Criminal Minds Thread 10 ~ They Are the Sentinels

Yeah, Derek, to me, would mostly be worried about staying alive for his child, since his dad died when he was so young.

I think it's great that he wants a better world for his child.

How amazing is it that they had him and Spence talking, and working through things, and then Derek playing cards with Rossi and his friends. I love that.

I hope she's not dead.

Or that they don't have her pregnant enough that he ends up being a single father.

Derek has been through enough, and has enough issues about losing people he loves. And he just got out of a hospital 6 months earlier.

I hope it's not any of those. Wishful thinking probably.

Thank you for telling me about the episode.

I love hearing the team stuff, cause I can just picture, and hear it.
Well, the show doesn't do personal lives, so I can see why they skipped over the six-month recovery.

Previews lie, so who knows, maybe Derek's the one who got shot.

I have no idea.

All I know is that they've just had a "Derek in jeopardy" storyline, so I can't imagine they'd do another one right away.

Also, they don't do personal lives, so maybe this is an easy way of getting rid of Derek's personal life.

Like they got rid of Hotch's when they killed Haylie.

I have no idea.

And the scene with Spencer was really sweet.

I'm glad you can picture it, but I think you would have enjoyed seeing it a whole lot more.

Oh no.

Derek has suffered enough for a while.

That may push him over the edge.

Unless they give him a child, that she's far enough along, that they can save the baby.

I can't see them getting him again.

I probably would have enjoyed seeing it. I just can't take the imagery of the show any more.

It's starting to stay with me.

I hate missing out on things like that, you are right.

Thank you for the new thread!

Edited to say Mathew Gray Gubler is directing, so it's bound to be tragic. Usually his are terrifying, tragic, or both.

Well, you probably saw the article on TVLine where the actress who plays Garcia promised lots of tears.

So I guess I'll see what she means when I watch the episode.

No, I didn't see that.

I just went by all their posts on Twitter.

I saw she was doing lots of shows, promoting CM-talk shows that is.

Well, again, promos lies but what they're airing in Canada is Derek rushing his wife to the hospital and then going off the deep end in a quest for revenge.

All of which ends with him on his knees with a gun to his head, on the phone with someone, telling them this is the way it was always going to end for him.

And then a shot rings out.

CM has never killed off a main character, so I can't imagine they'd start now.

On the other end, maybe this is what Shemar Moore wanted?

No idea.

Shemar left the show. He came back to finish this episode. He'd been gone from filming a month already, and it never leaked out.

It's amazing it didn't.

I fast forwarded a lot of it, watching.

Then I watched again online.

It was tense, but it was like...contrived? Like they were manipulating us, and they were.

It was just enjoyable-and the team stuff rocked.

The woman who plays Garcia helped write the episode.

I can't remember how to do spoiler tags-is it s, or spoiler, that goes between the []?

For spoilers, you put sp between the [], but when an episode has aired, the general rules have it that it's no longer a spoiler.

Anyway, Derek's wife was the one who was killed and they didn't kill Derek off either.

After that, Shemar's the one who chose to leave, so good for him.

It'll be strange without him, for sure, but at least I still have my Hotch and Rossi.

Did you know that Matthew was directing this episode, too?

It wasn't just that Kirsten Vangsness co-wrote the episode; Matthew also directed it.

So that's neat, right?

Shemar Moore gave a goodbye interview to TVLine in which... well, let's just say there's no issue with that man's ego.

He said now he has to decide what to do next, will he do a Bourne Identity-like franchise like Matt Damon or more of Pursuit of Happyness type of movie like Will Smith?

Yeah, I realized they weren't spoilers when I was going to sleep last night.

They didn't kill Derek's wife.

She and the baby were fine-it truly was so happy.

I loved it.

It's just the goodbyes that really got me-they were so touching-I imagine because Shemar really was leaving.

Yeah, I knew he directed. That's why I figured it would end up tragic.

I don't remember how his have ended but I do know his episodes were really intense.

He definitely worked his muscles doing CM after a soap opera, but I'm so not sure where he goes from here.

Though apparently he is.

All things considered, it was a happy ending for Derek.

It was emotional, but that was always going to happen.

That's a good thing, even.

You wouldn't want people to greet the idea that Derek is leaving with a shrug and a "meh," right?

Anyway, I wish Shemar Moore a great continuation in his career.

I'm just not sure headlining blockbusters is in immediate future, you know?

I didn't care for the not happy emotions because it felt forced and manipulative to me.

Yeah, Derek definitely didn't have any mixed feelings.

And the show made sure he wouldn't.

I don't know about Shemar's future, I also, like you, wish him the best.

11 years is a long time.

And he was there all that time.

Not that others weren't, I think they just feel they have more stories to tell with their characters maybe?

Meanwhile, you probably saw on TV Line that they aren't renewed yet.

I imagine that they will be.

I think the sad emotions at Derek's leaving were probably more to do with the actors reacting to Shemar Moore's departure from the show.

I mean, that's usually the way that goes, right?

You're right, though, it was certainly manipulative.

Anyway, yeah, the show isn't renewed yet.

Not to be callous, but Shemar leaving probably also means they have a chunk of change liberated for the new season.

I have zero idea how much the actors on the show make, and I doubt any of them make as much as the cast of Friends of Seinfeld or even ER did back in the day.

But I still figure that, after 11 years, he probably was pulling in a fair amount, right?

So I'm guessing the fact that he's leaving will mean they'll have that much more back in the budget.

Oh it was obvious that's what it was.

About Shemar leaving. It was emotional for all of them.

They mostly focused on JJ, Spencer, and Garcia. They were all crying, and it was obvious it was about their loss of him leaving, and him reassuring them he was just a phone call away.

Yeah, you're right, about the budget.

And the room for another character.

If they're smart, they won't bring it a new character to replace Derek.

They really don't need anyone new.

If they can keep "Lewis" (aka the black woman) around, that would be perfect.

They have more men than women anyway, and I feel like Hotch, Rossi and Spencer are plenty, you know?

If the show comes back for a new season, I suppose they could have a new team member.

But if they keep doing that, the team will stop feeling like a family at some point, you know?

Well, I love her.

I just don't see her as a member of the team.

To me she doesn't feel like a family part of the team, more of an outsider, like Prentiss coming back.

For me, Prentiss was always part of the team.

Even when she was so completely the new girl, back when she first joined.

I guess I feel the same way about Lewis.

She's the new girl, but she is part of the team.

I mean, obviously, she doesn't have the same history as the rest, but it works enough for me.

And I'm glad you'll at least be catching the episode with Prentiss.

I know she's your favourite.
