Project Third Watch Renaissance # 40 ~ Week Forty ~ Walking Wounded

Once upon a time, we had decided to start a weekly 'Third Watch Renaissance' re-watch program here for the Third Watch board. Some/most of us have the s1 and s2 dvds.

So ... The plan was to watch an episode every week and post about it here. The goal was for it to 'feel like' we were watching live like in the old days. Some of us agreed (if we could) to watch live together on a set night.

We aimed for Mondays 7:00 eastern, 6:00 central, 5:00 mountain

Totally agree Sunny.

And, with my mental health starting to get better, and my physical health, I'm starting to chill out a lot more with myself.

It's gonna take practice, but it's definitely an improvement.

One step at a time, right?

All we can do is enjoy every good moment and keep building more.

Another thing to keep in mind, too, is that there has to be periods where we're putting what we learn into practice.

Like, when things get hard, it's because we've gotten better at handling stuff, so life just gets harder so that we keep learning and growing.

The point isn't to beat us down, but that we learn all the time.

We all get periods where things are good, but that's not the goal in life.

Basically, when it stops being hard (at least, in some respects; it's not supposed to be all hard, all the time), that's because you're dead.

So, I'm trying to learn to be grateful for when I'm having a hard time Because I know I'm learning something.

That's a really awesome outlook.

And so truthful and to the point.

I think I have a hard time when it's hard all the way across the board-physically, mentally. life stuff, and stress. That's when I get overwhelmed.

I'm learning though-and learning to just focus on what I'm doing and dealing with in the moment.

I'm going to see what I can do about gratitude for each moment. Whether it's hard or easy.

Sometimes, all I can manage is to be grateful for the knowledge that the awful bits will end.

That they're all passing through.

It's not easy to be grateful for pain or for stress or for being annoyed or angry.

But you can be grateful for the awareness that things always get better.

Somehow.

Even if you can't always see how that will happen or how it can be.

That's so true, Sunny.

I can't be grateful for all the rough, hard to deal with things in that moment.

But knowing it will pass, I can be grateful for.

Sometimes, though, you can express gratitiude without actually meaning.

Like, you can be sarcastic.

That's okay, too.

Sometimes it just takes a while for the emotions to catch up to what your mind knows.

Like, stress and pain can be learning experiences.

So, even if you feel like you hate what's going on, you can be grateful for it, in words.

Sometimes that's how I manage to get to actual gratitude.

I do that too, Sunny. Writing it down, and letting the meaning behind it come along later.

It seems so contradictory to do, be grateful for everything/anything you don't like.

And yep, sometimes it is sarcastic.

It certainly takes a certain leap of faith.

To trust that whatever sucks right now will turn out to have been for a reason.

That the outcome will be worth it, eventually.

I must say, though, that it makes it easier to get through sucky things when they do happen.

Yeah, it really does make it a little easier to get through the tough times when you have faith that it's for a reason.

Though it's not always comforting when you're overwhelmed with stuff.

Knowing the outcome will be worth it is a huge relief.

It's a two-prongued system.

Preferably, you can remember how past hard times have made you a stronger and better person.

You remember that you're always learning and improving and that difficult experiences are how that happens.

But, if things are too much and you can't remember that, then you focus on remembering that all bad experiences eventually end.

So the principal thing is to get through them.

Because they all, eventually, stop. Every last one of them.

I'm going to write that down on a large index card, and read it as often as I need it.

Thank you so much Sunny.
