Based on the same-named hit movie from 1999 this half-hour series returns to Padua High, where newcomers Kat (Lindsey Shaw) and Bianca (Meaghan Jette Martin) Stratford attempt to navigate the popular crowd and the opposite sex while dealing with their overprotective dad (Larry Miller). Kat is a strong-willed, confident kid with an eye toward her post-high-school life, while the only concern Bianca seems to have is how popular she becomes. But smooth sailing it won't be for the pair, especially in the company of head cheerleader Chastity (Dana Davis), love-struck nerds like Cameron (Nicholas Braun) and the school's mysterious bad boy, Patrick (Ethan Peck).






EPISODE 1.05 - "DON'T GIVE UP "

Determined to become an active environmentalist, Kat enrolls in shop class to convert her gas-guzzling car into a biodiesel vehicle. As the only girl in the class, Kat realizes that she needs to do more than fix cars to break the stereotype that girls can do anything boys can do. Will she be able to show the guys up in class, including Patrick Verona? Meanwhile, Bianca becomes lab partners with Joey to raise his chemistry grade so he can play football. Her motivation to help him? Chastity promises Bianca the chance to take off her Penguin costume and give her a spot as a real cheerleader for Friday's game, if Joey plays. In order to help earn money for a shopping trip with Chastity, Bianca and her friend Dawn ask Cameron for help in setting up a new web reality show. It doesn't take long before the girls realize that, to get more viewers, they have to spice things up a bit. Just how far will Bianca go to make her webcast more popular? Meanwhile, when Kat feels the grading system in one of her classes is too lenient, she complains to the school administration about her teacher's generosity with grades. Luckily (or not) for Kat, the school counselor has a personal vendetta against this particular teacher. But in the end, the whole experience leads to some self-realizations that Kat didn't expect. In order to please her, Bianca must set out to find a private room in the school for Chastity. Just how much longer will Bianca put up with Chastity's spoiled personality? Meanwhile, Patrick tries to find an opportunity alone with Kat to confess his feelings, but he fears the panic from the brushfire might ruin his chances. As it turns out, Patrick and Kat do find a moment together on the school's rooftop. But with their temperamental relationship, will they make the most of that time? Meanwhile, Cameron overhears Beau talking about taking Bianca to a hotel after the dance, so he puts into action a plan that will help keep a watchful eye over her and thwart any advances by Beau. Tina in San Francisco: Have you seen 10 Things I Hate About You yet? I loved the movie, and I can't decide whether to be intrigued or irritated by the idea of a TV show.
Jen here: I don't want to speak for my compatriots, but the Valley girl in me must say this: OMG, you guys, it's so awesome. 10 Thing I Hate About You the TV show is hella funny (thanks to the likes of original movie castmember Larry Miller, who played/plays the dad), the show runner talks openly about being inspired by teen TV greats Buffy the Vampire Slayer and My So-Called Life, and Ethan Peck (who plays Patrick Verona, the Heath Ledger part) is at the beginning of a superstar arc that will knock us all back like we were hit with the blast wave of an asteroid hitting Earth. Watch this show so you can say you knew him when.
