You have to see it - I didn't bother for ages until Liz talked more about it and it's amazing - he is so good in it - it reminds me of his performance in River's Edge - he's kind of goofy but with an underlying serious side and keanu does such a great job in acting in it!

The daring bus rider single-handedly saved dozens of commuters when he jumped behind the wheel of an out-of-control bus in Yonkers after the driver suffered a fatal heart attack.

Najera, 34, told the Daily News he had no time to think when the driver slumped over the wheel and the bus jumped the curb and rumbled toward a pole Wednesday morning.

He had to act.

"I don't know why I did it or how I did it," said Najera, a father of three from Danbury, Conn. "I just tried my best."

The terrifying ride unfolded when bus driver John Toneske was stricken, sending the Westchester County Bee-Line bus hurtling off the road, sideswiping a utility pole.

Chaos quickly erupted inside the bus filled with about 30 commuters.

"In one second, the bus was all right and the next minute it was out of control," Najera said. "It was hitting things and moving all over."

"Everyone was shouting and screaming," he added. "They were saying, 'Someone stop the bus!'"

Najera usually sits in the back of the bus on his morning ride to work at Dentalogic Laboratories in Yonkers and did the same thing Wednesday.

But for some reason, he decided to move up to the front.

Everyone else froze when the bus rumbled off course. But Najera sprang into action.

"I just jump into the front to do something," he said. "I put my foot on the brake and grabbed the steering wheel."

The bus ground to a halt near Westerly St., a few feet from a large light pole and next to the busy New York State Thruway.

Paramedics took Toneske, 52, to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The unassuming Najera left the scene soon after the crash and walked to his job as a laboratory manager nearby.

But co-workers persuaded him to return, saying he should tell the police how he saved his fellow riders from death or serious injury.

"Obviously, he saved lives," Yonkers Police Officer Joseph Mahoney told the Journal News. "Who knows what the bus could have run into if he didn't stop it."

Even though Najera is small in stature, his boss of 15 years said he's not surprised he stood tall when the chips were down.

"He is the most gentle, compassionate guy you could ever imagine," said Joe Pipolo. "He is the tiniest guy, but because of his heart, I know he has it in him."

Najera was feted all day at his workplace.

When he told his wife about what happened, she wasn't too sure it was a good idea to risk his life by jumping to the front of the rolling bus.

"She was very scared, you know," he said.

But his 9-year-old son, Mases, gave him the biggest boost of all when he got home.

"My father is a hero," the boy crowed.
