Superherohype.com article on Constantine

Does contain spoilers.

Sound dark and interesting. Can't wait, this type of film is right up my alley. I think actors should try and do as many different types of movies as they can aqnd it sucks that they get type cast.

More Constatine news!

On the same page as the Keanu interview you can also find and interview with the director, Francis Lawrence ( here ) and new set pictures ( here ).

An article with parts of the Keanu interview posted above.

An article mostly about Djimon Hounsou who plays a character named Midnite.

An On Set With Constatine article.

And another Keanu Interview.

I think that's it! Enjoy!

Bad news... It seems that Alan Moore has washed his hand of the entire project.

You can read the entire article here.

Thank you Maja for posting the news!

Okay, the who wrote that last paragraph about not even renting it since it's with Neo can (did I make my feelings clear?:lol .

Seriously, he just makes it sound like the casting is the problem that made Moore step out when nothing points in that direction. For such a strong reaction by Moore you know there has to be a problem with the script, producers, storylines etc. Otherwise the minute Keanu was casted he would've resigned and he clearly didn't! I'm sorry, but I hate when the media takes cheap shoots like that.

Also, this worries me. Keanu comes from such a huge success and then critical acclaim (which is so weird) that now to hear this movie be called 'debacle' sucks

That sucks! He's backed out of movies by having his name removed from the credits in the past, though.

A fun John Constantine comparison picture:

Latest picture from the movie:

Clau ~ You've made a very good point there! Keanu's obviously not the reason Alan decided to leave the project.

**** that man! Theres no way Keanu was the problem. Everyone whos worked with him says hes very agreeable, quiet, respectable -- there would be no reason for Alan to quit just because of him.

Man, I like Aint It Cool News, theyve never been wrong before but with this...grrrrrr!!!!

And thats a fun comparison! Im so glad they didnt dye his hair blonde. How terrible would that have looked?

Oh! Heres a quote from: http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/journal.asp which is the journal of Neil Gaiman, a friend of Alan Moores:

Quote:
[bit of the AICN article]
Which is really interesting, except for it not being true. Oh, it's true that Alan's rejected the money for CONSTANTINE and assigned it to his cocreators, but he's now done that for all films of his and things he's done that might one day be filmed. This was because he was deeply hurt and offended and irritated by being accused in the Larry Cohen lawsuit [with link] of having written League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as some kind of studio shill, and because Alan never does anything by halves. Up until the lawsuit his position was that he didn't care about the films people made from his work, but was happy to cash the cheques; after, he decided that he didn't even want to cash the cheques. His share of Constantine was redistributed among his co-creators, John Totleben, Steve Bissette and Rick Veitch and to Jamie Delano and John Ridgway. As far as I know, from having spoken to him, Alan's view on Constantine itself is the same as his view on From Hell and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is that he'll probably rent the DVD one day, you never know, hell might freeze over, -- and that the important work is the comic -- the main difference being here that the film is, from what I understand, mostly based on the Garth Ennis and Jamie Delano issues of the Hellblazer comic. (And, for whatever remains of the record, Alan hasn't seen anything of Constantine -- no scripts, no nothing. Nor has he had any contact with DC on it except for asking Karen Berger to redistribute the money and the credit.)
Too bad the media is taking it the other way, neh?

Thanks for the article Amaria!! I wish the media would spread this information 'cause it explains a lot.

This article is taken from Comicon

Quote:
"Neil's got it right. Alan had decided to wash his hands of Hollywood because of the LOEG lawsuit. CONSTANTINE just happened to be the first project to fall in his lap after that.

I end up being the biggest beneficiery of his decision about passing his royalties to the co-creators. The history of the creator credits are a bit convaluted, but I'll try to explain it:

John and Steve originally came up with the idea of adding a character to SWAMP THING who looked like Sting and pitched it to Alan. He took that and created the trench-coated, Silk Cut smoking Constantine for ST #37, which I ended up drawing as a fill in. All I really added to Alan's incredibly detailed description was the ear ring (although if I'd made JC look like Elvis Costello the world might have been a different place, eh?).

When HELLBLAZER was launched, DC was just in the beginning stages of offering creator participation. At that time, Alan gave his percentage to Jaimie Delano and John Ridgeway and I stepped aside for Steve and John Totleben. Each of those guys got 5%.

Somehow, in some later deal (which Alan tells me he doesn't even remember happening), DC gave Alan another ten percent.

Alan has disbursed this 10% by passing 6% to me and 1% each to John T, Steve, Jaimie and John R. So we each end up with 6%. If there are creator credits I probably won't be on them (and from the look of the stills I've seen that's no great loss)." - Rick Veitch on Constantine Royalties.

And yes, Alan is an exrtaordinary individual!
I can't say I undestand everything, but what the hell...

It seems Constatine has been postponed.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros.' Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves, has been moved back from September 17 to February 11, 2005.
That sucks! We'll probably get it next summer...
