I can't do it. I can't bring myself to read the Twilight series. Everyone raves about it. But I just am so against it. And I have no idea why.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that the writing does sometimes feel teenager-esque. Or the fact that it has to do with vampires and werewolves.

I've never read any book where I've enjoyed the storyline with the main characters are vampires or werewolves. Don't know why.

nori: Yeah. We have a fitness program through work. It's non-contract. We could go there for as much as $20 or $40 biweekly.

But I don't know that I would use it enough. Gah. I'm so horrible.

Kar Don't judge Breaking Dawn until you read it! I think I read it in a day! There was a ton of controversy over it and some of Stephenie's ideas for it, but I just enjoyed it for 'my' story! I loved Eclipse the most followed closely by Twilight/BreakingDawn and then New Moon. I mean I love all the Jacob/Bella interaction, and what it sets up, but now it is the book I've read the least.

I bought and put all the books onto my iPod on Saturday night and I listened to Twilight all the way to Edmonton yesterday, it was really a great way to pass 5 hours driving on the highway, especially when the traffic was heavy the last 77km into Edmonton.

Jayness try them! You will love them! Seriously, I'm not a 'fantasy' reader and these are really just a sweet little love story, you really do forget that one character is a vampire and the other is a werewolf. My best friend who I went to Dominican with at Easter was dead set against reading them, but I took Twilight (my paperback copy, so my hard cover didn't get wrecked) and she read it so fast and was so impressed with it that she's now read them all. It is just a sweet little love story, also keep in mind that it is meant for the teenagers, so you do have to wade around a little cheese, especially in the first one.

Shnicky not sure I understand... but you're here and posting now and thats the most important thing!

So the drive down as I said earlier was uneventful. My dog travels really well, and he was very excited to see his dog cousin Max (a greyhound/black lab cross... gorgeous and huge to Marshall's Bichonness). Left home before 8 and got here around 1ish. Had lunch with my bro and his girlfriend then she left to go camping with friends so bro and I went to his place, then to my teacher stores (only $100 blown there) made supper then he went up to watch his shows and I stayed downstairs to watch mine (Merlin). Today the plan is to go to Fort Edmonton Park, and I want to do some shopping by myself (so I may go to West Edmonton Mall, or I may just stay around bro's place... WEM gets crazy in the summer, and I usually do my buying around here anyway.

Tomorrow I think we are going out to Camrose (bro's girlfriend lives out there) and I'm going to wear my Storm T-Shirt (Camrose Kodiak's are one of our rival teams) Bro is laughing thinking I want to be beaten up! I'm not scared! Have to go to visit my dad's parents, then home on Wednesday. Short but busy trip!

Ok, this is nothing short of a chapter book, so I'll for now and come back later!

Hey Jayness, you have every right to like/dislike any book. But I wouldn't judge until you've read. They are a bit immature, but I went in knowing it was a book written for young readers, so it's all fine. I think as long as I know what to expect, the genre and the audience, it helps.

to Norla. Oh I'm reading Breaking Dawn. But right now it's really pissing me off. And I'm only at .... the second or third chapter maybe?

to Gay. Glad to see you here again!

Well I'm not saying I dislike them. But I dont know why they feel so uncompellnig to read. I know a lo of people love them. I think part of it has to do with everyone raving about it. That is an instant turn off. I'm just built that way I tellz ya!

Actually I did flip through the book and I am just not compelled in anyway by their love story. I hate triangles. Always have. They are never usually done well enough. And I usually end up rooting for the one who will NEVER get the girl. Which I think when I read the ending of the book (yeah, I know I'm one of those kind of readers) I knew who she was going to end up with. I think I was flipping through the 3rd book? I think?

Anyways, one day. Maybe one day I'll actually read them. But it's the same with HP. I absolutely HATED the way the books were written. I got through the first 2 books and dropped the 3rd about 1/4 of the way through because it didn't hold my attention at all. What can I say? I'm just kind of weird.

Oh, I hate New Moon with the passion of a thousand suns. Neither guy is good enough for her in that one. I mean, I'm sorry, but she's plenty old enough to make her own darn mind about what she wants in life, so the boys need to quit it with trying to "manipulate" (I use for a lack of a better word and because I'm ranting here!) her into doing what they want.

And, Bubble-Head you so would ship her with the wrong guy. Jacob, in case you're wondering. Jacob, who doesn't mind hurting her feelings and pissing her off because she always forgives him. As if that's good enough.

And I like Jacob. That's the stupid part. I like him, so long as he behaves like a friend and forgets his stupid ideas about how to get girls to like him.

Anyway, Bubble-Head, the think about the Twilight books --- and I've read all 4 of them four times inside of a year, so you can trust me on this one --- is that they're addictive. The vampire/werewolf stuff? It's no more present than aliens were in Roswell or vampires in Buffy. What I mean is that it informs the universe you're in, but the books are more about that first time you fall in love and you're all "holy cow, he touched my elbow! ::swoon::"

Of course, you are under no obligation to read them. I stuck it out for three years before I bought the first one. And, even then, I only bought it because I heard they were making a movie and I really hate books with movie covers, and it was ten bucks. I figured I'd read it some years down the line.

Which is what happened with Harry Potter, for me anyway.

Only thing is that I forgot to bring a book with me when I went to buy it, so I had nothing else to read on the way home. I finished Twilight in two days (during which I was working full-time), bought the next three on the third, read those over the next four days. And I was addicted.

Now, I turned my mum and three friends onto them.

Kar Yeah, don't judge Breaking Dawn.

Or, I don't know... Maybe I liked it so much because I was expecting so much worse? Either way, I like it better every time I read it again.

But Eclipse is still my favourite. If for no other reason than that scene when Edward comes back from hunting, expecting to find Bella all pissed and stuff, and they have fun with the bed.

My mom even read all the books and she was dead set against it. Vampires... too much blood.... don't exist... Werewolves...too freaky... don't exist... With some convincing, she immediately fell in love with Bella and Edward.

As Sunny says, and I think I may have too, you really do not even think about them as supernatural beings, they are Edward, Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie, Carlile, Esmé, Jacob et al.

To be fair, the first time I read the books and I have read them about 6 times each (New Moon about 3 times) I did not really get into them until the chapter Port Angeles. Then at about the Restaurant scene... hooked, lined and sunk!

I also agree with Kar that people have every right to not appreciate them or like them, but should be attempted at least. Not that you are judging them Jayness and Alexa aka tour buddy, but it is like when Harry first came out and the people who were supremely Anti-Harry were the people who did not read the book first. I know people who read the first few chapters and decided it was not for them... fair enough (although I have always lived by the 100 page rule... read 100 pages and then you can determine if the book is for you or not)

Regardless, I love the Twilight books and I recommend them to anyone!

Also to my other Twilighters, have any of you read Midnight Sun over at the Stephenie Meyers site

Okay let me clarify, that I did read a few chapters into the series. But I think my problem is that really really got this intense dislike for Bella the moment I read about her or her thoughts or whatever.

I think I'm against love stories. That must be it. I'm a embittered old maid who doesn't think anyone should fall in love. Yeaaaaaah, let's go with that. You have to understand thatI pretty much grew up more or less a tomboy in regards to movies. I was a scifi/fantasy chick So really the fact that it's a love story isn't compelling. I hate when stories are completely about love stories. I hate cliche romances. And I get the feeling that Edward/Bella are just that. But again, I think I will probably get around to going to the library or maybe McNally Robinsons to sit and maybe take a read. Just so I'm not making any assumptions. But the problem is everyone that *I* know of (not including you girls) that recommends these books to me are horribly insanely complete romantics. They like going to the cheesy romance movie that makes me roll my eyes and want to gouge my eyes out. I swear sometimes I am not a girl.

But I do have my moments. Like I love Anne of Green Gables with a passion. Gone with the Wind. Both great books and movies. And I and I can take each seperately on their own. So those are girly, right?

But movies like, 'Love Actually' or almost ANY Sandra Bullock RomCom I can live without.

Now thinking about it, I think I'm a masochist. I love angst and tragedy. I really couldn't tell you what makes me fall in love with a character or a couple. But for the most part I am usually partial to couplings that the TPTB never put together. Look at TW! OMGosh the number of couples that never were...... Bobby/Kim, Bosco/Faith... good segue eh?

Hey, question, I think it was you Kar but I know someone on here has published or has attempted to publish their own stories. Am I right?

The reason I ask is cause I just finished the prologue to my own original fiction. I have no idea where it's going to go, but I would love to discuss the whole journey of it with someone who is in the midst or has tried to do it.

Anyways this is me

Bane: Don't worry I am never pressured into doing something I don't want. So if I happen to try the series, it will be because I want to. Or because I need some vacation reading. It really actually doesn't have a LOT to do with the supernatural stuff, I mean I'm a scifi/fantasy person so have no problems suspending belief as far as the next person. I really have no clue why I just never read stories that involve them. Perhaps it's because the story can only go one of two ways really. Nothing new can happen. Either you die, you turn into a vamp or you kill the vamp. Really only 3 options. Really kind of limiting.

I have yet to finish the Eragon series. The 3rd book came out and I've seen it on the shelves, but I have yet to get to the library....

Car - Kittens are so freaking cute. But then they grow up to be cats. Bleh.

Nori - I have read Midnight Sun. I wasn't gonna when it leaked, because I thought it was a violation of Stephenie Meyer's copyrights. But then she threw her fit and, I thought, "You know, what? You're on!"

And I read it. Have you?

Bubble-Head - Seriously, it's all good. I never liked sci-fi stuff, so my Twilight addiction probably means it's not huge on the sci-fi end of it and is probably a bit more in "chick lit" territory.

Personally, Emmett is my favourite.

Jayness to my "embittered old maid" friend Fair!

Sunny I did! I really enjoyed it after you get past the roughness of it. Very very interesting to hear Edwards POV! I'm sure that eventually it too will be published. Not that she didn't have a reason to be upset, but I'm sure the $$$ will win out and we will get our story! I Emmett too, but of all of them Jasper is my vampire!

Kar Hmmmmm Should I change my sig? My two favourite quotes are "Stupid, shiny, Volvo owner" and "Penguins, lovely"

Car Cutest kitties!

Well off to bed I have my trip home tomorrow, hopefully it won't take 5 hours to get home like it did here... I have to plan my times better!

Pics from Floating/Kayaking Trip Down Illinois River

My sister and I and several of my friends took a 12 mile trip down the Illinois River a few weeks ago. It was the weekend before July 4th, and the river was CROWDED but we had a blast!

My friend Mistii, Kathy, me, and Sherry posing before the trip.

Sis and I joined a raft with two other girls, while most of the other gang kayaked.

Here I am in the raft:

It was so hot, we’d have to take breaks and dip in the water:

Sis in the raft. It got so hot later that she had to don a t-shirt and hat.

All of us girls in the raft:
