Oh I haven't been, though I don't think it would be a long trip to get there from where I live. California would be nice. But my hotspot vacation place to go to would probably be Hawaii!

There are so many places I want to go to...

It's been ages Niknak. I don't remember seeing you here often. But perhaps it was when I was away from FF.

Just finished watching The Chopping Block. I enjoy that show.

Nik, seriously glad you're here with us, even temporarily.

Jayness.... guess I am not sure what Chopping Block is about.

It's wonderful to be here, even if temporary. I wish I had more time to visit here more often on a regular basis, but there are just not enough hours in a day sometimes. But I am going to enjoy my time here as a temp-mod. I miss ya'll very much.

A few weeks back, Sis, hubby and I all went kayaking on the Illinios River ... 12 miles. Here's our journey with my new digital waterproof camera. (some of the images look foggy because the water temp was so much cooler than the air temp is fogged up the lens)

Sis preparing to embark on the 12mile trip.

Hubby and I ready to head out!

Sis enjoying the river.

Hubby and I on the river.

Sis and I on the river.

Triumphant me!

Way to go, I think. But I didn't enjoy Twilight near as much as New Moon or Eclipse.

Nikki So good to have you back with us

Sis Love the kayaking photos you posted It was a good time.

Citizen’s Fire Academy

Week Five – Bomb Squad

In our area, the bomb squad is housed out of the fire department. Not all the firemen are on the bomb squad, just four total. However, they all get called even if they are not on shift, if a true bomb emergency comes up.

During this night’s class, we actually learned about various types of bombs, touched some C4, suited up in the bomb squad suit, and even played with GRACI the bomb robot.

Not everyone wanted to try on the bomb squad suit because it was a little claustrophobic and the total thing weighed over 100 1bs, but I did try it on!

It took two firemen to get the suit on me…. It’s a time consuming process piecing each bit on and together.

This helmet alone weighed 38lbs!

And here I am all suited up! The fireman was encouraging me and directing me to walk forward, look at him, etc. I wandered around a bit, then he dropped a knife on the floor, and I bent down and picked it up. Let me tell you, it’s hard to do in that suit. I couldn’t get back up The one fireman had to hold my arm and the other lift on the back of the suit.

We also learned about the bomb squad’s robot Graci. She was bought by a grant just last year. The fire department held a contest at the area schools to let the kids name the robot. The winner picked Graci because the girl thought #1) it had to be a girl because it was so important and 2) it was amazing like Amazing Grace. Too cute

This is Graci.

Before we were allowed to operate Graci, we got a crash course on the robot:

And then we were allowed to operate this expensive bit of machinery with some guidance form the bomb squad technician/fireman. Here I am maneuvering Graci.

Karine Bon voyage! Tu m'en donneras des nouvelles a ton retour! Du livre et de la Californie!

Yeah, sorry to the rest of you all, but you can't wish someone you know godspeed in a language that's technically foreign to the both of you.

Anyway, that's a lot of pictures, Car and Kar!!!

Welcome back, Nak! (Yeah, that's just gonna stick. Go figure.)

Bubble-Head What is the world is The Chopping Block?

And, has anyone seen Nori? It feels like it's been forever!

I am reading New Moon right now. It's a bit slow but I still love it. I cannot wait for the movie.

The Chopping Block is a chef show. Marco Pierre White a renown UK chef came to the US to do this show as a rival for Hell's kitchen. Pairs of friends/family vy for a chance to open their own restaurant. He's got a great accent. Isn't nearly as mean and definitely doesn't have the potty mouth that Gordon Ramsay does. Still I found it entertaining. And the pair of sisters I loved WON! They were so nice.

I mean it probably isn't AS entertaining as Hell's Kitchen, but still I loved it. Gordon Ramsay actually studied under MPW, though they had a falling out. It's kind of sad if you think about how people fall out after having such a long relationship of teacher and protege.

He's quite good though. I looked back at how he used to cook (he's 'retired' as a chef now) and it was amazing. And he was kind of hot when he was younger if you go for the roguish look with straggly long curly hair.

Again it all comes down to me needing a man it seems as I read what I just wrote.

Anyways....Kar again why do you get to do all this cool stuff? Is it for work or something? Or is it just some form of entertainment?

nori Isn't she off somewhere? Not sure? She's gone missing! Aahhhhhh!

OOh and fun picks of kayaking kar and car. I need to live where you live. And do what you two do!

Nak New Moon is really not my favourite. But good luck.

Bubble-Head Nice than Gordon Ramsay, huh? That's a stretch...

Mind you, I'm speaking out of my hat. I have never seen Hell's Kitchen. I just can't stand watching grown people be humiliated for entertainment, you know?

Thanks. New Moon isn't my favorite so far either. But I don't think that I can pick a favorite until I read all four.
