to be very sought after by the authorities. It’s very much changing the game for Coulson. Certainly from that teaser of where we’ll be next season, he does not seem to be in good shape.” Source

It sounds like her new style may reflect how she’s feeling on the inside. “I think it makes her more ruthless being so close to what she thought was her own death,” Chloe Bennet says. “And then it happening in one of the worst scenarios she could ever think of, which is the person that she loved doing it for her, I think it changes her in a way where she probably will face life with even more ruthlessness. Also, there’s a sense of sadness that was there that I tried to make apparent at the end of the episode.” Source

This much I can tell you: LMDs are happening. Specifically, the ABC series at this time is looking to cast the recurring role of Aida, a “very attractive” robot (because after all, why make a homely one?) who moves about quite naturally but speaks a bit formally, like Iron Man’s Jarvis. Also to be introduced in Season 4: a pair of Latino brothers, one of whom is always the most dangerous person in the room, the other paralyzed in a wheelchair. Source

Though Daisy is basically in a self-imposed exile at the moment, I have to wonder whether the team will find out she was ready to crawl back to Hive given the chance. “The two people who know she did that are both dead, so no one else knows,” Chloe Bennet says. “There must be a moment coming up in the next season where she reveals that. We’re definitely going to be seeing some Daisy-Ghost Rider interaction, but that doesn’t mean they’re friends. “Not sure they like each other. Not very happy interactions,” Chloe Bennet tells me, quickly ruling out Robbie Reyes being a potential Daisy love interest — for now. “They have similar backgrounds. They’re both probably misunderstood, but none of that. She’s really hurting. She’s in a lot of pain. The only thing she wants is to have nothing to lose.” Source

Ausiello: Having finally landed on the same page in the May finale, “They’re going strong, in a solid relationship” when Season 4 opens, says co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen. Though conspicuously MIA after the season-ending, six-month time jump, “They did not have the opportunity to go to the Seychelles,” the EP notes, “but they’re working together, living together…. And of course with that comes some challenges.” Source

In short, it’s business as usual when the show returns. “The one thing that you’ll really see across the board with all of our characters is that they’re just in ‘Let’s move mode – let’s just move on from what went down,’” EP Maurissa Tancharoen tells me. “Whether or not that’s just a coping mechanism or denial of all of the trauma that they’ve experienced, I think them being so functional will start to unravel.” Source

It sounds like things may get off to a rocky start for FitzSimmons. “Fitz and Simmons are in a relationship now, so we’re going to play with that dynamic and what’s it like to work with the person that you’re in love with,” EP Jed Whedon says. But that will be made more complicated by Simmons becoming the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director’s (Jason O’Mara) No. 2. “This new director may come with new policy changes, new rules,” EP Maurissa Tancharoen says. “Simmons being someone who’s good at following the rules may cause some tension with the rest of our team.” Source
They were disavowed as agents and had to basically disappear in last week's episode. They got a really sweet and sad goodbye. But they are supposed to be in a new spinoff called Marvel's Most Wanted. The pilot was greenlit and filmed I believe. Now we just have to see if ABC picks it up to series.

I don't know why they did what they've done with Ward, but I think they specifically wanted a spinoff with Bobbi and Hunter so that's why they are gone. I'm really going to miss Hunter a lot, he was one of my faves. Bobbi was really cool too. I guess will potentially see them on their spinoff but I will miss them being with the AoS team.
