Sleep is an issue for me at the moment, no matter what I do, so I'm hoping that passes quickly.

Stop trying to sleep and focus on just relaxing your body and, if possible, your mind.

That's my trick anyway.

Sleep seems out of my control most days, so the only thing I can do is try to relax.

Breathe deep and think happy thoughts.

Well, the crux of it is that, even if sleep never comes, there has at least been relaxation.

I can't control whether I sleep or not, but I can control my breathing.

I can control my muscles.

Ideally, I get back to sleep, but that's out of my control.

That's how I fell asleep last night, and for nap time yesterday.

It doesn't always work in terms of getting me to sleep.

But that's why it's important.

You can't ever guarantee sleep.

But I can make myself relax, and that's always better than nothing.

Yeah. I get that.

My meds put me to sleep, but don't keep me asleep.

And then I'm wide awake.

It's cause I get out of bed.

That's another thing you can't control.

If you can only sleep while your meds are having their effect, then that will make for a short night.

You have to find ways around that, or to complement that short night.

Which, of course, you already know.

Well, I've had a week of mostly sleep.

I did good at going back to bed, when I did get up.

Didn't work this morning, but I went to bed at 8:30pm so that's why.

I feel good, and awake. I'll probably go back to sleep for a while.

Your advice has helped a lot.

Well, I'm glad it helped.

But I was mostly sharing what works for me.

You can never know what will work for others.

I do find that, the harder you try to sleep, the less likely it's likely to happen.
