Project Third Watch Renaissance # 41 ~ Week Forty ~ Walking Wounded
Once upon a time, we had decided to start a weekly 'Third Watch Renaissance' re-watch program here for the Third Watch board. Some/most of us have the s1 and s2 dvds.
So ... The plan was to watch an episode every week and post about it here. The goal was for it to 'feel like' we were watching live like in the old days. Some of us agreed (if we could) to watch live together on a set night. We aimed for Mondays 7:00 eastern, 6:00 central, 5:00 mountain __________________

I'm not even sure how I came across this one, to be honest. To me, it's normal that the government pays for medical care and disability benefits. What would be the point of having a central body in charge of society at large if it ignored people who have had some hard knocks in life? We're all in this together. __________________

It doesn't feel like we are here.
It would be nice if it were more unified. In my opinion any way. Great find on the pig. I love piggies. Thank you so much for starting this thread. I couldn't remember what to put in the first post-if we changed the week and titles of the episode. I really appreciate it. __________________

And here I was thinking that you hadn't started the thread because you'd taken to heart what I said about there being zero rush to do it.
And about how we need to let them go to 300 before we start a new one. Shows what I know, huh? Anyway, I think we could all be more united. There are plenty of Canadians who think that, since economic times are tough, we should basically take care of our own and let the rest of the country handle themselves. Fortunately, that type of thinking hasn't carried through the day on legislation yet but, who knows, maybe one day things will change. __________________

I'd have probably thought the same thing, Sunny.
I agree-we all could use being more united. I'm just dying over all the politics here right now. I hope legislation does what is best for your country. It's hard when they don't. __________________

The good news is that you don't need to hope for legislation to do anything for us.
What I was trying to say is that, especially with our current prime minister, legislation is there to protect our unity. The only we have to "fear," which is saying much, is how you guys act. Because what happens in the U.S. always has a lot of impact on the democratic world. But the thing is, your president has little impact on what happens. It's all about Congress and the Supreme Court. And those are always dominated by the Republican Party anyway. It doesn't matter who the president is. __________________

Oh! I wasn't sure.
That's a great thing for you all. Oh, you know what, I'd totally forgotten they were really the ruling force. Senate and Congress. And you're right, they are generally all Republican. I remember you saying before that a lot of what they do has to do with what happens there. __________________

The President can submit a law and he can veto a law.
But veto power is rarely used. And, even when the President pushes real hard for a law, Congress (and the Senate) still has to vote that law in. Sometimes, Congress even changes the law before passing it, so that was is passed has nothing to do with what was the original idea. Case and point: Obamacare. The idea was simple: everyone gets insurance. You and I both know that's not quite what was passed. Something was passed, but it was watered down. __________________

Yeah, I get that now.
Obamacare was definitely watered down. It was pushed hard, and it was not the original idea that ended up passing. All of what you said reminds me of things I knew, from school, but hadn't been dealing with in years. Thanks for reminding me. I definitely like being reminded of things I used to know. __________________

Well, I'm just glad that didn't come off as super snotty.
I was a bit afraid it would, you know? Like I need to tell you anything about your own country. At most, I could probably tell you about how it's perceived around the world. But, obviously, you're the one who lives there. __________________

I love hearing the world view from you.
It makes me see things I haven't seen before, or just wasn't aware of. There is probably a lot you could tell me that I don't know here. Nope, not snotty at all. __________________

I think the thing we realized there is that you do know it.
It just may not be at the front of your mind at all times. And, honestly, it'd be weird if you didn't have other things to think about, right? Like, I'm sure you know that if Donald Trump is elected president, it'll be a miracle of screwy math. Because he's not even getting the majority of the votes of the proportion of registered Republicans who are bothering to vote in these primaries. So, in terms of the whole population, the people who are actively voting for him represent quite a minority. Which means he'd be a bad candidate for the GOP come November. __________________

True, I do think about lots of other things.
The GOP party will nominate an Independent Party if Trump gets the nomination. At least that's what has come out on the news. A few NASCAR drivers, and the head guy of NASCAR came out and supported Trump at a rally, and that was totally against my view, so I got (and a lot of people got) really disappointed about that. I think I just don't want to hear about politics bleeding into something I enjoy. And it's not happened before. Needless to say, I wasn't happy to hear about some of the drivers after that. __________________

I think what you're saying is that the GOP is hoping to short-circuit a potential Trump nomination at the convention by going with someone else.
I've heard Paul Ryan mentioned a lot, which would be a bit of a nightmare for you all, but probably at least a little better than Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. I mean no offense to NASCAR or whomever else is expressing support for Trump, but it shows a lot of ignorance. The man is a pathological liar, not a truth-teller. He hasn't been even a little bit successful in business, he just inherited so much from his father that he literally couldn't fail if he tried. And, yet, he's still managed to file for bankruptcy three or four times. He's a bully, especially towards women. If people realized what the guy really stands for, I can't imagine any decent person would ever support him. I mean, he wouldn't even renounce the support of a former KKK leader. __________________

I so agree-and I also think they are beyond ignorant.
Just on the racist facts alone. Yeah, he's definitely a bully, and truly, I can't see how anyone is supporting him. It shows me there are a lot of racist, ignorant people out there. __________________
